The way the Seahawks are playing and the way Jeff Fisher always preps the Rams to play the Seahawks... Rams would have won. So it would have delayed it by another week, which I don't think Rams fans could have took another week of Jeff Fisher.

seems weird to fire him before black monday though doesnt it - i mean what do they really gain by getting rid of him now in season other than making their team even less organised...

I think Marvin Lewis has now taken sole possession of the title "Unfireable" Head Coach

i dont think he will ever be fired - he'd retire first with some sort of succession plan and even then he wont leave the organisation because hell just move into the front office officially and become the closest thing the bengals have to a gm

Here's Rotoworld's commentary on Fisher. I know the writers have never been a fan of his, but this commentary seems awfully relentless:

Rams fired coach Jeff Fisher.

In a cruel, ironic twist for the NFL's pre-eminent loser, the firing comes four days before he was set to pass Dan Reeves for the most coaching losses in league history. Fisher is so inept he can't even claim the record that's been his to lose for over a decade. The firing is perhaps the most justified of the modern era. Fisher has had five years to turn around a laughingstock franchise, and proceeded to make it an even bigger joke. Fisher's team had truly made zero progress on his first year in 2012. A wanton waster of draft picks and capital, Fisher is clueless on Sundays, mismanaging the clock and overseeing a cavalcade of idiotic penalties. Fisher doesn't make adjustments, aside from usually dialing up more personal fouls in the second half. Try as he may, he never came close to "cleaning up" his chronic, myriad, inexcusable mistakes. No coach, in any sport anywhere in the world, makes more excuses. Fisher has almost certainly coached his final NFL game.

That truly is relentless. Wow. I wonder what Fisher did to them.

seems weird to me considering he was often thought of as a media darling but i dont think it's incorrect - honest but brutal

1) prevents him from setting the record for losses as a Ram

2) lets possible replacements start thinking about the possibility

i suppose but considering they have the most inexperienced coordinator group ive come across in terms of their preparedness for the roles it seems like leadership suicide to get rid of fisher even if he isnt the answer...

but i guess theyve given up on their season anyway

Yeah, St Louis was content on just having a team. LA is another story, I imagine pressure is coming from everywhere.

i imagine the coordinator group will be completely changing - especially on the offensive side - theyve been a mess at developing talent and fisher's hires have always been inexperienced - theyve wasted so many draft picks its actually really sad

Jeff Fisher fired... and within hours rumors are running wild that Jim Harbaugh will leave Michigan and become the Head Coach of the LA Rams.

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/jim-harbaugh-leaving-michigan-for-the-rams-is-reportedly-a-very-real-possibility/

That'd be a great way to stick it to the Niners if that were to happen.

Yeah but I'd hate it for Jim to leave Michigan to try to clean up the huge mess Jeff Fisher made. Much rather see Harbaugh return to the NFL with a better team and then stick it to the 49ers. For a while, I was thinking Jim Caldwell would have got fired and Jim would have been perfect for the Lions, almost exactly the same situation he walked into with San Fran. I think Harbaugh should stay at Michigan and wait for the Chargers opening if he wants to return to California.

While I don't think he'd leave Michigan, I don't think the Chargers would be a more attractive landing spot than the Rams IMO.

So far the Browns head coach doesn't have a winning record yet. Maybe he could break Jeff Fisher record.

It'd be such a Browns thing to do if they fired Hue Jackson at the end of the season just so they could hire Fisher.

they're much more attractive, a great qb, a good rb, some decent lineman and a great receiver if he can go through a season without ending up on i/r, some solid corners and linebackers and an ok kicker

that's a pretty solid spine for a head coach to takeover

I wonder how long Rivers has before he retires. That's what I'm thinking of as well.

I know Rivers isn't Peyton or Brady, but look at Peyton and Brady. Quarterbacks are so coddled these days they don't have to retire until they're eligible for AARP.

San Diego would have to be an attractive opportunity.

the only thing that worries me about rivers is he's starting to throw more ints in anger - hopefully that's just a sign of his frustration at somehow always ending up behind in games and having a string of luck as bad as we have had the last 2 years

its not like eli who's arm looks like its fallen off a cliff

Yeah I've been noticing that. I think he's trying to make something out of nothing and usually costs him. It's unfortunate that he doesn't have Eli's luck.

it is funny how now brady and peyton's longevity is gonna be thought of as the norm rather than something special until the next generation like big ben, eli, rivers, brees, palmer etc dont last as long

romo is nearly gone already

palmer's footwork and movement looks shot even if his arm strength is still there, big ben is a little less consistent but that might be weapons rather than regression, eli is falling of a cliff, brees is also less consistent than he has been historically

Sorry Stan.... Jim has no interest in leaving Michigan.

Source very close to Jim Harbaugh just texted me: "Jim isn't leaving Michigan. He may never leave Michigan."

Just passing along.

Though on the bright side, Jon Gruden apparently would listen to a pitch from the Rams to be their new Head Coach.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah the only way I see Jim Harbaugh ever moving is if after they win a National Championship, he gets a call from a job too good to pass up. Maybe something along the lines of the Colts with a guy he really likes as GM or full control and work with Luck again. I didn't think he was going anywhere after coming so close to the playoffs though. The only person who ditches their team after coming so close to achieving the ultimate goal is Kevin Durant. I also think there is a good chance he does stay until he retires. Being coach in college isn't nearly as stressful as coaching in the NFL. Just ask David Shaw out of Stanford who gets calls almost yearly and still remains in the college ranks. Also this is kind of a dream job for Jim Harbaugh who grew up under Bo Schembechler and Michigan football.

And there's another little detail - $7 mil a year.

I don't think the money matters that much at this point. He would get paid wherever he went and I don't think an NFL team would have a problem ponying up the money to match his Michigan contract. But yeah, he is going to get paid at Michigan so I don't think money will lure him away either.

I reckon it would have to be significantly more in number terms to make Jim want to leave what he obviously enjoys doing at the moment. He is probably living the dream right now.

Yeah I don't think money is a factor in his decision making at this point

Some interesting news on the Jaguars Head Coaching position. While the Jaguars are content in waiting out the season to fire Gus Bradley, it seems they covet former Falcons Head Coach and now Buccaneers DC Mike Smith. Rotoworld has gone as far as saying Smith believes the job is his and is starting to reach out in order to put a staff together.

http://www.rotoworld.com/headlines/nfl/351126/report-mike-smith-could-replace-gus-bradley?ls=roto:TB:topheadlines

Weird how he hasn't interviewed yet, but he somehow thinks the job is his to lose and he's so confident that he's putting a staff together even before he gets an interview?

Why would Smith want to downgrade like that? The Bucs are building something special, but then again, this reminds me of Kubiak saying he wanted to stay here and build a foundation on offense. We know the rest of the story.
