Technically, reading the article it says Dan Quinn has announced to the Falcons coaches that he was going to be their next Head Coach. There hasn't been a formal announcement which can't be done until after the Super Bowl. Schefter says per the rules 49ers must wait until Friday to conduct their second interview(per the request of the Falcons).

Ah. So everything is set up, but Shanahan just has to wait until after the Super bowl to sign the contract.

Yeah. While you can interview coaches that are with teams still active in the playoffs you can't hire them until that team is completely done for the season (either losing in the playoffs or winning the Super Bowl). I'm not sure how the 49ers are getting away with this, unless they found some technicality.

I imagine it's one of those rules that relies on the other team taking it up with the league office. Iirc Steve Bisciotti technically broke some tampering rules a couple of years ago when he made some minor off-the-cuff comments after we traded Haloti, but the Lions didn't complain about it so nothing became of it.

Colts have requested permission to interview our assistant GM, Eric DeCosta. Rotoworld notes that he is close friends with Pagano and I could see Pagano trying to make a pitch to Eric to go to Indy. I wouldn't want to see it but I've always wondered how much longer Eric is willing to wait to on Ozzie to retire and if he would grow impatient and go elsewhere before Ozzie retired.

It'd be tempting for him, sure. But he's hung on this long, I'm sure he and Ozzie have an understanding.

That's a good point, plus didn't we give him a raise that essentially pays him like a General Manager a while back? Honestly, who wouldn't want to go be the GM of Indy where you already have a Franchise QB in place with Luck and all DeCosta has to do is what Grigson failed to do, build a team around him.

It might be even more than that. Maybe he already has a significant amount of control.

If Pagano does not make the playoffs and win at 1 game, his fired.   Just knowing that Pagano has defense expertise and letting his team go become on the worst defense in the league is not acceptable.

Eric will stay.  I'm sure of it.

Find yourself another candidate, Colts. We aren't your farm...

Speaking of farming teams, Ravens South aka the Texans need to hand us JJ Watt and get it over with. It is only just.

JJ Watt and DeAndre Hopkins for 6th and 7th Round picks. I mean their GM is dumb enough to give Osweiler $72M so we could fool him easily to thinking it's a great trade. :P

Interesting...on the Colts page on ESPN, there is no mention of DeCosta when discussing GM candidates:

http://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/ind/indianapolis-colts

Mike Wells ESPN Staff Writer

Here's the list of names that has been reported that the Colts have requested permission to interview or plan to interview for their general manager position: Colts vice president of football operations Jimmy Raye III, Green Bay director of football operations Eliot Wolf, Kansas City director of player personnel Chris Ballard, Seattle co-directors of pro personnel Scott Fitterer and Trent Kirchner and Minnesota assistant general manager George Paton.

The Colts announce six candidates will interview for the vacant GM job. Chris Ballard (KC) Scott Fitterer (SEA) Trent Kirchner (SEA) George Paton (MIN) Jimmy Raye III (IND) Eliot Wolf (GB)

DeCosta told them he's not interested?

The moment Ozzie retires (not saying that I WANT it to happen) is the moment DeCosta becomes our GM. Can't be convinced with anything else.

How about Jamie Sharper and Jermaine Lewis in the expansion draft?

I'm starting to think if Marvin Lewis keeps getting extensions, it's going to cut close on Grigson wasting away Luck the way he was before he was finally fired. With the Bengals wasting away the potential of Andy Dalton and wasting AJ Green's career by the time they fire Lewis and finally move on, it will be too late.

Quote

We’d like to agree to something at some point,” Lewis said, per the Cincinnati Enquirer. “It puts, I think, everybody’s mind at ease going forward for their futures. A lot of the people in the building, it makes it easier on them.”

He already wasted Carson Palmer's prime years. I think how awful they were before Marvin Lewis is what scaring them into keeping him. But they likely won't win a Super Bowl with him as the HC.

I don't know if they can even win a playoff game with him as head coach

Packers Associate Head Coach/Offense Tom Clements is leaving the Packers to pursue other opportunities. Mike McCarthy confirms this will be the only change to their coaching staff, so Dom Capers is staying.

Lord only knows why they keep Capers but they gonna be battling for DBs just like us.

Chiefs Director of Football Operations Chris Ballard is the favorite to become the Colts GM. It should be noted Ballard wants to replace Chuck Pagano as Head Coach.

It'd be nice if we can get him as our DB coach with the understanding that he'd be immediately upgraded to DC when Pees officially retires. Maybe even HC lol.

That be nice but I think we just filled all the vacancies on the coaching staff. Reports are conflicting though as one says Pagano will stay on at least for this year if Ballard is hired. Another report says if Ballard becomes the Colts GM, he wants to replace Pagano with Chiefs Special Teams Coach Dave Toub. After Harb's success here, I'm surprised it took this long for another ST coach to potentially become a Head Coach.

The 49ers have found  a General Manager.  According to Adam Schefter,  former NFL Safety John Lynch will become the 49ers new GM.

49ers are giving John Lynch an almost unprecedented six-year deal to become their GM, per sources.

Jed York strikes again. We'll see where this goes.

It's not just Lynch, but Kyle Shanahan is getting a 6 year deal as well. Tying them both together but man if they get fired after 2-3 years, Jed will still be paying them for another 3-4 years.
