[News] Dean Pees Sees Benefit In Moving From Booth To Sidelines

20 posts in this topic

From moving from the booth to sidelines does give us better communication and to make sure everything is on track. I like this move from Pees. Hopefully, we could continue that trend of what we saw vs the Bills as a defense.

Dean can the game like we do and I see tremendous pressure out the front five so a good rotation up front is all that is needed for now maybe blitz CJ but that's it and spread the Defense! Wright got 10 tackles that's good but don't play yourself got to spread out the remaining players to wreak havoc! WE THE BEST!

I wonder can Anthony Levine Sr. can play somewhere in the defense? Maybe in the slot or a LB in passing situations. I like the way he looks in the preseason and that he could be the guy that could give us a type of ballhawking plays in the secondary.

The Ravens decided to make a change this year by moving Pees to the sidelines, and he liked his new view in Sunday’s win over the Bills.

Wondering if this decision was solely made by Harbs.  If so, I commend him for it.

Probably more on Pees. This year is the first year that he has someone under him (Leslie Frazier) that he can trust to handle the booth upstairs. I've been saying all along that the Ravens needed a real DB coach and a real WR coach. You can see the difference Frazier has made already.

Now, can we please get an experienced WR coach. Former players rarely make good coaches until later in life. Did you see what happened to the Ed Reed's secondary last night? No offense to Engram but he's not quite experienced enough for me.

Whoever did it, thank you. It's something I've been after since Pees started saying last year that guys weren't playing hard enough... If they're not motivated, get down there claim your responsibility, and start coaching.

Bingo. There was an article about this a long time ago, when Pees first when to the booth to get the advantage of seeing the field really well. like you say it takes away from the on-filed (sidelines) presence and getting to talk to and look your players in the eye. I'm glad they hired Frazier. He seems to be making quite a difference, both with his experience towards the players and what he adds to the coaching staff on game days. Now that they seem to know what works best, make sure to keep to the formula Ravens Brass (FO).

Wright was impressive to say the least! If he keeps playing like that he makes a pro bowl!

Yeah, Pees did call a good game for a change. We were aggressive when we needed to be and he mixed things up a bit. Still don't trust him enough to keep it up.

November 6th, 2012:

"Pees said having such a young unit with players taking on some new positions, they aren’t able to tell him as accurately where a problem is occurring. That compares to when he had a savvy veteran such as linebacker Jarret Johnson last year.

'We weren’t as productive on the sideline as we could be in getting things fixed during the course of the game,' Pees said. 'Like in Kansas City, we got it fixed at the half. If we could have fixed it earlier, it would have saved us a lot more headaches.'"

And those 4 years between were the worst span our defense has ever experienced, people love to forget how bad our defense was that Super Bowl year (at least before the playoffs) why wasn't this realized earlier, if switching back and forth makes that big a difference? When are we going to admit that Dean Pees is the problem?

Mabe we can move Marc T to the broom closet ?

Why is every one down on Tresman? Considering His #1, #2 and #3 QBs, his #1 and #2 RBs, most of his WR's and his starting and #2 TE's were hurt plus a few linemen...I think he did a pretty good job. This year they are all back but spent very little time together in training camp cuz they had to rehab. Lets cut him a little slack.

I have been saying for a long time that he needed to be down on the field. You can't jump into anyone not doing there job or getting stupid penalties from the booth. Sometimes those guys need that.

13 points is not going to win very many games. Does Marc even have a winning season in the NFL?

This article is about Pees on the field so my comments will address that subject. Obviously Pees communicated better and his play calling reflected the improved communication. He got a better feel of what the players felt were their strengths and where they had an advantage. This makes so much common sense it is almost unbelievable that he didn't seek this information as a routine practice. After watching the Bills and the Jets I'm impressed with the shutdown job the defense did. Taylor, Watkins and McCoy are a pretty talented trio and left Baltimore with nothing talk about. Their only score was on a broken play thatn could easily have been a sack.
Watching a very talented Jets team makes me wonder how the heck Cincy beat them. I think the Jets would win the Cincy game 9 out of 10 times. It tells me Cincy is better than most realize and Pittsburgh may be in big trouble this weekend without a defense. They survived Washington due to the Redskins self destruction via penalties and some pretty favorable officiating.
I love our matchup with Pittsburgh. Smith will shut Brown down once again and our front seven will stop the run and keep Ben running for his life. This is why we have beaten them 4 out of 5 times in the last 2 years. We are deeper and stronger at every position on the offensive line and defensive front seven. Our secondary is light years ahead of their embarrassing back end.
But I hate our matchup with Cincy. They are strong where we are strong. One or two bad calls in their favor could make the difference and that makes me uncomfortable.
Once our offensive line gets it together (and they will) we should be much more effective. But for now, not committing any turnovers should suffice. That was they key stat in the win over buffalo....NO Turnovers. In the long run I don't see how anyone can stop Air Flacco with the weapons he has. Wallace, Perriman, Smith, Aiken, Moore, Pitta, Gilmore and Williams are the best group of receivers in Raven history. Forsett, West, Dixon and Allen are the best group of RBs we have ever had. I don't know how Juice gets on the field.....injuries??
No one is really giving due credit to the incredible defensive performance we put on last Sunday. The emergence of Orr and Wright to play at such a high level answered the 2 biggest pre game question marks on the defense. Plus the exceptional play of Pierce and Judon makes this one of, if not the, top defense in the NFL. Also, lets not overlook the healthy return of Suggs, His ability to play well and lead the defense cannot be overestimated. And Weddle made everybody in the secondary play at a higher level, especially Webb. Every OC in the NFL that saw the film on Orr was overly impressed. Watching Wright was almost surreal. This is a defense without a weakness. And the depth in the front seven is the best in the NFL.
My realistic hope is that we sweep the Steelers (again) and split with Cincy. It should come down to overall record between us and Cincy for the AFC North title.
But I hate to say that I will be happy if we eke out a 3 point win in Cleveland. Such is the nature of the NFL
