Kamalei Correa - thoughts

273 posts in this topic

I would like to have an opinion on Correa,  but it seems like he was kicking butt in camp, but after he hurt Pitta in Practice, and Joe reamed him out, it took the wind out if his sails.

If I was him, I would be studying with Weddle, being his shadow, learning how to develop his craft with brains, since he cant be on the field that much, almost like a backup qb with a clipboard, taking mental reps. He is definately a gifted athlete, get him watching film of Luke Keuchly, even Ray Lewis.

I imagine KCs got an inside track on the vacancy created by Orrs retirement.

and thats very unfortunate imo. he needs to be outside.

I don't like the idea of moving him back to the inside. I get that he clearly wasn't ready for the outside but let the guy stick in one place and develop there.

Can you sell me on him? Not disputing you, I just want to hear the other point of view, because I just can't see it.

You mods do such a good job, they could use you over at the Patriots forum - going to town on each other over there, no filters, no nothing

Back on topic - the analogy that we don't get Dixon if we don't take Correa makes this pick a lot easier to swallow.

You sayin that Patroits forum is worse than here for getting down on New England?

Looks like with  Orr done, a spot has opened up for him. Or if we plug McClellan there, and if Doom is gone, a spot is there too....the question is, what is Correa doing this offseason to better himself, and get on the field?

Have our coaches issued challenges to each player, giving them a list of things to work on in the offseason? Because my daughters soccer coaches even do that, hopefully our coaches have.

Pay Ray Lewis to coach him all offseason, and watch tape of every game Luke Keuchly has played. Done.

Why not have Perriman watch all of Julio Jones' games and Flacco watch all of Brady's games too then??

They all get off season conditioning packets lol! Whether they follow them is up to the player and whether they truly want a starting job or not. I think KC is better off outside but maybe with an entire camp STRICTLY inside he can make more strides. If not its a huge disappointment considering who was on that board. Michael Thomas- Sterling Sheppard-  Alexander - Deon Jones- and ofcourse Jack and Spence. (We have to remember we got those two extra 4ths though- which seems to have gotten us some very key contributors) difficult to weigh the outcome- atleast gotta give him another year to show what he can do. But yeah this year was a major letdown from him.

I don't think he would be under so much fire being a 2nd round rookie if it weren't for him making every other Raven headline in the offseason. So many good stories were about him being a beast at ILB and looking to be a starter. Then something happened where he fell off of a cliff and it sounded more like he lost the job more than Orr winning it at the time.

But some small part of me hopes that Correa wasn't inactive because of him being terrible at football... But because he wasn't necessary. The Ravens would rather keep McClellan active because he is a veteran and one of the better special teams players on the team that can play OLB and ILB. It sounded like the Ravens wanted Correa at ILB mostly throughout camp. I'm just hoping he didn't get much playing time because of the numbers game, rather than him being terrible. But I do not like the idea of McClellan being a starter. He does decent but he is terrible in coverage and so is Mosley at times. The team definitely needs a player that is better in coverage to compliment Mosley.

Make that Aaron Rodgers instead of Brady and I'll take it.

He's just got a rare first step and I would love to see him get a chance to develop there because if he gets his hand game right and stop trying to bullrush guys(which he is totally incapable of) then he could be an exciting speed rusher.

Although I'll admit he may be better suited to play inside due to his size, it's a shame though, he's got some exciting tools that can't be coached. I guess if he never pans out as an edge rusher we are lucky enough that he could still be a real solid ILB and it works out that we really need one now.

I worry that he'll be a one trick pony on the outside. Guys who can do nothing but speed rush are easy to game plan for. It's pretty easy to stop. To be effective on the outside, you need to be able to do something at least resembling a bull rush, just to keep the tackle honest.

His pre-draft comparison was Clay Matthews and Clay has done well in the NFL. He has some power but I wouldn't say he has mindblowing power. He has a lot of work to do to live up to prove fans he was worth a 2nd round pick but he is a sophomore I am not too worried.

He's got "relative" power. He's strong for his size and a lot of that strength is more or less momentum because he's so explosive and plays like a missile. As far as functional strength goes he lacks it big time, it's much less than I thought he had

I very much agreed with the Clay comparison pre-draft, but Correa severely lacks the functional strength Clay has, as JoeyFlex5 points out here.

I worry that his frame is maxed out and that he will struggle to add and keep on bulk, a la Arthur Brown. Hopefully he can add some bulk.

According to Hensley, the Ravens view Correa as an ILB now.  That's weird considering how little he played there, starting very early in the preseason.  Regardless, that seems like a massive disappointment considering our pass rush needs and the fact that they've seemingly already given up on him in that role.

I feel like he played there more than at OLB. Honestly I felt coming out he would be a better fit anyway. The Ravens usually have bigger guys build like DEs playing OLB. He was ahead of Orr for a bit on the depth chart going into the season then eventually lost out. Orr probably didn't get all his talent over night which means I bet Correa is progressing better than a lot of people are giving him credit for as of now.

Makes sense to put him there. He got embarrassed on the outside but, in small doses, he showed the range, athleticism, and instincts to play ILB.

He spent all camp and the first preseason game at ILB, and moved to the outside for the rest of the preseason games and the little bit of action he did see on defense in the regular season.  I'm guessing they saw enough to form the opinion that it wasn't going to work.  I'm fine with that as I thought he looked much better inside.  It's just disappointing that they draft a guy with the pass rush in mind and seemingly give up on that so soon.

This might be because of the Orr departure and they seem very high on Judon. So chances are he would be the 4th at OLB the best way to get him on the field would be at ILB. I'm hoping this entire time he has been behind the scenes he has bulked up.

I get that, but Orr situation aside, it's still disappointing if they drafted a guy for edge duties and find out in less than a year that he's not best suited for edge duties.

I agree it was disappointing seeing him run at full speed and get completely haulted by a non-moving lineman lol I actually died of laughter during the game when that has happened.
