No, not really. He just says the same things over and over. Wash, rinse repeat. That's why you really don't need to listen to him.  lol

He says the same things over and over cause his former team keeps making the same mistakes over and over. lol

I don't really have faith in this defense.

Realise the Offense constantly puts them in tough spots but against top flight opposition with the game on the line - I have very little faith they'll get a stop

vs Pats, vs Cowboys, vs Giants, vs Raiders

#1 d and when it mattered we gave up a 1 play TD

yeah I'm just not really feeling the ranking

playing the Browns twice a year, plus the jags, jets, Dolphins, bills  probably has more to do with it than our defense actually being that good

i don't even feel we're in the top 5 or 6 defenses

Sea, Den, Pats, KC, Min

hope the boys bring and show out to close out the season

im more inclined to think we give up big plays like the hogan TD on the weekend

prove me wrong

The defense is good we just don't have any depth in the secondary. Jimmy going out will always be our biggest blow.

Offense plays the same crappy teams to and they still sucked.

Vs. Pats, Cowboys, and Giants --when the big plays happened, Jimmy was out.  I'm afraid we are a great defense when Jimmy is in there, not great when he is out.

Yep Jimmy is off on an island and then the team can rotate its coverage of linebackers and safeties elsewhere to help the other corners. Pees is going to have to get really creative in helping out these younger corners with Jimmy Smith out. The team will most likely have to keep Weddle, Orr, or Mosley back in coverage to help a majority of plays. That means the defensive line needs to step up and get pressure with 1 less piece in a lot of situations it sounds like.

Yeah, I agree.  I am very nervous about these next 3 games (I'm assuming Jimmy will be out for all of them....even though obviously I don't have that information)  Hoping and praying that somehow, someway we get into the playoffs by somehow winning these next 3 (or winning 2 of 3 and getting some help from Dolphins and Broncos losing 2 of 3)  Then, maybe, just maybe...Jimmy will be healthy enough for a playoff run and January Joe will show back up.

WHAT!?!?!?!?!  You're telling me that a pass defense falls apart when their #1 corner goes out?  Na...

Offense looked crappy whether it's been a good or bad defense.  Doesn't matter, same story.  They love to show the still on 3rd where there is pressure and everyone is locked up.  If I had the time I'd love to dig up all the stills where guys are running free, the OL holds up and we still take the check down.  Pretty sure it will still be the wrs fault, the OLs fault or the OC.  Our guy loves to predetermine where he's going and lock onto his targets.  Don't worry though.  Next year is the break out season...

and if not, there's always the year after.

A defense that relies entirely on one player isn't that good. When a single corner goes down teams shouldn't suddenly be able to pass the ball at will. Besides, it's not like those throws weren't also against guys that would be starting with or without Jimmy in there. Besdies, the Pats put up nearly three hundred yards in the first half, and Jimmy was in there for that.

The Ravens have PFF's top safety in Weddle. Webb is a competent SS. People rave about how good Young is. Mosley has greatly improved in coverage, and people say Orr is playing at a near probowl level. Sugges is healthy, Doom came back, and Judon is the big midround find. The d-line is supposedly great. But apparently all that turns to trash the second Jimmy Smith isn't there.

Young is a rookie and still doesn't make up for what Jimmy brings.  Having him there means that we just have 2 competent starting cbs.  The second Jimmy leaves the field it's very noticeable.

The pass rush basically vanishes the second half of games and we all know that's a problem as well as corner depth.  No explanation for why the run d goes to crap when he leaves either.  I remember someone making a thread about if this defense was as good as 06 and I laughed because it's no where close.  Reed isn't Webb, Jimmy isn't C-Mac, Williams isn't Ngata and Suggs isn't 06 Suggs.  There's also no one who comes close to Thomas.

This is not a great defense, but they are good enough to get the job done if the other side can even perform an average job.

Corners and pass rushers are the premium positions on defense.

anytime you loose your top player at either of those positions you will suffer.

it goes for every team in the NFL.

Yet we are still ranked in the top in total defense yards after getting thrown on for 400 yards.  Best run defense and in my opinion, the most important stat is points allowed which we are 4th best.  11th in passing yards.  2nd in INTs.  Obviously where we lack, sacks @ 14th.

All across the board this is a great defense, but just because we don't have the flashy interceptions and the big sack numbers, it doesn't feel like it used to.   We don't have a Ray lewis, or Ed Reed, but guess what.....not too many teams do or ever did

The stats feel misleading to what I see when we're up against top notch offenses - that said we haven't been blown out by anybody

Still feels like a contain D to me, second Himmy goes out, all that contain goes out the window

Hopefully we can get everybody dialled in this week, ready for the big games coming up on the road

Our secondary is small (with the exception of Jimmy Smith) and slow. This causes a lot of mismatches with big WR's, or fast WR's. Playing against good QBs, they have exploited this. It also doesn't help that the Defence is always on the field because the offence can't sustain drives.

Thought we bent and didn't break too much, held up pretty well when the Offense wasn't giving the Eagles the ball at the 8 yard line.

Also wonder if there was a little bit of self preservation going on - save your self for the next couple of games - might even be coming from above.

Jimmy stuffs up his ankle - might be done for the year saving a TD on the 1 or whatever - in a game we didn't truly have to have.

Play smart guys, don't get blown up trying to save a yard here or there, unless the game is truly on the line.

End of the day we won and we live to fight another day
