so far webb has been given a pass due to the two wins...but he's not been impressive at all IMHO.

yeah well as long as hes not getting beat deep.. that would be a plus lol

how bout Weddle tho ... man where are opposite TEs now ? He's shutting them down, coming hard to support the run I really like him

weddle has been legit from the day he walked into this league. I liked him a lot in 2007 draft but with reed and landry having his best year ever in his rookie season i didnt think we needed him.

The D looked great in week 1. I thought they looked good against Cleveland as well. The Browns got lucky on a couple plays. That first TD pass, he was clearly out of bounds. You could see no space between his shoe and the line, you could also see a cloud of white dust kick up, there are also a couple pics out there showing him on the line. The long TD run, luck play. Those kind of plays are rare and there's luck involved. Take away those two plays and we looked great. There was a couple secondary breakdowns on 3rd down as well. But so far, so good.

I thought about this during the game, but this is sort of a chicken and the egg kinda deal. We were relentlessly hitting him and knocking the life out of him. In fact, that's one thing I noticed about this defense compared to last year--we are physical with our pass rushers, whether they are OLB or DL. These guys are hitting the QB and making them feel the hit (at least, whenever they actually get to the QB they do--sometimes they run past the QB or try to wrap up and fail miserably, but that's another story for another day). I think that affected Tyrod and I think it affected McCown. Did their poor performance both result from these hits they sustained as a consequence of our physical presence in getting after the QB? That's a good question and it's one I am wondering. Jernigan in particular is bringing the pain, but so is Pierce.

That is a good point but it is also only over a 2 game sample so it is tough to tell. Jacksonville and Oakland should be telling in that regard.

The answer to me is no... but if  this defense is like last seasons except for a few more timely turnovers, we can make a season out of it.

Dean Pees being on the field is making a difference, perhaps... But we were woefully unprepared for Cleveland out of the gate. To me, that's coaching.

Of course, it's also coaching that lead to the adjustments. But they killed us on 3rd-down and were marching on the last drive, which is a Pees specialty.

Sort of. As with everything in this game, there's what happened in the first quarter, and then there's what happened the rest of the game.

Browns were 4/4 on third down in the 1st quarter, 4/11 the rest of the game.

adjustment adjustment adjustment is the key; with Pees on the field, we will see lots of adjustment in game.....

It's only 2 game into the season; we have lots of thing to gel and it is coming......

PS: I think last Sunday game with Coach C.B just passed away, our guys just kind of dozed up for few mins, but eventually woke up; they should do well from now on, I believe.....

Heard one of the commentators mention the Ravens defense was "reeling" and really liked that comparison. Looks like our guys thought it would be the same old story with the Browns laying down, but got caught off-guard.

...Harbs probably loved that.

A little nervous about week 3, but as a fan im...so tired of watching this defense.

I mean, on two of those touchdowns, it was players flat out playing poorly.

Sooo... we give up 3 scoring drives which were clearly anomalies, proceed to play 3 quarters of shut out football, abusing their QB, and sucking the life out of them... and now the Defense isnt legit?

Fair enough. Everyones entitled to their opinion. But its darn near impossible to play perfect football all the time. We came out slow, and understandably slow. They were too emotional coming out with CB and everything. But they settled down and were shutout.

This D is for real. Theyll have hiccups, sure. But its for real.

I think it will get better as Jimmy improves upon the year. We really miss his ability to be a shut down CB and while he hasn't been bad by any stretch he has not been the Jimmy we all know and love admittedly. I'm hoping he breaks out soon(Which is what I predict) because it will elevate our defense further. We also should be getting Doom back in the mix so I don't see this defense as a defense that has reached its peak for the year.

He was shut down week 1.

Against the Browns not so much... and theres definitely room to improve. But ill take him getting beat on the occasional come back route for 5-7 yds over getting beat deep. Its a tall task to often be left alone without help over the top. In that position you sometimes just have to make a choice...

He has looked a bit slow changing directions, a little stiff in the hips... but ill give him some time. Im sure his foots still bothering him a little bit after having the screws removed.

Everybody needs to and can play better. But, for where we are in our return - playing like the best D in football 7/8 quarters - Ill take it.

One thing about our defense is CJ Mosley seems to be back playing like he played in his rookie season. Zack Orr is a good complementary LBer to him. Weddle has consolidated the secondary at least in terms of communication. The D-tackles Williams, Jernigan and Pierce are stout and penetrating and are likely to take up double teams to be stopped, which will free up our OLBs' Suggs, Doom, Judon and Zadarius to attack with reckless abandon. Our D can be great but we just need to put everything together.

Improve consistency at the CB position and get more productivity from the edge rush. If we can get that, the defense still won't be top 5 or anything, but will be for real.

It's cool and all... But 2 games in doesn't really tell the whole story.  We need to keep it up for a few more weeks and play a team that is a threat.

Yeah, it's nice to see us holding up well at this stage and I think Dean Pees has called two fantastic (near perfect) games so far, but I'd rather wait until after at least week four before putting us up there with one of the best.

this means absolutely nothing yet...

we'll have a better idea after facing jax and oakland. both teams match up well to beat our defense

Please let Judon see more snaps...

Crazy that we have 3 impact rookies in Judon, Young, and Pierce. These three could be stars.
