[News] The Breakdown: Eisenberg's Five Thoughts vs. Buffalo Bills

46 posts in this topic

Bottom line for me is the defense displayed a degree of swagger that was missing for the last few years. I'm glad they played like how the Ravens traditionally play defense. The offense is a work in progress clearly. Too many errors on false start and other penalties. Joe had a delay of game penalty that was uncharacteristic of him. But, they did enough to pull through and all we can ask for as a fan base are wins. They sure got a really ugly one today.

what is ugly and pretty win? don't we all want a win? I don't care how it looks but how it ends; we ended with 1-0. I don't worry too much about the miscues cuz they will go back to work fixing it.....Just think about if we win "ugly" closed game last year, we would be in the playoff with bunch of starters on the IR. As a fan, I'm ecstatic that we win...sheeesh....

Offense: a lot of gelling and finetuning will be needed, but there were quite several great micro-moments and promising performances. But theres a lot of work to be done... Luckily, Week#2 doesn't seem to be a much harder outing than today's one.

Defense: one scoring drive for the bills - and even that because Tyrod pulled his best Houdini impression.
That says it all about the D...

"Quick hits":

- no injuries
- no turnovers forced, no INT's thrown and fubles made (well, that one... all right).
- Shareece Wright had a career night. 11 tackles... That's no joke.
- Flacco threw completed passes to 10 different targets. That's borderline ridiculous with the normal amount of attempts he had. That was one of the best things today. If Joe can go on spreading out his passes to this many targets, a lot of D's are gonna be in trouble.
- All in all: this one was close enough to what I think could be fairly and realistically expected. Frankly, I expected a closer win - a "trademark" 3-pont W. We did better. And we're 1-0.

Biggest thing to keep in mind, is this next game is a bit of a trap game, but only if they let it become a trap game. Take advantage of the schedule now and stay grounded. Pride always comes before the fall.

Jimmy Smith is getting paid too much money to be playing like a second tier CB. Out of everyone on defense he might've been the worst. That pass rush really cover up for him. For a player to get 21 million guaranteed you would think the Ravens would get what they paid for.

Here is the good....1. The potential of this offense is unlimited, so many weapons, and we just got a taste from the run game and pass game.2...The Defense look fast and nasty, and was gang tackling, and again, having so much young talent, like Z, Pierce, Orr, Pierce, and (Henry will get his chance) makes for a lot of excitement for me....The bad....really considering this was the first time the starters played and entire game, i didn't see a lot that was horrible, i mean you hold a team to 160 total yards, 1 score, and missed opportunities on offense due to rust, i would say over-all A- to B+ considering no one knew what to expect....JMO....

1. A win is a win. Looking across the league there were a lot of close games. Proves you can't look at the schedule and predict wins. Every game is going to be tough

2. Good to see Wallace, Pitta and Perriman make plays. That's 3 guys that they did not have on the field last year.

3. Flacco was not stepping into throws, but his strong arm still gets the ball there (most of the time). some were low balls. I like that he is a little more cautious with running. joe was in the shotgun a lot.

4. Only 160 yards on the defense, no big plays, pressure on the QB, and no dumb penalties to extend drives. I think Bills were under 30% on 3rd down. It's a long season, but that's a good start.

5. Rookies played well. Stanley and Lewis were solid on the left side

More work to be done, but it's a good start

What game was this guy watching? Obviously not the same one I saw. I saw a terrible offensive performance, running backs being hit in the backfield, Joe either having no time to throw or throwing balls in the ground. If you take away the one big play to Wallace, there was nothing to cheer about. Ok, Perriman made a nice catch, but only one more then disappeared, and Pitta made a few. Mostly, they were ineffective and inept against a mediocre team. Based on this performance, you can chalk up 4 losses to Pittsburgh and Cincinnati. We may not even beat Jacksonville in week 3.
Praise to the defense though. With the exception of McClellan missing a big tackle that gave Buffalo a TD, they did well.

SMH. No confidence. Just be happy we got the W. We'll improved week to week. Plus it's the first game.

Rex Ryan has never coached a "mediocre" defense. Buffalo's defense is top notch. Funny how you label them a mediocre team but you called for Rex to replace Harbaugh and Tyrod to replace Flacco.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. That wasn't an insult. Its an actual quote by Trent Dilfer in the 2000 season.

He really was actually pretty good today. He didn't allow any big game breaking plays today and really locked Sammy down.

Mccelellans wasn't the only one missing tackles. We had numerous plays where it looked like either Tyrod or Shady would b stopped in the backfield but ended up gaining a lot of yards. Another big wiff happened when one of their receivers caught a bomb on their 15. The CB who was covering had him wrapped up. Then web comes in and spears the guy. He made absoulutly no attempt to wrap him up. There were also times when defenders would over persuit and leave cut back lanes wide open. The offensive line had a rough day. They didn't get much of a push in the running game and allowed a lot of pressure in passing situations. The most frustrating part of the game were the miscues. Snapping the ball early and committing a lot of false starts which killed a lot of our drives

He shadowed Sammy Watkins. One of the top and most Dangerous Wrs in the game. Watkins- 4 catches for 43 yards. No TDS. NNNEEEEEXXXXTTTT! LOL

O look, this ridiculous negative comment is from the same user I frequently see them from. surprise there. You're right, you should probably judge the rest of the season solely off today????wth. This O is loaded and going to get better and better every game. Stoked for my Ravens

Of course glad for the win, but offensive performance inexcusable. Playcalling by Trestman still questionable starting year 2. No reason even against a good defense, at home..Ravens dont put up 25 points.
I want more of Wallace,Perriman,Pitta..not just 2-3 plays a game.
An establish the run..No RB has more then 12 rushes..though total is 28 which is misleading. Give it to Forsett 15-17x and West 10-12 visa versa but someone has to carry it close to 20x

Why didn't Dumervill play? He's recovered from last season I heard.

he had a recent set back in his recovery. sounds like he'll be back anywhere in the next 1-4 weeks.

So basically, because we should all be thrilled that Wright played a crazy good game, that this makes Jimmy a second tier CB? Look, I've been one to say all thorough the preseason that Jimmy's needs to prove that his inability to play up to expectations last year was due to lingering injury and we need to see that behind him starting now.

Watkins really didn't have an effect on the game and that dude's no joke. The only catches he got where when the Bill did give TT loads of time and those catches were never of the 20+ yards variety. IMO - that's an acceptable performance for a #1 CB and doesn't warrant getting blasted.

I'm glad John threw in the last bit ... that as frustrating as the offense was through much of the game, the fact that they sealed the deal on the final possession was refreshing. When Hester ran backwards, I'm thinking ... man ... here we go - a 3 and out and they'll now get decent field positions and we'll be biting our nails down the stretch as the Bills are taking shots into the end zone for the potential win. So glad that didn't happen.
