Week 1: The good the bad and the ugly vs Buffalo

I saw some low throws to protect the receiver and just secure the 1st down. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm assuming he was playing it safe and not misfiring. Especially on broken plays where the WR is coming back to the ball.

I definitely saw playing it safe, I really think the Knee effected him. But protecting the WR I wouldn't say that.

If you care to go back to the video. Look at the 3rd & 11 play @7:45 in the 1st quarter. Flacco hit Wallace for the 1st down, but the throw was low because Joe didn't step into it. Had he hit Wallace in his hands, there was plenty of room to run because his defender was at least 2 yards away at the catch and it was man to man defense. So if he catches the ball and can run, Juice is there to block and SSS ran his man off deep, so with just a single high safety there was plenty of room for Wallace to work. There was no need to protect him there.

The 1&10 play @:50 during the 2 minute drill. He did a great job of anticipating Pitta coming out of his break, but a low throw forced Pitta to grass. Now it was totally Pitta's fault the pass wasn't complete, however if Joe steps into the throw, he leads Pitta and if the ball is caught again, there is YAC opportunity there. The Bills were in man coverage and Pitta had plenty of space. Again no need to protect him with the throw there, if anything you want to lead him to the sideline and get out of bounds to save a TO there, but Pitta could have possibly picked up so serious yardage there.

@11:37 in the 4th. Flacco has SSS in the middle of the field, again it man coverage. SSS isn't as open as the other two plays i pointed out, but he didn't need to be protected with a low throw. If SSS is hit in the hands, even though it was pretty good coverage, we've seen SSS shake off a tackle or two and get RAC yards.

There were a couple other instances where Joe throwing flat footed really hurt the offense but I don't think it'll be much of an issue going forward. You can say you don't think or worry about the knee, but when you're out there it's a different story. Hell even if he wasn't thinking about it because it didn't hurt, you could clearly see if was impacted by it. The more he plays the more comfortable he'll feel and I think that's when the offense takes off.

A lot of missed sacks. But the good thing is not every QB is Tyrod Taylor. Next week I say we get about 5 sacks

RG3 = Tyrod with less accuracy.

 The good:

Well worth waiting for after all these months.

Webble looks good at safety and a definite improvement from last season.

                  Perriman's catch: beauuuuutiful.

On defense, players were swarming to the ball like old times.

                  Great pass rush.

 The bad:

Is it me, or does it seem like once a team adjusts to our scheme, be it offense or defense, we have a difficult time readjusting?

Offense looked a lot like last year's.  Mostly quick drop off passes and not much gain.

Hester could have stayed in end zone for touch back to 25Yrd line twice, but instead decided to bring it out for less yards.  This was one of Jacoby's problems his last year with us.

All in all an exciting game and a win.

the good - sharrece wright, have to give the man props, was bagging him out and saying he looked poo in the preseason, then read somewhere that he was a bit nicked up last few weeks - he brought it today and was outstanding - great job!!

Was bagging the FO for not getting another corner in the offseason or the draft - if Wright keeps that up - no need

Good-  BP's great catch.  Wallace, exactly what i thought he would be, even if he has lost a step, you can notice how much faster he is than everyone else.  The RBs had some good runs.  Pitta looks reliable as he did back in the day.  Defense...i liked what i saw.

Bad-  2nd half play calling was terrible, way too conservative, even though we didnt run it that much, some how doesnt make sense.  Hester still has some speed, but his decisions to run into tacklers prolly wasnt the best way to gain yards.  Yanda....really?

Overall- I knew this would be a tough ugly game, i was very worried at the end around 4mins when we couldnt do anything, i was worried that if they got the ball back they would score.  For now, im going to attribute some stuff to rust, i think we will see some adjustments, we need to get Moore and BP involved.

How did KC play?

How many deep shots did Joe take?

Did Buffalo just make great adjustments for the 2nd half or did our offense actually suck that bad?

I think we'd sooner put Jensen or Urschel at center than trade for a center. There's really no time to make that move because as you said, you need chemistry and any center we trade to acquire wouldn't have enough time to really come in and make an impact, IMHO.

I like unschel at center since he played there last yr when z went down

I agree that he didn't look like himself. He's coming off a serious injury and he's older but he didn't look right out there.

Yeah, Urschel is a good option but I'm not sure where he fits since he was inactive today and we had Jensen active. Combine that with the fact that Jensen played C in TC, and it makes you wonder if we even want Urschel there.

I want to see another week out of Zuttah before we start calling for his benching. Rex has always gotten a lot out of his interior DLs. Danny Shelton will be a good test for Zuttah imo.

I've been more worried about Wagner going into the season. He seems more like 2015 Wagner than 2014 Wagner, which is discouraging. He should have a good matchup this week.

Oh, and where are all the obnoxious Bills fans at now?

All the dominant offense talk.. They had zero offense when we couldn't even generate a consistent pass rush

Weird. My gf's bro did that and he looks the same. I mean he can't walk, but aesthetically he's no different.

Sad(side) note: Doubt Steve Returns to form. And by that I mean, he'll still be a very good option, but not the player he was last year. You can never change savvy route running, the ability to find soft spots in the zones, toughness, and good hands. But he's not as fast as he used to be.

That being said. We've got good guys waiting in the wings with Perriman, Moore, and Aiken.

Yup, and all of them are under the radar. I was on the bills forum and saw several times "the Ravens don't have any playmakers". Yeah ok...

Hell, the whole team is under the radar.

defense looked fantastic.

pitta played very well same with wallace.

offense in general looked alright. can be a few things to improve on.

only thing i really saw an issue with was flacco being really stiff and playing it really safe. hopefully he starts to loosen up in the next few games.

Also some of these backwards plays with 1 yard to go ticked me off. If the offense has 1 yard to go, I'd much rather see a power-play up the middle than a pitch or screen that starts developing 5 yards behind the LOS. Maybe this was a reaction to how little push they were getting inside behind Zuttah.

Definitely. Those drive me nuts.

lol I was logging on to here just to see if anyone else noticed how bad Zuttah was today. He's continuing from a bad preseason, too. Usually O-linemen are still in their prime at age 30, but he has regressed it seems. Hopefully it's just a bad game and this is all overreaction, but he looked weak out there today even when he wasn't whiffing on blocks or hiking the ball at the wrong time. He's a big reason why our inside runs went for no gain.

Yeah he did come from an awful preseason. Run blocking has never been a strength for Zuttah. The guy gets no push what so ever. Plenty of QB sneaks failed partly because Zuttah would just get pushed back like a rag doll. I don't want to take credit away from Zuttah but here's my honest take. Marshall Yanda and K.O are serious maulers at the guard position, IMO it definitely masked Zuttah's ineffective run blocking, but with K.O gone it just exposes it. Yanda is great but when you have two guys down there who can push back the defense then it's truly a game changer. Now I question Zuttah's pass blocking(Which has always been solid) as well because it looked bad this game and throughout the entire preseason. I honestly don't think the guy is in for a good year. Hey, who knows, maybe he proves me wrong but if this continues I really think they(Ravens) should look at other options. I don't know if Urschel is your answer honestly.
