Ed Reed: I'll make NFL comeback for $300 million

14 posts in this topic

This is interesting, former Ravens player and current Bills defensive assistant Ed Reed feels like he can still play in the NFL and offered a proposal that if a team can pay him $300 million, he would make a comeback to the NFL as a player, maybe the Ravens should make Reed the defensive coordinator to replace Dean Pees?: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000697499/article/ed-reed-ill-make-nfl-comeback-for-300-million

Quote

Bills defensive assistant and future Hall of Famer Ed Reed thinks -- and looks -- like he could still pick off a pass and take it for a touchdown.

But it would cost any interested team hundreds of millions of dollars to change his mind about retirement.

"What's the lottery?" Reed said, via ESPN.com, when asked what amount of money could get him to throw on the shoulder pads again. "It's like 308 (million)? 306? Something like that, right? I got to hit the lottery."

"I got two or three years in me," he said. "But I'm not giving it to the league. I already decided not to. Things could happen, but I don't think there's enough finances to get me in those cleats anymore, man. They tend not to want to play the vets."

Reed and his new boss, Bills coach Rex Ryan, can probably both agree that he is in a better place. Reed's departure from Baltimore and career arc from that point on weren't what we expected from the nine-time Pro Bowler and former NFL defensive player of the year, but coaching seems to have come just as naturally.

Should Reed move up the ladder, it will hopefully cost a team a little less than $300 million to make him a defensive coordinator.

Really hope he's our defensive coordinator down the line

He's yet to show success as a position coach let alone dc.   Yes he was a very talented safety that had unreal instincts. That doesn't always transfer over to being an excellent coach.

How does that invalidate what I said?

you cannot wait for him to be our dc and he's yet to show success as a coach.

I didn't say you were wrong. I just mean I hope he learns the tools how to be a successful defensive coach, wether that be positional or calling the shots because his instincts are invaluable and he'd be a good teacher to have for anyone in the secondary.

I'd like Ed in the organization to some capacity, but just because you had great instincts doesn't make you a good teacher. Typically that's something that only you possess and it's not transferable. In fact it's often frustration to have something come so easily to you and be charged with teaching it to other because not many if any can see things like you and then have the talent to action on it as well.

Now I do think he'll be a good teacher as he led film study nights at his home for many years and guys like Webb, CMac and other have credited him for their development in film study. Sometimes the greatest are that way because they just have aspects about them that weren't taught and can't be taught to others.

This. Remember HOFer Joe Greene never progressed to DC.

according to rex ryan he'll be a HC in 5 years. maybe he'll get put on the express lane to HC and take over for rex when he gets fired at the end of the year.
