[News] Byrne Identity: Can't Wait For Sunday; Bring On The Bills

29 posts in this topic

The return of Flacco, Forsett, Suggs, SSS, Zutah, Pitta, Will Davis and eventually Elvis are all giant boosts to our team... and cant wait to see them back in the mix.

The debut's of Stanley, A Lewis, Chris Moore, Breshard Perriman, Devin Hester, Eric Weddle, Mike Wallace, MCannaday, Tavon Young, Matt Judon, K Correa, and eventually Kenneth Dixon, should leave us better at every level of the offense and defense.

The on-going development of potential superstars like Brandon Williams, CJ Mosley, Z Smith, Jimmy Smith, Sharece Wright, Maxx Williams, Terrence West, Kamar Aiken, Rick Wagner, Marshall Yanda and Juice should make us a force by themselves in most games.

The personal is there. The only thing that really concerns me going into this season is two things:
1. Can we stay healthy this year
2. Can Dean Pees really cut it as a DC in this league.

Outside of those two issues - I really believe that the return of injured players, the addition of talent and the on-going development of stars that we already have... should prove that we are one of the top 2 or four teams in the NFL this season. (Maybe better) but those two issues scare me if I am honest!

Can somebody find out how the Ravens have fared since inception after losing the first game of the season? I'm curious to know because that could be a foreboding sign. This game's criticality cannot be overstated.

What? This is a 16 game season and you are worried about losing one game. Even if we do lose it is not the end of the season. Relax my friend. Win or lose we are in for the long haul. By the way, I think we win.

The onus for a successful Raven season rests with the coordinators. On paper, the talking-heads, in general, rate us as a .500 team. It's up to Trestman and Pees to build the game plans that take us to the playoffs. Rex Ryan and the Bills will give us a great indication of who we are and I'm cheering for a 'W'.

My thoughts exactly. I'm listening to radio hearing all the Steelers hype and how The Ryan brothers are going to bring it. Ravensnation have some faith.
Let's look at the Bills
1. Statistically a worst pass defense than Ravens last year. No new additions this year.
2. Where are their pass rushers?
3. Blitizing will leave corners to cover Smith Sr, Wallace, Aiken, or Perriman one on one.
4. Consistently miss the playoffs even as a wild card in a weak division

What Ravens lacked last year, they have improved this year.

1. No Deep threat. We now have Perriman, Wallace, and Moore.
2. Poor play at LT. We now have 6th overall draft pick and a better backup than Hurst.
3. Only two passers last year in Dummervil and Z. Smith. Smith has steadily improved. Add to that Suggs returning with a chip, Judon, and Correa. Another interior rusher with Henry.
4. Speed at ILB. See Levine on passing situation.
5. Poor safety play. Enter Weddle and Webb. Not world beaters, but better than what Ravens had last year.

If Pitta, Smith Sr, or Aiken can come close to previous level of play, a lot of doubters will eat their words.

Lol on the M.A.S.H reference. Last year was so bad even fans were sustaining injuries ? The year will absolutely be different tho. This year will be about playing ball. The difference IMO between last year and this year is last year fate dealt us, this year our players command their fates in game outcomes and stay healthy. I imagine there's been more prep and lessons learned from past injuries. Sure some injuries are unavoidable but mostly injury teaches about how to prepare for it NOT happening again in future.

You got to love all the doubters out there. Whenever this team is picked to be sorry losers, like this year's pundits are predicting, the Raven's ALWAYS come out and prove everybody wrong. The nay saying will hopefully continue all year, giving this team more fuel to go out and win games. The rest of the country can say "no way", but here in Raven's nation we just love being underdogs.

When we win our first game, we average 10.3 wins per season compared to just 7.3 when we lose our first game.

We have missed the playoffs one time in our history when we've won our first game (1996), and have only made the playoffs twice when we have lost our first game.

Note: Only counting regular season wins

So we simply must win this first game then. I suspected the stats to reflect what you just informed all of us about, but goes to show how important it is to leave everything on the field on Sunday. There won't be do overs and I don't buy the hype and excuse that it is a long season. The first win always sets the tone for the rest of the season.

I agree, Pees needs to unleash our beasts. We are not built to be a bend and don't break D.

Of course i want to see a win a lot of wins. but the first thing I want to see is an opening drive TD not field goal for the offense. I feel like we don't do that enough and I feel if we did (plus were home) we'd take the momentum real quick.
