Michael Pierce

When bwilliams inevitably leaves next year, I'd like to see a 43 front of Z, jernigan, pierce, and judon with suggs, mosley, and correa at LB. Pierce and jernigan look like an ideal dt tandem, they bring some serious interior penetration and pierce has a lot of beef to occupy blockers and get push but is explosive enough to take advantage when the blockers focus elsewhere.

Suggs at LB in a 4-3?  No thanks.

Why not keep both Williams and Pierce and have a nice interior duo that can do some amazing things together? I really like the combo we have going with Willierce

Tough part is we look like we are in the midst of a truly breakout season from Jernigan. Highly unlikely we would be able to retain both in back to back seasons...

Yeah I see jernigan really busting onto the scene this year with double digit sacks. Bwilliams is likely going to become a nice shiny trade-able comp pick.

Michael Pierce has really stood out so far. He played extremely well in the preseason, and it's nice to see him get not only a roster spot but significant playing time as well. He looks like he could be another gem the Ravens found as an undrafted rookie free agent.

This got me to thinking, if Pierce keeps playing the way that he is, wouldn't he basically drop B Will's stock?  I  don't think I've heard B Will's name called in 2 games.  If his stock drops then we could possibly afford to keep him?  If Pierce keeps playing like he is, I could honestly see Ozzie's 80/20 rule allowing B Will to walk w/out even offering him a decent contract.

This thread seems familiar, not sure if I can place what it is though

It's like the opposite of the infamous "Ed Reed is on the decline" thread from the Scout forums.

Sounds familiar, but can you refresh my memory?

I don't like him at pass rusher anymore. He has been so ineffective so far this year, like I don't see any reason to even field him in pass rushing snaps.

But I think he still has it as a run defender and I would think his ability to work the flats in coverage and sniff out plays to the edge would still be effective, it would also probably add some more years of effectiveness if he isn't constantly engaging with LTs, letting him play in space more could maybe help him out.

Or I could be completely wrong and he is way too slow for it, I haven't found that out yet... But that's for another thread anyway.

I think he's definitely still working his way back into game shape.  I think he'll come on stronger in the pass rush department as the year goes on.  If anything, I think he'd be more effective as a 4-3 End then a 4-3 OLB though.

Pierce has been so good that it could force Brandon Williams out sadly. I love Williams but give me Jernigan and Wagner all day. I think Jernigan will be a candidate for an extension and I'll have to admit, I myself was hard on Wagner. I thought to much of his run blocking without realizing just how great he's been in pass protecting. I really would love to keep him here.

10th best rookie so far according to PFF.  Ronnie Stanley is 9th as well.

"10. Michael Pierce, DE, Ravens

This is one guy to keep an eye on going forward. The rookie out of Samford has only played 33 snaps over two games, but has totaled a sack, a hit, and two hurries over that span. Right now, no first-year defensive lineman is grading higher. Pierce just needs to prove it’s not a sample-size fluke, and he’ll see himself move on up this list."

Timmy Jernigan is going to cost a bomb I reckon. Hoepfully pierce means we can reluctantly but wisely let b will go to keep our interior pass rusher in timmy.

Not to mention Brandon Williams will be 28 next season.

That's typically the age when guys get pay days. Josh Norman is 28 I honestly don't have much of a problem with Williams turning 28

Pierce was indeed dominant.  Here is what I wrote in my defensive article:

I scored Michael Pierce (18 snaps) for 3 pressure events. He overpowered Joel Bitonio to the outside for his first career sack (Q4, 9:33). He had the first hit on McCown (Q1, 12:30) when he beat Cam Erving and rolled McCown over traffic behind him for one of the hardest QHs you’ll ever see. I was amazed McCown got up from it, but he would endure 7 more knockdowns, most of which were almost as punishing. In a game where the Ravens allowed 6.6 yards per snap as a team, they allowed just 1.7 YPP with Pierce in the game and 8.7 YPP without him. An illuminating coming-of-age moment came on the final drive when Pierce was inserted for the first 2 plays. In that situation, you expect someone who can make a pass rush contribution to be in, which is not normally a NT. In addition, to that point Pierce had never played a snap without Brandon Williams lined up next to him.

Agreed. I'll go with the youth and pass rushing

Awesome to see. Two of our boys in the top 10.

And Pierce with the highest grade so far among all rookie DL? Pretty cool. Still a small sample size, but i dont think its any fluke. He's looked explosive and darn near dominant since he stepped onto the field for us in preseason.

He needs more snaps. You get the sense watching that it's only a matter of time. At some point in each game he's going to embarrass his man, get in the backfield and punish the QB.

it looks like we just got super deep super quick....only time will tell, I do really like Carl Davis. With Bobby and Timmy in the middle, are we going to see more 4-3 action?

Davis is a work in progress, right now I think he's on IR.

As for Pierce, he's made me more confident that we can replace Williams if necessary.

Maybe I'm just insane, but who the hell is Bobby?
