Michael Pierce

91 posts in this topic

Not sure if this has been discussed in detail but michael pierce's athleticism is off the charts. He is listed between 330-340 so lets just call it 335.

He ran a 40 in 4.98 seconds. His 10 yard split is 1.67..thats flat out ridiculous. I'll put this in perspective. Aaron donald who weighs 285 had a 10 yard split of 1.64.

could you imagine what pierce would be running if he was 285? His broad jump is the same as donalds too!

I could end up being wrong about this, but I really think we might have found a special one in Pierce.  I was a bit skeptical in the first couple of games because of the overall talent level he was facing.  However, when he was in against starters, he was still putting them on skates.  It's not often you see a man that size that's able to push the pocket like he does.  I'm really looking forward to seeing him on the field this year.  With Davis on IR, I imagine we'll be seeing quite a bit of him.

His 10 yard split is the most elite 10 yard split speed-weight ratio wise i've seen..

no one in this draft comes close...its like adalius thomas in 2000 at 270 pounds with a 1.56

Pierce and Judon are both players I was skeptical on because they were facing future grocery baggers and car salesman.  Then they both got a chance against starters and still continued to perform.  This draft looks so freaking promising

It's amazing to me that no one took a late round flier on Pierce given his athletic ability. When you combine his potential with the Ravens' history of coaching up linemen, we could get something amazing out of him. I'm not gonna expect him to dominate right away, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's one of the main starters  As a sidenote, this could be two years in a row than an undrafted rookie gets significant playing time, with the potential to be a full time starter (Orr being the one last year).

I like the idea of BW in on running downs & Pierce rotating in on passing downs. That pocket push in the middle is exactly what we need.

Pierce has jumped off the tape. His preseason play was no fluke. He's going to make noise this season. I dont know if he hits the ground running, but at some point hes going to be a regular contributor on the Dline.

Davis going out with an injury may be that door open that Pierce needs... and may be the twist of fate that lets us stumble upon a gem we may not have otherwise given the chance.

I call shenanigans on Davis' injury.  I think we put him on ir to keep him and buy time.

As to what Sami said, yeah he pops out.  He didn't look or move like a man his size should.  With the right coaching, we could have a monster up front.

brandon williams 10 yard split was 1.86 at 335 pounds. Pierce is the same weight and it was 1.67

Well, probably a combination of both.

Probably had an injury that would keep him out maybe a couple weeks (3-4 at most), but we can't afford to keep hanging on to injured starters with varying injuries AND he's not a core player where we are in trouble without him.

Thus, he gets sent to IR. Makes sure we keep control of him in the future, and he still gets paid most importantly.

Make no mistake, carl davis on IR made me happy. It solidified better players making this roster.

He's just been so meh..

To an extent.  Not a season ender for Davis but it's been stated that he has a legitimate multi-week injury.

I absolutely love this kid and rooted for him to make the team and he did. I've seen some of his video and work out videos that just prove he's a freak. If this guy can settle down, I see him as not just an able replacement for Brandon Williams but a pretty good one too!

I am visualizing a front 3 of Williams, Pierce and Jernigan - 3 pitbulls pushing back the pocket. This will hopefully force QBs into a 10 step drop back and will give Judon, Zadarius and Suggs plenty of area to get to the QB! I see crazy good stuff happening here.

if michael pierce puts on a show this season, it will be PERFECT timing. keeping the pressure off of the FO to sign brandon williams is huge, that would take too much money for a player who plays a devalued role. pierce could legitimately be the kinda guy you want when you want to pass rush in your base 34, if you wanna collapse and penetrate the middle with 3 down linemen and bend the corners with 2 olbs, thats the kinda guy you want, one strong enough for the push and quick enough to hit the crease when it opens up.

I remember another Heavy D-linemen that we drafted a few years ago.

He was also crazy athletic and had an outgoing personally.

That guy is now one of the best at his position. Of course im talking about Brandon Williams.

He wrecked Max Unger (who's really no slouch) more than once - that's genuinely impressive for a UDFA rookie. There's a lot to be excited about, especially with Jernigan and Williams tiring out the interior OL guys.

And that is a haircut for the ages.

I will be honest, I watch lots of films before the draft and I didn't know Pierce. As soon he got on the field in the first preseason game I noticed him and I'm prety sure I talked about him in the First preseason game thread. He's been a monster in preseason and I'm glad he made the team. The Ravens have one of the best if not the best defensive line coach of the league and I'm sure he'll be able to work him to be our next UDFA gem.

I loved watching the interview he did after a practice session last week, such a well spoken guy.

This was my first time watching him in an interview and he seems like a nice guy and a real hard worker. I really like what we've got in Pierce.

Williams and Pierce lining up either side of the centre will be handy to have on 3rd and 1

Would be great if this guy could prove himself starter level. Damon Harrison set the market for nose tackles and I can't see any way Ravens will be able to pay Brandon Williams near that level, as much as I would love him on this team for the next 5 years

That is exactly what struck me too! Extremely well spoken, poised and articulate kid.

The trio of Williams, Jernigan and Pierce will be a load for any offensive line to contain in my view. If they can get adequate push on the O-line, it'll force quarter backs into longer drop backs on passing downs. This means two things, the ball has to be held longer with the QB and it also provides a much larger arc for OLBs to get pressures, hits and sacks on QBs. If this formula works, I expect a ton of sacks this year. I'll go out on a limb and say we are getting more than 45 sacks as a team this season.

I like both of them on short yardage.

The current set of linemen could mean even more of a passing-down focus for Jernigan.

If he dominates, he will draw a double team....if that happens, its game over as Suggs or somebody will be singled up

I think Pierce may rack up a lot of tackles behind the line in the first couple weeks simply because he's an unknown and people aren't game-planning against him yet. Though even when they start paying attention to him, he'll just open things up for others.

One interesting thing to keep in mind is how good Mosley is at blitzing the A gap. Mosley will get to blitz between Williams and Pierce. He could have an easy time going through an open lane as those two each take up two blockers.
