2016 Week 1 Other Teams

691 posts in this topic

probably the right spot for it - just wanted to start a thread on week 1 - what you're looking for, things to keep an eye out

interested to see how osweiler looks against the bears, should be a nice easy game for him to get started

see what the jags are all about - if they come out with a bang and get a w over the packers - that hype train will start picking up some serious steam

eyes on the browns, steelers - particularly given weve got washington early,

patriots cards should be a good game

I was just getting ready to post my week one thread and I see you beat me to it lol. Anyway here is my insight on the week one games.....

Panthers @ Broncos: The Denver Broncos start a new era with Trevor Siemian. We know Wade Phillips and co will bring a defense that held the high scoring Panthers to just 10 points in the Super Bowl. The question is on offense and what will become of the Broncos offense this season. The Panthers lost Josh Norman, have the same offensive line that got handled in the Super Bowl. Panthers were 0-2 against the Broncos in the Manning era in Denver with their last win coming in 2008 when Manning was still a Colt.

Buccaneers @ Falcons: The Falcons started out red hot at 5-0 last year before falling apart and missing the playoffs including getting swept by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs look to win their third straight over Atlanta who hope Winston shows some growth this upcoming season as a glimpse into the future in Tampa.

Bears @ Texans: Houston has a new quarterback in Brock Osweiler who was overpaid in FA. It looks like JJ Watt is going to play on Sunday which is not good news for Jay Cutler, thank goodness for the Packers releasing Josh Sitton. Can the Bears compete with the Pack and the Vikings and land a playoff spot? The AFC South is still a bad division as it can be anyone's division to win.

Packers @ Jaguars: Potential upset alert depending on how high you are on the Jaguars heading into week one. Got a lot hype surrounding them with Blake Bortles proving to be the franchise QB they have been looking for. The Jags defense could give Aaron Rodgers some fits in the form of newly signed Malik Jackson, whose offensive line is now without Josh Sitton.

Chargers @ Chiefs: The Joey Bosa saga is over  but the Chiefs will be without Justin Houston as he is on the PUP list to start the year. That will be a huge blow to a Chiefs defense that helped lead the Chiefs to 11 straight victories in 2015. The Chargers look to bounce back after having a terrible year in 2015.

Raiders @ Saints: The AFC West is wide open and the young upstarts in Oakland are ready to lay claim to the AFC West. Derek Carr should continue to improve with a newly added KO to their offensive line giving him more insurance. That defense should give Drew Brees some fits as Mack is another who will get better as the years go on. Speaking of defenses, this could be ugly for the Saints who jsut lost Sheldon Rankins for half the year if they can't stop the Carr to Cooper connection. Potential embarrasing home blowout here.

Bengals @ Jets: The Bengals must put their January meltdown behind them and look to come away with a huge road win. This is going to be a game that we look back on as a game that determined a wild card spot or division seeding if both win their respective divisions. Can the Bengals finally do enough in 2016 to get over the hump? We'll find out in January the answer to that, and the Jets are the only team who can take advantage of Brady's suspension in the AFC East, can they do it?

Browns @ Eagles: It was the Browns who helped the Eagles draft Carson Wentz, now they must face him on Sunday in a potential "What If" scenario and Wentz tears it up against them. For the Eagles they are cleaning up after Chip Kelly, while the Browns are still cleaning up since 1999. The Browns have lost 11 straight season openers(1-15 Week 1 Record since 1999) with their only week one win coming in 2004. Expect the Eagles and the QB the Browns could have had to take it to 12 straight.

Vikings @ Titans: With Bridgewater out for the year, the Vikings acquired Sam Bradford. They have yet to announce their week one starter against the Tennessee Titans. Despite not firing Mike Mularkey, the Titans had a good offseason and GM Jon Robinson is ready to turn them around. Potential upset here if the Vikings aren't careful.

Dolphins @ Seahawks: For Seattle, their offensive line is a huge question mark and it will get tested against a stout Miami defensive line consisting of Cameron Wake, Mario Williams, Ndamukong Suh and Earl Mitchell. Can Seattle step up and compete against Arizona and will Miami finally show something after under achieving for the past couple years?

Giants @ Cowboys: The New York Giants will be hosting Dak Prescott's coming out party as they look to bring the rookie and his expectations back to reality. After spending money in order to upgrade their defensive line, expect the Cowboys offensive line to be tested in this one. Can Eli Manning and co take advantage of the Cowboys defense or will Prescott pull off the upset and lead the Cowboys to victory?

Lions @ Colts: With everything riding on the back of Andrew Luck once again, is he healthy enough to carry the team or will it be another bad year for the new $100M quarterback? The Lions will be without Calvin Johnson who brought in Marvin Jones and Anquan Boldin to help lessen the blow of losing Megatron. Will the Lions be able to pressure Luck and come away with a road victory?

Patriots @ Cardinals: Game 1 without Brady. The Cardinals look to put last year's NFC Championship game behind them and start 2016 on the right foot. Arizona has come up short the past couple years but can they finally put together a Championship season? 4 weeks without Brady is going to be interesting to watch and see if they enter week five 1-3, 0-4, or even 2-2.

Steelers @ Redskins: I fully trust that the QB matchup between Big Ben and Kirk Cousins should be enough to decide this but the Steelers are coming into this game not 100%. No Bell(at least for 3 weeks), Martavious Bryant is out for the year and the Steelers defense is a shell of it's former self. Now Bud Dupree is out for the first half of the season, many will pick Pittsburgh but this is my Week One Upset of the week, Redskins over Steelers.

Rams @ 49ers: Case Kennum vs Blaine Gabbert? ESPN will wish it was Matt Schaub vs Josh McCown. Who wants to live in the NFC West Basement more? That is the question.

Tomorrow, we get to see the Panthers do to the Broncos, what many thought they would do to them in the SB.

I'm kinda torn on tomorrow's game, as far as who I think will win. Not much has changed for Denver defensively, but I can't see Cam getting rag dolled again.

I'm leaning toward Denver, many people are putting way too much into the Denver QB situation. Anyone who knows how Gary Kubiak coaches, Trevor won't be asked to do much as they will lean toward CJ Anderson to keep the Carolina offense on the bench. That defense is still the same and yes they lost Malik Jackson but I don't see that being that big of a loss as many may think. Carolina didn't do anything to improve their OL as they returned the same offensive line that couldn't handle Miller or Ware. Carolina will also be asking two rookie corners(James Bradberry and Daryl Worley) to cover Thomas and Sanders. I think Denver wins by 2 TDs.

Panthers 10

Broncos 28

I don't think Denver will be able to run on a tough Carolina front and I don't trust their QB to go down and win it. Also I don't think the Denver D-line is as deep as it was last year and I think the Panthers have more success on thr ground and wear out Denver. I think Carolina wins a low scoring game

Hoping we can watch the Broncos get smashed into the ground tonight.  I remember during the SB there seemed to be a pretty even split on the boards between Denver and Carolina fans - wonder if people will still be rooting for Denver tonight.

Why do you want the Broncos to lose so badly? I don't care either way, although I think they'll win.

I'm sure the Redskins win this one but I cannot call it an upset.

I agree.

I'm just not buying the hype on Denver's D being just as good this year,  they had some pretty significant losses in FA, and isn't Talib recovering from a gunshot wound? Also not buying that they're all in on Siemian, just because he outplayed Sanchez in TC  doesn't mean he's any good.

Carolina all the way on this one.

Have you heard all the Steelers hype this year? Just yesterday, several NFLN pundits picking them to go to the SB. Sickening...

Go Skins!

Yep, I did - we've been discussing that in the other thread. It's just ridiculous.

Ugh, I dunno.  I've hated them for a while for some reason that I forget.  I'll be rooting against them this year because I have a feeling they may be fighting us for a WC spot in the playoffs.

I hate to say it but I don't even think 10 wins will be a lock to win a wild card spot this year, I believe we have to win the AFC North in order to get in. The AFC is so deep this year, and probably the deepest it has been in terms of the competition for the wild card spots. The rise of Jacksonville & Oakland only add to what would have been a close wild card race already.

Hopefully that hype goes in the same direction as the same hype did for us last year.

I refuse to publicly write down my expectations for us after last year (lol), but I very much agree with you on the outlook of the AFC.  I wouldn't be surprised with the AFC North ending up with two teams tied at 10 wins, with the team that loses the tiebreaker just barely getting the 6th seed in the playoffs.
