[News] Ravens Place Carl Davis, Matt Elam On IR, Sign Devin Hester

19 posts in this topic

As I had predicted, Forsett will be next. This was smart roster management by the Ravens. They had 28 defensive players to only 22 offensive players. Now it is more balanced 26:24. I knew Davis was heading to IR the minute Pierce outplayed him and Davis had an ankle sprain. Pierce is a stud on our front 7 and will prove to be a star in the making. Now, all we need to do is wait for Forsett to sign a new contract. It’s academic at this point.

It's especially the part where Forsett and the FO mutually trusted each other that's positive. Forsett trusted the FO that they are, indeed, going to sign him back, and ther FO trusted Forsett that he won't sign elswhere... In the Money League it's something to note.

Itll be interesting to see which player they decide to bring back. I know injuries play huge apart of it but i wouldnt be surprised if it was Elam over Davis.

Just saw on the NFL Network Justin Forsett's back! Made my whole weekend better!

I have followed him on Twitter for a while now.  He was praying for Baton Rouge in one post.  The next post I saw stated that he's back with the Ravens.  I guess the plot thickened enough for him to return.  Clever use of the IR Ravens.   The NFL.com page had this to say about the move:  "By cutting Forsett, the Ravens were able to carry defensive lineman Carl Davis and safety Matt Elam on their initial 53-man roster. Both Davis and Elam were then put on injured reserve Monday, making them eligible for the one "designated to return" label in the middle of the season (if a player is placed on IR prior to being on the 53-man roster he becomes ineligible for the return designation)."

Both the Ravens and Forsett have tweeted that Forsett has returned to the fold. No information I have seen indicating the difference in contract but contrary to what some have reported, I have seen where it may be more, not less. Will be interesting to see. However, they screwed up my fantasy picks on ESPN because I was hoping West would be the bell cow so I grabbed him in a bunch of leagues thinking I was getting by but to no avail. Gambled and lost on the roster switcheroo.

Its been time to cut Elam- I would've rather kept Camp and axed Elam- regardless, the FO is finally getting it- not wasting 4 years on a high draft pick that simply doesnt pan out (e.g. Kindle, Brown, Brooks, etc...)

AT this point the Ravens need DB's that have experience. If Camp could play S he would be on the team.

When the hell did Carl Davis suffer a significant injury?? And how Matt Elam is still here, nobody knows folks, nobody knows smh.

Carl Davis was hurt in the final preseason game, perhaps you missed it.
Matt Elam was having a great training camp this year and was finally becoming the player we drafted him for, perhaps you missed that as well.

Apparently you didn't see his play during the pre-season and training camp, as the coaches did.

All of this has to do with backup players that will only play in the event of injury. Still it was pretty slick. I'm still surprised about letting Brooks go...he seemed like he was starting to develop. I was disappointed to see that Brown couldn't beat out Orr or McClellan for the ILB job....I didn't expect either Brown or Brooks to be a bust.but I guess that is the case. The bumper crop Ozzie got in this year's draft softens the blow from these two misses.

Maximum of three years should be the team rule. If a player cannot reach a reasonable and acceptable level of play within that time, it is time to move on. Anything more and the team suffers. Players drafted in the first three rounds should be expected to become starters immediately to within first year or two max.

Yes you might at some point regret going with a strategy like this but it also ensures the roster is always moving forward and not becoming stagnant waiting for projects to hit their mark. Projects only look good on paper because people see the end results, but it is the work that goes into getting those results that is misleading.

I guess Webb, Weddle, Lewis and Levine. Well, I agree, those were the best four. And with seven CB's, that's all the safeties they need.

Genius. The wizard does it again. And the fact that there were so many other reasons in play that  it had to be Justin just makes it all the more awesome. I hope he just dominates this year. Him and west will be a killer 1-2 punch with buck catching passes in the backfield. Not to mention the fresh boost they will get from Dixon when he returns hopefully by week 3. Our rb corps should just be called "Medusa"

Nor the fact that he is now on IR and will miss at least the first 6 weeks of the season. What a poor investment he's been.
