Game Day - What's Your Routine?

44 posts in this topic

We all have superstitions and my favorite is wearing my #88 home jersey, the street flag  positionedperfectly, pacing in front of the TV prior to the kickoff and hoping for A RAVENS  first score and final score to win.  BROs.....  Its final here!!!!!!!

I don't understand why everyone here is so incredibly superstitious.

Nothing better to do.

I'm not superstitious, but if your not screaming 'Noon it' at the opposition kicker you should lower your head in shame

Ill try this. I'm ashamed at some of the things I say before an opposing team kicks.

I think my only superstition is to never extend the DVR recording during a tie game when the other team has possession/is at bat.

Like me........Your best verbiage happens for AFC North and NE games.  Its like a narrative from Ray in Good Fellas

I am pumped to have football back.

More so because I am going to the game.

What section?.  Don't forget a good time on Ravens walk prior to the festive ceremonies.  Even the marching band is tuned. The cheerleaders give you a post card of themselves during warmups

I always participate in Purple Fridays, wearing my Ravens polo to work. Then, on gameday, it's usually the same Ravens jersey all year coupled with a salty snack (Cheezits) to stress-eat lol.

Wake up between 8am - 9am. Breakfast. Get dressed and leave my house at 11am to park and walk to my seat in time for pregame activities. Although I'll leave earlier this Sunday expecting more traffic at the gate.

Just pace  around endlessly with a knot in my stomach. Skip church every Sunday ( unless they play on Monday or Thursday night) and watch NFL countdown until game time. I then sit in one spot the entire game only getting up to jump up and down when we score or to pace around if we are behind and running a 2 minute drill or something. Alot of screaming and not much eating unless we have a comfortable lead ( which is almost never) BC I have no appetite. Its sad really. I'm physically invested in this team.

I need to figure out the best way to watch games that aren't televised this year. Usually I drive about 2 hours to my fathers who has Sunday ticket but that's a pain. Does anybody know anything about NFL game pass or can they recommend anything else? I have WiFi iin my apartment so I want to find a way to watch the games live on my tablet. Is game pass my best bet?

I'm convinced the director of my daughter's soccer organization doesn't like football. This is the 3rd year in a row that my daughter's fall soccer league starts on opening day (Sept 11th, this year) but the rest of her games are all on Saturday.  So her 1st game is scheduled for 12:30 this Sunday.  I'm going to miss kickoff and have to follow via radio broadcast and the game threads on this site.

Or you could record it, then bring earplugs and blinders to your daughter's game, only focusing on soccer... Come back and tune in for the 4:00PM broadcast recording LOL

If it wasn't the first game of the season for the Ravens I would do that.  But this is game 1, I gotta know immediately how we're doing.  LOL

I do a few things the same way every time come game time....

1. I wear either my vintage Ray Lewis or Ed Reed jersey

2. I wear black shorts w/Ravens socks

3. My wife makes me a few baked Chicken wings and Sandwiches w/Chips and Sweet Iced Tea

4. I grab one of my Ravens towels

5. Whenever the opposing team goes for a FG...I yell..."Doink!"  and move my head slightly to the left or right at the same time signifying a miss. LOL!!

6. I shut my cell phone off and I don't answer the phone or talk with anyone (except my wife) UNTIL the game is over

Woooooooo!  What a rush!

GO RAVENS!!

Put my Ray Lewis jersey on and sit in front of the TV... like a foot away. No sitting on the couch with my feet up nonsense. Don't drink during the game because I don't want to be distracted. Get drunk afterwards if we lose

Wake up and go to church- doesn't feel right watching the game if I don't. Then eat a nice lunch. Come home, then I usually try to put on whatever jersey corresponds to the one the Ravens are wearing (Excited about Sheldon Price making the team, so that my 27-Rice jersey can be repurposed), I don't wear it to church because I'm in Pittsburgh. Then I sit and pet my dog pretty much the whole time to stay relaxed. Then watch the Seahawks game with my Seahawks fan girlfriend if it doesn't conflict.

You can get NFL Sunday Ticket without having DirecTV

I usually wake up, grab a coffee from Dunkin' Donuts, go to church, come home and read NFL news until kickoff. My son now has soccer on Sunday mornings but I'll be out well before game time.

The year we won the Super Bowl I had a certain red mini football that I held onto during the games. I'd sit when we were on offense, and stand as if I were the middle linebacker during defensive plays. I've long lost the red football. But I have a bunch of random superstitions....

I usually watch the Ravens games alone because conversation stresses me out. I make sure I'm not wearing any colors of the opposing team during the game. I position the remote control in a certain way on the sofa. Everything in the living room must be kept the way it is until the game is over, or out of hand. I only eat during halftime. I do text a lot during games though. But I avoid talking trash to friends (all my friends are not Ravens fans) as it is bad karma. I'm big on avoiding bad karma. I also avoid predicting the outcome of games. I keep it very vanilla when asked ("Tough matchup. If we can establish the run we should be OK"). When my son was an infant, I use to hold him during key drives of the game for good luck. I shoot hoops on my sons Fisher Price rim during commercials to ease stress. Making sure the last shot I take before the next snap is all net.

The list goes on... Kind of sad actually.

1) Bought a Suggs Nike jersey right before the 2012 season, so now I wear it for every game

2) Must see the opening kickoff. I could miss the entire game but as long as I see the opening kickoff I feel we have a chance

3) New this year: Down a Ravens can of Bud Light per half. Standby for future results

Little off topic, but I haven't watched a full season of Ravens football because I live out of state. Finally bought the Sunday Ticket package without the dish, and now I can watch every.single.game. I'm SO happy

I'm very superstitious. There are games when I stop watching if we are losing or are even close to winning but have a chance to lose. I turn immediately to these boards to follow along. If I see a ton of posts in rapid succession I know something good has happened and I turn the TV back on. Man I am a psychological mess when the game is on. But if we win, I spend 3 hours reading all about it, gloating on message boards, insulting the Steelers etc. I can't relax during game day. I am stressed and wouldn't change my routine period. I am so happy the next day after a win. But, if we lose, I don't visit our website for a couple of days so I can grieve in peace.
