Yeah, that's how I see it. I felt like my post was starting to get bloated enough so I didn't delve into returning kicks and punts (not that I expect our opponents to punt an awful lot........), but if the game's in the balance or we're trying to mount a comeback or something, I'd rather have someone who's 1) less likely to fumble the game away (literally) and; 2) still has the experience to know when to cut his losses and take a fair catch, when to make a small gain on the return or finding the right lane and being more likely to turn that small gain into something more respectable.

That kinda thing won't make the SportsCenter Top 10 and simply making the right decision won't win him plaudits in the post-game threads here in RT, but it can still have a big impact on the game.

And we had no one to do that, except Campanaro.  I'd be curious to see if Hester ever even entered the picture if Campanaro was healthy.  It sounds like health, and not the double fumble the other night, is what ultimately did him in.  Sounds like he was playing hurt that night.

Yes, he was - tweaked calf. That boy's muscles are overworked I think.

i think campanaro played hurt out of desperation in the last game..

As much as i made fun of danny amendola in the past, he's like an iron man compared to camp. I just dont think he was built for this sport.

That's hard to say. Hester's experience alone probably makes him better as a designated PR than Camp, but I'd say the FO felt he wasn't up to $4 million better. Though at this point I guess a healthy Campanaro is like a classy Eagles fan - you can hypothesise on it all you want but there's nothing concrete enough to actually make a decision on.

More just curiosity at this point.  As you said, you can't make any predictions on Campanaro.  All that matters it that Hester is here now and should provide us with a stable returner option - something that we certainly didn't have.

I don't see Hester on the roster at BR.com.  Who is getting cut to make room?

It was mentioned somewhere that Elam and Davis would go to the IR to make room for Forsett and Hester.

It's not officially official yet. It will be tomorrow.

Goodell is a true dictator.

I'll just blame that.

Could have sworn I saw that offices were closed today but maybe I'm just crazy.

They must be keeping staff working through waivers - it's pretty critical time considering the number of transactions made over last 2-3 days.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the 4M is with bonus ? What his cap money ? They made like 1,7 M room by cutting Forsett and resigning him guaranteed money for 2016 probably a 1 year deal and 2nd in option. Thats a good deal imo this year will be his last.

Not super pleased to have none of our young options - Campanaro, Reynolds - be effective options and basically be forced into signing an aging vet. But, hey, we probably don't have to hold our breath as to if he actually will catch the ball.

If I was to guess, Hester might not add anything as a WR the way Campanaro would have... I guess this move is more of a referendum on Campanro's health and career :(

I feel a lot more comfortable with Hester out there. He's a proven returner and still has the vision for it. I like the move. Hopefully he still has some left in the gas tank.

I agree and as long as Hester can give us 75% of what Jacoby Jones gave us I would be jumping up and down. I'm tired of starting at our own 15 yard line. I miss always being at like the 35 yard line after every return and knowing anything could happen on kick returns.

I wasnt on board with signing Hester at first, but starting to like it more and more.

After getting a full preseasons look at the other options - it would have been nerve-wracking every punt and kickoff just anticipating whether we'd catch the kick or muff it away and spot our opponent 3-7 points every time.

At the very least we're getting an experienced vet who has sure hands and sound decision making. At best we're getting a dynamic play maker that can turn a game on a single play. I'll be pleased with the former, and ecstatic with the latter.

I'm just worried about his foot injury. Breaking bones in the big toe can affect his stability a lot, even after it heals it still won't feel the same as it was before. I think he'll bring value in the ability to cleanly field punts, but I wouldn't expect many homeruns from him this year.

Hoping Devin is healthy and remains so. It will be cool to have an X Factor again. It will also be nice to not have to turn away from the tv when we are receiving a punt.  lol

If Devin is on the field on offense expect reverses on 3rd down plays. Trestman needs to be really creative in this game. This is a game that will define our entire season in my view. A loss to the Bills will suck the oxygen out of this young team.

Agreed. A week one victory is absolutely crucial to set the tone for the season. Esp considering we went 4-0 in the preseason- a win on opening day at the bank will really get the ball rolling and give us some real momentum. We also have a pretty favorable schedule the first half of the season so IMO we need to come away with atleast 6 W's to seal a playoff seed or to have a shot at the division title.

Precisely. If we don't take advantage of the schedule, we'll be under tremendous pressure the rest of the season.

I don't think he sees the field on offense to be honest. BP and Moore will likely be those gadget guys. Hester was only signed for one reason only, in my opinion.

In spread sets of hester still has the speed then that alone warrants some usage, but only if we desperately need a fast score.

if we start 0-2 you can start dreaming of myles garrett...

I understand what you mean, but I disagree, respectfully of course.  With so many new faces, this team may need some time to find its chemistry.  Would I like to win week 1 at home, of course.  But I wont think it will ruin our entire season.  Worried that Doom isn't playing now but maybe we can see a young guys step up

That's how I see it. Its a shame because the kid has a natural talent, catching a ball comes so naturally for him, he can do it in any fashion against pro competition, but he is too frail.
