[News] Ravens' 2016 Roster Cutdown Rumor Mill

216 posts in this topic

I don't understand the need for someone like Devin Hester. Seriously tho, the league is trying to phase out kick returns and CAMP is a more than capable punt returner. If we sign Hester that means we have to drop another player off our 53 man roster. I would leave a spot for Peirce because we know that Brandon Williams will be a free agent next year and maybe we found a diamond in the rough in pierce. I like what i see from him.

Yeah true but l don't know if l trust Camp doing punts and kick returns because he might fumble during the season and we can't have that.

We don't have the roster space for Hester who is years removed from what he once was. Let Moore do the KRs since he had good burst and Camp to do PR.
If all else fails just have them down in the end zone and take it at the 25. All the returns this preseason and only 1 made it past the 25.

Even now, the Campanaro fan club refuses to admit he's a bust. Face it people, he's not worth keeping even for the 1.5 games per season that he is healthy.

Their trying to phase out the kickoff...but they made a rule change that EVERYONE is exploiting, kicking off short of the goal line....causing more returns...Therefore we need someone competent back there...Whether or not that is Hester is a different question.

I would have had Brooks get reps at PR duties during pre-season, he has the speed, and not a starter, so why not get the most out of his speed...

The most important aspect of being a PR isn't speed. It's being able to track and catch the ball. That does not seem to be one of Brooks' strengths as a S, and catching a punt is much more difficult than catching a pass.

here are the few surprises that I foresee for the final 53 man roster.

Campanaro will be cut, Carl Davis will be IRed, Devin Hester will be signed, Pierce will make the 53 man roster.

I'd prefer to wait for Cordarrelle Patterson to be cut.
Younger, better receiver than Campanaro, and better return man than either Campanaro or Hester (at this point in his career).

Also Tate from Cinci is a possible free agent choice.

I don't think the ship has sailed on Campanaro just yet, because they won't sign Hester before week 1 because as a vet, then they owe him his salary for the whole year. If they wait until week 2 they can pay him week to week so if he turns out to be worse than Camp, they can get rid of him. So Camp is good until week 2 anyway, however, if he comes up lame, or bobbles some more kicks, or is totally unproductive in the pass game, he could be swapped out for Hester. Unfortunately for Camp, this was the wrong year to be injured or to fumble because the WR group is so deep, his catching ability doesn't play as much into his roster spot as it would have say last year. Love Camp and am one of his fan club as merryjman refers to us Campanaro supporters, but he is far from a bust and if he gets cut, he will make us sorry we didn't stick with him. Eventually he will break out of this injury thing and when he does, we will hate seeing him in a different colored uniform.

I agree with Pierce...beyond that I think you missed on the rest.

If this is for a 33-year old return specialist who was injured pretty much all of last year... that's just cruel.

Agreed. Not interested at all.

Would rather give the time to Camp despite the one time in his career that he fumbled. Jacoby was on the team for 3 years and we watched him fumble a game changing kick off against the Texans...

Campanaro IMHO is gone. Did not show enough plays or do enough to put to rest injury concerns.

Looking at Hester is most likely as an "in case we need him" scenario. Hester would need to be more than just a returner to be signed asap.

I would expect to see Chris Moore getting more PR/KR opps. We all know they could easily throw Webb or SSSr. back there without much issue, minus potential for injury.

Absolutely.
Just recently, Harbs said that the returner would NOT be just a returner. They had to earn a roster spot doing something else in addition to returning kicks and punts.
Camp IN, Hester OUT.

Said it on another post Pierce makes it as insurance if Brandon leaves next year, as Pierce being 6 feet tall and 339 pounds is a prototypical NT, and he like Brandon is a space eater....I really hope we can get Brandon to stay because i just love his game, but players want that 1 big payday, and we hardly ever have the kind of money to match teams that have tons of cap space.....

They need a go-to slot guy, given the TE situation. Perhaps Camp's limited PT in the preseason was by design (and, of course, he was nicked up, anyway).

Well, better return man, for sure, but his productivity at receiver has taken a nosedive the last few years.

So far it appears the Ravens have made no attempt to extend Williams... can't tell if they have given up but it looks like another KO situation in the minds of the FO.

I would keep Josh Johnson, only to use for trade bait, some teams are hurting at QB's, like the Vikes, and even Philly with Wentz being dinged up, plus IMO he has been one of the better backups in the entire league in this years camps....

it's way too early to say that......the same was thought for JT....relax we have some time.

After hearing Falcons fans trash him for his poor decision making regarding when to bring the ball out of the endzone and seeing it myself in a few games, I'm a little unenthused about a Hester signing. Return-men fall-off fast once they get too old; we all watched it with Jacoby, and it's probably happening to Hester.

No Hester...IMHO. He performs one function and we need a Player that is Multi-positional or Multi-functional. Jacoby Jones was a WR/KR. Hester has never really been a full time WR.
You have Campanaro or take the flier on Reynolds. You can occasionally use Webb, or maybe Jeremy Butler has that kind of talent.
May be that they can find some one after these Final Cuts. Dexter McCluster was released and he has some rubber left on his tires. Possibly give Justin Hunter a tryout.

i find it real hard to believe we cant find a return man on our current roster because i'd really like to keep that roster spot for a current guy we really need.
