The final cuts

I agree about players getting talked up during camp but in this case not only was he talked up but he also showed up in every single preseason game and made play after play after play that we actually got to see for ourselves. The playmaking was undeniable which is something that Harbs constantly harped on. Don't get me wrong though I understand the move.. And like you said he could always be brought back later. Heck maybe even before weeks end knowing the way the roster gets shook up before week 1. Once again he just fell victim to the numbers game at this time. I think somebody will probably pick him up seeing as how he was the leading receiver in all of preseason but its possible.

Chance of us retaining Butler on the practice squad are approximately zero percent. Meet the next #2 WR for the Patriots.

frankly, perriman has shown nothing. Butler is probably a better WR than perriman at this moment.

Perriman has more upside than Butler and is The Ravens first round pick. Probably is not a for sure thing  and it's no denying that Perriman has the potential to bring more to The Ravens offense than Butler.

Watched the pre season? How about last year when he actually played? the eye test said that this guy is a player. I'd see more reason to cut campanaro or perriman than butler. When one of those two is out for the season this will come back and bite them in the you know what.

Wasn't all that impressed with him last season. Looked like the 3rd WR on a team that had its top like 2-3 guys on IR, meaning he was about the 6th best WR on the team (sound familiar?)

Camp probably gets cut when Hester signs anyway.

As for the eye test, I never trust the eyes of fans. Most of the time, they don't know what they are looking at.

Its laughable that Jeremy Butler is the kind of impact player that's going to come back to bite a team. OK to like or even love a player, but 6th receivers aren't guys that teams lose sleep over not being able to win games without, regardless of injuries. This is the NFL folks.

The Patriots are already set at receiver and I wouldn't be surprised if Butler makes the practice squad again even though I believe could be nice addition for The Chargers.

On Butler ... There goes my "you pick the team" already ...

While he's played well, i guess it is about roles and ST in particular that rules the day when it comes to final roster decisions.

People can tend to get fired up about pet favorites at the backend of the roster, but in the end, that's what they are - back of the roster players. We'll regret this if we do sustain significant injuries at WR and, given some of the injury history there, was why I thought we'd keep him.

Still, I will be very surprised if he is picked up by someone and turns into even a #3 WR wherever he lands.

Being right is clearly more important than wishing your own team well ....

Problem is... nobody cares about this moment. This moment doesn't do anything for us, because there's at least 4 other guys on this roster that are better than Butler.

What does Hester have to do with Butler? Let me guess... Butler's a stud kick returner now too huh? Lets just cut Johnson and Mallet, and Butler can be our backup QB next week.

By mid-season, he should be outplaying Flacco.

I just hate how guys like matt elam and arthur brown can have their scrub asses in baltimore for 4 years, show they cant play a lick and still are given chances when UDFA who flat out ball whenever thye have the chance are treated like jokes.

Coaches see everything you do and everything you don't.

Not very surprising, you have to contribute on special teams to make the roster as a bubble player. Some people on here don't understand that.

The Ravens wouldn't be interested in Hester if he didn't show anything in his work out . You can be 33 and still fast. Ted Ginn who is 31 now is still fast.

C'mom man, I don't like the Butler cut either, but were still Ravens fans. Let's hop Butler either makes it to our practice squad or signs with an NFC team that we don't play this year or next.

Enlighten me ... name the UFDAs that we've brought in, who have played well but we still didn't give them a chance, that went on to another team to be an impact player? Not saying they don't exist, I just would like to know who they are.

I'll say it... they pretty much don't exist.

Its like the old "they're too good to go the PS...somebody will poach them" argument. Historically, it just doesn't hold up.

this obsession with a kick returner is getting on my nerves.

One thing for sure The Ravens won both their super bowl games when they had a great kick returner on the roster. If Hester or any player  is  a great kick returner then that's a plus for The Ravens in my opinion.

Mine too. In hindsight I should've seen it coming, now I'm kicking myself.

I suppose technically. Though the Steelers also added and cut him a few times as well. He bounced around quite a bit before he became good.

Also, the fact that the only guy we can reference is like 15 years ago kind of sums it up.
