The final cuts

Noteworthy players not cut:

Matt Elam: (see previous post)

Jerraud Powers: I can only assume the coaching staff really likes Jerraud Powers based on his experience in the league and performance in practice, since he looked bad in preseason.

James Hurst: I guess they value Hurst's versatility, even though he looked bad at guard and we already know he's bad at T.

Chris Carter: Typical Harbaugh special teams move.

Michael Pierce: Just happy he made the roster. He could be our starting NT next year after B.Williams leaves if he continues to outplay C.Davis.

Noteworthy cut/waived/IR'd players:

Justin Forsett: I actually picked him as a dark-horse cut entering TC simply based on age, salary, declining performance, and competition at the position. However, it's still surprising given that only West and Allen are healthy right now.

Terrance Brooks: Solid tackler, but always seems just a second late from making a bigger play. There's probably better safeties on waivers right now, or maybe they start training one of our many corners to play safety like they did with Canady in game 4.

Jeremy Butler: Like many others, I thought he earned a roster spot for sure, and I'm sad to see him go.

Victor Ochi: Not surprised to see him cut, just disappointed. I would much rather have him on the team instead of Chris Carter, since Ochi has a lot more upside as an edge rusher, but I guess Harbaugh's love of special teams contributors gave Carter the edge. Our ST did look very pedestrian in preseason though, so maybe this move will make a difference.

Michael Campanaro: Not really surprised. He was on the bubble entering TC, and he really didn't show anything to deserve a roster spot. The only reason it was a question is because the P/K returner position is very weak, and he had received a lot of hype based on his athleticism over the years. However, I don't see why they didn't just waive him.

well, when you have a million picks you can afford to go pick happy in one position lol.

It's true you could but just like the 49ers a few years back sometimes you should package those picks to better yourself. Part of me thought that about us this year but with the way Ozzie crushed the 4th round he proved me wrong which is why I trust Ozzie anytime I question something I look stupid which is why I give him the benefit of the doubt everytime

BTW, those salty about the cuts we made just look at this and remember Ozzie does know what he's doing. If Ozzie went and re-signed McPhee and he had this knee injuries happen here, people would say the same thing they say about Pitta--we signed another guy with injury issues and gave him fat money and now Ozzie would look bad again. I recall during FA I mentioned being worried about McPhee's knees and while I regret losing him, this does give credence to our decision to let him [McPhee] walk.

Bears placed OLB Pernell McPhee (knee) on the reserve/PUP list.

One of the reasons the Ravens didn't re-sign McPhee was due to a history of knee problems. They've reappeared in Chicago, relegating McPhee to a rotational role last season, yet he still piled up 53 tackles and six sacks. The loss of McPhee further damages a pass defense that is as weak as any in the sport. Per reserve/PUP rules, McPhee will be eligible to return in Week 7.

Sorry man but McPhee has been a beast for Chicago. One injury doesn't change that.

You mean his 53 tackles and 6 sacks which tied for 47th place. I wouldn't call that a beast performance

As the paragraph reads he was a rotational player last year and starts this year on the PUP.

I think anyone and everyone would have wanted to keep Perneliphant. But at over $7 mil. a year it's obvious why he isn't a Raven.

Yeah if he aint finishing hes in their face or putting hands on them. Its hard for the offense to build up a rythym when the oline is getting blown up.

Anyway back on topic Im sad to see Forsett cut, hes a class act but sometimes you can do everything right and it still comes down to the business side of things.

Honestly called the Fotsett release and glad they cut the cord despite being a stand up guy.

As @JoeyFlex5 said the Ochi and Butler releases are disappointing. I trust our FO because they do get a larger sample size.

Think im done with the Campanero train...seriously???injured again ::sigh::

There's always a reason, and money isn't always it. They know so much more than we do.

I say we let the fans draft and coach. Cue circus music.

Hated to see Butler get cut. He was in and out of his cuts quickly and caught the ball. And he was young , I think that was something we've needed for a long time! Not at all surprised to see Reynolds get cut. I wanted us to take an ILB with that draft pick, namely Scooby Wright or Tyler Matakevich. Both players made the 53 man cut for their respective teams: Cleveland and Pittsburgh......YUCK!

Campanaro and Reynolds are the Ravens poor man's version of Welker and Edelman, which isn't working.

Butler should have made the cut and ran with Moore and Perriman for the next decade.

Butler was cut do to the same reason that got him playing time last year. Injuries. No he wasn't hurt and it wasn't due to a injury problem this year, it all stems from last season. If Perriman and SSS never get hurt, Butler is probably still here as a young guy(ultimately think he'll make the PS). Perriman never getting hurt and performing the way the team wanted would have cancelled the need of going out to get Wallace which would have opened up at least 1 WR spot. If SSS never got hurt he probably walks away from the game like he said he would. Which would have opened up another spot.

So if those two injuries never occur, Butler is probably be right in the thick of the WR corp with Perriman and Aiken being #1 and #2. Then Butler and Moore who have both been impressive thus far. If everything remained the same with Camp, you can cut him and still bring in a guy like Hester who could handle the RS role until Reynolds is ready.

But the injuries from last year still had an impact on this team because there is no way you cut SSS or Wallace, but without injury those guys probably aren't here this year. I  hope Butler clears waiver and is added to the PS or is signed back to the roster after Elam is placed on IR because I think he could be a long term piece to this offense, especially if Aiken walks next year.

Probably means that Elam going to IR opens up this spot.

Precisely what the plan was I believe... Elam couldn't be placed on IR prior to the 53 man roster if we needed him to come back this year. He had to be on the 53 man roster.

I can't believe Harbaugh cut Justin Forsett! He is a complete back. Good vision and speed. Excellent pass blocker. Who on this team is better? NO BODY!!! John Harbaugh. No BODY!!!

um, Forsett is far from a complete back, he's got below average speed for the position, he's not a particularly natural receiver, watching him in on short yardage situations is so cringe worthy, outside of that he doesn't bring anything that we don't have with the 3 we kept aside from experience, but to be fair he doesn't have too much more starting experience than what we've got. Should he have made it over Buck? I think so, but the FO likes his receiving ability and youth.

I'm assuming you mean Forsett. I don't believe you should be so proud to call this cut. It will prove out to be a bad decision by John Harbaugh. The only thingI ask is who is a better running back on this team/ No body.

Dixon, West. Those 2 are better.

um. I don't know who you've been watching but he has excellent speed, a sprinter in high school, good receiving ability, great vision, and excellent pass blocker. Do you have TV? The games are on it with replays to prove this. Justin Forsett is the most underrated back in the NFL and has been his entire career. This is the first time in my long tenure as a Ravens fan I am so upset over a cut I can't keep it in. I love Forsett as a back. I JUST DON'T KNOW ENOUH ABOUT FOOTBALL.

Don't get too upset yet Stan, it looks like he may be back.   There's something up their sleeve on this one.

I'm talking about an all pro back. Look at his accomplishments when he was GIVEN A CHANCE. I have followed this player his entire career and this is the first time he was given a chance to start and made the pro bowl.

Can someone who is clearly smarter than me, explain Campanaro's situation? Is he off the team or on? I don't know what an injury waive means. Can he be picked up by another team? Can he make the PS?

Never an All-Pro... only went to one Pro-Bowl...
