The final cuts

907 posts in this topic

Some of the major cuts I could see coming are campanaro, klm, urban, and hurst.

I think butler gets a spot over camp. I think pierce earned a spot over klm, and if harbaugh doesn't get too emotional and doghouse henry then I think he's a better choice than urban based on realized vs unrealized potential. Tavon young should probably be the primary nickel corner if not the 2nd choice. I think Brooks sticks around a little longer but mostly thanks to the Elam injury.

Not sure about Urban.

He has made some plays.

He's batted some balls which has its value but I've seen very little else from him

He looks like a man sapped of all athleticism, it's understandable, but we need roster spots

I think Carl Davis gets cut, since he seems to be under performing since having a decent debut. Like, if it comes down to keeping Davis or making room for some extra CB depth (someone like Canady), then Carl Davis goes. He might have been safe if Pierce hadn't come on strong. Pierce can run stop like Davis, and get a bit more pressure.

I would suggest Powers as a possible surprise cut, but given our recent history at CB, I don't know.

We are all assuming Pitta and Williams will be ready week 1. If one of them isn't will we be forced to use one spot on FA?

At TE, we'll still have Gilmore and in a pinch, Brown. Plus Juice can play TE. We're good enough there to get by until Williams, Pitta, and/or Waller returns.

Yes but it's not the matter of who could cover, it's the matter of one roster spot which Brown most likely wouldn't have.

I'm just trying to find a place for Victor Ochi somehow.

i dont see urban or hurst getting cut. KLM & camp i agree, i want the ravens to find away to keep those young pass rushers like carter and ochi.

I think they would IR Davis rather than cut him. The ankle injury could definitely give impetus to make such a move if it's bad.

Agree with Powers as a surprise cut, though looking at it objectively, I think the only reason it would be surprising is because we keep hearing the coaching staff is high on him despite looking awful on the field in games 1 and 2. If that was some no-name rookie UDFA playing the way he was playing no one would bat an eye if he was cut.

Another dark-horse cut is Campanaro, though maybe it wouldn't be that surprising, since he has been injury prone, plays a very crowded/deep position, and made an ugly kick return today. Everyone viewed him as a bubble player when TC started anyway.

Yeah, I've never understood the hype on Campanaro. It's worse than the hype on Tandon Doss! He is not worth a roster spot.

Camp is different from Doss. From what I have read the coaches know Camp is probably one of the most talented receivers on the roster and the fact that they actually gave him days off not only to keep him healthy but because he practice so well makes me skeptical about him getting cut.

The Ravens also like him alot as their punt returner and I think he's a better fit there than kick returner

Carl Davis is a third round pick and this is only his second season ..He hasnt been impressive but not all that bad. The Ravens are for sure going to keep him around unless out of the blue a team trust to trade for him giving The Ravens a offer they can't refuse.

I'm not sure if Powers will be cut unless some other solid nickel cornerback is available then not sure that happens

Ochi has value. He plays a little out of control in general but he has the gift of being able to get under a tackle, bend and win the edge. He really gets off the ball in a hurry.

He also has ability to push his man back into the quarterback. If he could work up a spin move and really understand the nuances of setting moves up he really can be dangerous.

Judon together with Ochi could be a holy terror a year from now. Practice squad for Ochi seems too big a risk given the value a straight pass rusher.

Tough to see Hurst making the team in my eyes. He's the 3rd tackle at best. Lewis is likely the backup LT.

I think they'd need to keep 9 OLineman in order for Hurst to make it.

I would have thought we would have seen Lewis at LT if he was the backup, but he was strictly at G last night.  Lewis hasn't been at LT since game 1, and that wasn't a long stint either.

I mean maybe, but he's also competing for the starting LG job, which he may very well have won. So he would need to spend more time there.

No different than Yanda is probably the backup RT, yet he never plays there.

We're also talking about a veteran who has been around the block compared to a 4th round rookie.  I think Lewis could very well be the LT, but I don't think he's locked that up.  I think Hurst has a good chance solely due to the numbers, but not ruling him completely in either.

If they want him as punt returner he is on the team.  Really I don't see who else would get that job.  Unless they get a punt returner from another teams cuts I see Campanaro making the team.

Whatever the roster looks like on Saturday, I expect a decent number changes by September 14. I think there will be several "for nows".  It wouldn't even surprise me to see us keep Johnson for Week 1 then replace him with a o-lineman or CB afterwards. Johnson could be very valuable running the scout team before the Bills game.

I don't think they keep Johnson for week 1 because that would mean his salary is guaranteed for the year.  If the intention is to let him go, they're going to do it now and let him latch on elsewhere.

I'm on the Cut Campanaro Bandwagon.
Don't see him with value considering Moore has looked better, Butler has looked better.
I'm in agreement that Reynolds hasn't looked spectacular as a returner, but no worse than Campanaro in my opinion.
I still think a Punt retuner will be available as a free agent anyway.

Well, if an injury happens, they'd shift things around, much in the way Yanda is probably the backup RT with injury.

If Stanley were out, they may like a line of Lewis/Urschel on the left side over Hurst/Lewis. Same way if Wagner gets hurt, they'd probably kick Yanda out to RT and insert Urschel or Jensen at RG.

While not universally correct, I think we emphasize getting our five best lineman out there, regardless of position. We see other teams do this as well.

Here's a potential roster wrinkle for Ravens: free agent kick returner Devin Hester worked out for team today, per sources.

Welp bye camp and Reynolds (to PS)

And just like that Campanaro's days may be numbered. This is also not a good sign for Keenan Reynolds.

Yep my thoughts exactly. Reynolds to PS and Campanaro will be gone if Hester is signed.
