Doom officially out. That's a huge blow to the pass rush/defense.

It is being reported that he suffered a setback in his recovery. So this may end up being a multi week absence. What a way to start the new season. Right where we left off the last one with injuries.

Whos the 2nd part of their running game? From what I've been reading, McCoy is going to take the bulk of the load. Tyrod?

Yes Tyrod...

This I agree with. I understand waiting awhile after the season and hoping the issue would heal on it's own but I feel he should have had the surgery long before he did. He wouldn't be missing all of camp, preseason and now games if he had it taken care of sooner.

Suffered a setback apparently, so not sure if it really has anything to do with the timing of the surgery.

Plus, its not uncommon for doctors to recommend rest and rehab for weeks or even months for an ailment, only to determine that those recovery techniques didn't work and surgery is the best course of action.

I seriously doubt that he or the organization would have been so complacent that they simply forgot to have surgery or delayed it for a lengthy period of time without having already had a plan in place for it.

Yeah, with him being ruled out so early in the week, you'd expect multi-week absence at this point.

I think that's a bit of an exaggeration.  Doom is our best pure pass rusher, but we're also a lot deeper at the position this year than we were last year.  Z, Suggs, Judon and Correa should do a fine job there for the next couple of weeks (with McClellan filling in on run downs).

If this carries over for another 1-2 weeks, I'll start to be a little more concerned, but he did call this a minor setback.

Well, given that he was ruled out 5 full days before the game is played, I would certainly says its a concern for week 2 at the very least at this point.

Typically guys who are closer to being active get some limited practice time in the week of.

Not usually a pessimist but Doom is our best pass rusher, not too confident about winning now

Doom's been out all spring, it was a reach to think he would play. I wouldn't think the game hinges on him playing or not.

not liking Sizzle? or Judon? Maybe Z. Smith?

What's up with Doom? Not practicing again. Za'Darius back though

IF he isn't practicing today, he will either not suit up or play a very limited role in terms of snaps. I doubt he plays though...

He had his surgery way later than he probably should have.. Gonna take the veteran awhile to get back. I wish he would have had it earlier.

Would also point out that, according to Doom, he had the surgery back in February. So its not like he was waiting around all offseason and waited until May or June for surgery. Fans didn't hear about it until June, but the surgery was done several months before that.

Well its a great opportunity for Zadarius and Judon to excel I think.

While I want to agree that all depends on several if's but there is a good possibility of that.

Let Moore and Perriman play before we call them better than Torrey

Though it's a downer, I'm more than confident with Za'Darius, Judon and KC leading the way opposite of Sizz. I'm SO excited to see what Judon can do. Get well soon, Doom.

Doom out isn't what we want, but isn't the end of the world. Would expect not only to see Smith and Judon, but McClellan in there too. Actually I'd expect him to be the "starter" opposite Suggs. I'm pretty sure that's what the depth chart would indicate. I know Judon had a nice preseason, but it will be interesting to see how much they utilize him in this game, given that he is a late-round rookie.

This game will be as much about containment as it will be about pass rush. Gotta keep TT in the pocket and not give him a clear option to run.

I think our pass rush will hold up well with sizzle zds and judon. We'll need our DTs to get some push in the middle though for them to be effective. I think jernigan guy and urban are the keys up front. Also proper scheming, we gotta get some exotic looks in the nickel and dime and make use of levine orr and correa in the blitz

The Doom absence COULD be a blessing in disguise. It'll be nice to get the young guys out there and see what they can do in a real game.

I've made it clear how I feel about urban, and it's not good lol. However, he's still one of the guys in the rotation and a guy we REALLY need to step up, so I'm still gonna say he's a key.

Also, facing a 6'1" qb suddenly makes him an asset, You can line him up on the side tyrod usually looks for the safe throw and basically take it away completely, there will be only touch passes to his side if he sees the field.

Ditto. I expect Mosley to catch Tyrod on blitz at least once though.

I think 2 players could play pretty big roles in the game against the Bills.

1.  Urban, specifically, could be very effective against Tyrod because of his height and ability to get into the passing lane.   Tyrod is short and struggled throwing over the middle a lot more than he does when he steps back or rolls out of the pocket.  If Urban can get in his face, and Jernigan/Guy/Williams can get some solid push up the middle, then I could see it causing issues for

2.  Obviously the defensive contain will be important, and I can definitely see Levine playing QB spy for a lot of the game.  The only issue with that is I'm not sure who covers Clay, but my guess is Weddle, Webb or Powers get that assignment.

I'm gonna make a very bold prediction here... Correa is gonna make a play. Whether he lights up somebody in a dump off or a designed screen or a scramble, or gets a sack in a blitz, or hell even a int... I just have a feeling that he was being used in a far-too-vanilla fashion in preseason and now with proper scheming he may make some noise.

Suggs and Judon should bring adequate pressure, but Doom was very important for containment. To stop Tyrod you can stop his legs first and he becomes less effective as a pass rusher. I now doubt our ability to contain him.

IDK..... I think I might like those young legs chasing T rod.   lol     We'll be fine.

Sucks that Doom is out but it should help to have Sizzle, Judon and Smith out there. I think Judon is going to have a much bigger role on this team than anticipated. He's been good against starters and has wrecked back ups. I think he's deserved some PT and I think he can make a splash game one.

If that is true I will happily retract my statement. Thanks.

If Doom is the difference between us winning or losing any game this year we're already screwed. This year is about being multiple. Doom is a piece but he's far from a lynchpin.
