[News] Late For Work 8/31: Final Ravens 53-Man Roster Predictions

40 posts in this topic

There is one that may surprise us all by making the roster - Michael Pierce. He's just a football player in every sense. He's stout against the run, and relentless in pursuit too and pretty strong I might add. He'll be the surprise this season imo.

Perhaps, but I'm having a tough time figuring out who's roster spot he takes in order to make it.

Not sure myself, but I won't be surprised if Pierce makes it.

Has anyone ever seen a final roster prediction that was 100% correct?

No. But it appears that waiting is the best option.  I'm sure most of us had Watson and Kaufusi as locks on our final 53.

Kapron Lewis-Moore maybe?

Couldn't agree more with you. Wait till the last minute to make the prediction. At least then you have the best shot at predicting the final 53. A tough task every year, but more so this year.

I guess Wesley is playing well. I never thought Hurst was playing all that poorly, especially for an undrafted player who kind'a got thrown in there with the Monroe injuries. Mostly known for rolling up on Joe, but wasn't getting beat horribly, usually going up against the other teams best rusher. Hope I'm wrong, but still think Camp is a waste of a spot.

Kennan Reynolds is a better player than he's being given credit for 1 pass in how many snaps? Not a fair way to judge his ability as a receiver. And how can he be judged as a kick/punt returner if Campanaro is always on the field? You have to give the man a decent chance - not "oh, we're winning by enough, put Reynolds in" - before you pass judgement on his talents - which he has, if anyone gives him a chance to show them.

He'll get a lot of time this upcoming game. So far, he looks like a practice squad guy, though. He may be safe there, too.

You are assuming that the only measurement of a player is how they perform in the preseason. That's not remotely true. In fact, it's probably not even the biggest piece.

The coaching staff gets to see him practice those things EVERY SINGLE DAY. They've got a very large sample size of what he is capable of at this point.

Remember, the coaching staff sees 100% of the things you see AND 100% of the things you don't see.

There is no better group of people on this planet to determine if Reynolds is good enough to make this football team than the coaching staff. If he's not being "given" opportunities, its because he hasn't EARNED them.

Surprised Correa was humbled from the preseason games after all of the talk of him tearing it up during OTAs.

Yea they really hyped him up. Since there is no contact in OTAs it is really difficult to access how a player is doing. This is especially true will Linebackers, DL and OL. i think of a lot of that praise was directed toward his mental capacity. It seems like he really picked up the defense pretty well and knew his assignments. That not as easy a task as it may seem. I mean Art Brown hasn't been able to pick it up in his three years here. I am not an expert on the guy but Ive heard that he didn't play much inside in college, which will take some getting used to. Things are much more crowded in the middle and it takes some time to learn to instinctively read and react to your keys with all of that traffic.

You have to earn those snaps. You have to get open for the qb to want to throw to you. You have to prove yourself a safe catcher before you can return punts etc.

I think the long run on undrafted FA's making the roster was as much a result of poor early round drafting and injuries than anything. Starting back with Kindle and Cody, it seems like at least 1 or 2 of them are complete busts or injured every year and that allows a undrafted guy to sneak in. Mostly they are fringe role players. Tucker, is obviously the exception being extremely solid if not top tier. Orr has really come on, and could be good also. Is there a list of all the guys in the past years who have made it?

Yeah, I know he's gonna make the team, but can anyone tell me why Kendrick Lewis deserves a spot on the roster? Hopefully he will prove me wrong, but I personally have seen nothing from this guy since we signed him. He flat out looked bad at times last year. I can only guess the coaches see something that I don't...

Veteran depth at a position where you need it. He's not a good starting safety, but he's basically an average, maybe slightly below average safety in this league, which makes him a pretty good backup.

Plus, nobody has done enough to overtake him for that role.

The Ravens played him sparingly. He will burst into action during the season/

OK lets see, can anyone guess the PS (my guess)- Pierce, Will Davis, Brennan, Lewis- Moore, Renolds, Canady, and a RB if all 4 stay healthy (Allen).
So I think 53 straight off the depth chart Teams 1 and 2 from this page-
Offense 26- 7 WR, 3RB, 1FB, 3TE , 2QB, 10OL (4 overs- Dixon, Capanaro, Moore and Butler)
Defense 24- 6 DL, 8LB, 5 CB, 5 S ( 2 overs Judon and Levine) *Brooks replaces Elam.
Plus - K, P LS

Did anyone notice A.Brown wasn't even mentioned in the article?

I love the depth that we have but I'd be a little disappointed if we just flat out cut so many guys we invested draft picks in. Ozzie it's your time to shine. Get some value in return...

I would hope we don't draft another 11 guys next year because we really have no more room for projects. Usually I like gathering as many picks as we can but we can't do it every year and squeeze them all on a 53 man roster.

trading back twice to take Correa doesn't look too great at the moment. We could have easily moved back into the bottom of the first to get a solid guy with a fifth year team option. Or maybe perhaps packaged a few late round picks for a descent lineman with a descent salary.

They will put him in there on some passing downs but Orr has really been impressive during the preseason. He will be the clear starter. I would like to see them move KC around though. Sort of like the role Mcphee had. I wouldn't mind seeing come off the edge a few times either.

I actually think Hensley's evaluations are pretty darn good. Now if only he will give up on the Elam crap. Elam stinks. If they hadn't blown a number one pick on him he would have been gone long ago. Hurst has proven that he can't get the job done at RT. Time to cut bait here too. Kapron Moore hasn't done a darn thing. Tired of carrying his baggage. I am sorry about Reynolds. The Ravens never should have drafted him. He is not an NFL WR. He could have had a shot as a backup QB somewhere and maybe, just maybe blossomed into the next Kordell Stewart. The Ravens did him a disservice. I wish him well, a good guy.

I would like to see the Ravens keep DT Peirce to the 53 roster. Since B. Williams is not guaranteed to be resigned, I think Ravens should keep another big DT. I think Pierce is better than Lewis-Moore. Maybe Pierce and/or Ochi gets injured.

Powers has shown nothing. I hope they make room for Price by cutting one of those guys. My guess:

Offense: (7 WR), (8-OL), (3-TE), (4-RB),(1-FB),(2-QB) =25
Defense (6-DL), (8-LB), (6-CB), (5-S) =25 (Levine as LB/S)
SP (3)
IR = Ochi, Pierce, Nembot
PS = Daniel Brown, Reynolds, Onaswor, Canaday, (other spots from different teams)
*someone may get cut eventually to make room for Waller after his suspension is done.
