browns release paul kruger

6 posts in this topic

im not one to post these kinds of threads, in fact i get annoyed by it when ANY player gets cut someone immediately says "lets kick the tires on (recent cut)", but realistically, i believe kruger in a pass rushing role would be either the 2nd or 3rd best pass rusher here, maybe even higher if doom or sizzle regresses.

if he is willing to accept rotational money rather than another 3-down deal like he got in cleveland, then i really would like to see this. hes still a good pass rusher and im sure sizzle would welcome him with open arms. as much as i like judon and ZDS, i still dont think you can trust HALF of your pass rush in their hands, they both appear to get gassed easily and both appear to be wildly inconsistent, which is no big deal because one is a small school rookie and the other is a 2nd year 4th round DE and its expected, but if they arent quite "there yet" and we have this cap space which we rarely have at this point in the year, lets give it a go.

im not a big free agency guy, im not too big on reckless spending or "kicking the tires" everytime a player gets cut, but this is something that would really bring some hype, and would be a massive boost to our pass rush. and of course, if this were even to be considered, it would be a lot pending, such as krugers financial needs, and roster space, but i would welcome the hell out of this.

if this belongs somewhere else, i apologize.

imo there's a reason the browns cut him beyond their "youth movement" and it's down to a self-admitted lack of pass rushing effectiveness recently, kruger has certainly regressed and honestly i think that will hinder the pass rush more than help it (certainly in the long run)

more importantly, i dont see this happening because some gm absolutely desperate and hopeful that the browns have made another mistake will vastly overpay because of kruger's sack numbers despite the fact that he has only had 3 decent seasons in 7 and only 1 where he was a primary outside rusher

He played along side some great players.  It's like I tell my boss (who is a phins fan),  You see these guys who were great Ravens, and they leave, and then become not so great.  It has to do with the pieces, and putting them together.  when the phins got Ellerbe, he was elated....  But Dannell Ellerbe needed some of those other pieces that he had around him when he was a Raven.  I believe the same holds true for guys like Paul Kruger.  Look back at our defense...  our front 7 was awesome then.

Already being discussed here.

There they are talking about guys we might be interested in...  Me personally???  I wouldn't consider him.  We really should discuss moving the discussion there tho.
