Starting O-line

32 posts in this topic

Ronnie Stanley- He's been fantastic

Alex Lewis- A lot of great, some not so great but his good seems better than Urschels

Ryan Jensen- Aside from one comical play vs the colts he's been great and is far more physical than Zuttah.

Yanda- No explaination needed. Backup Is Ducasse.

Wagner- He's come back. The wagner of 2014 is back. He's looking really good.

thoughts?

Pending Jensen is good at presnap reads, I'd be fine with this lineup if they are the most talented options.  I think LT, RG, and RT are definitely set though

Don't see Jensen overtaking Zuttah for the Center role.

Think the only position that is up for grabs at this point is LG, which is between Urschel and Lewis. Jensen is strictly a backup I believe.

Ronnie is as good as advertised.  He will be a stalwart presence on the line if he keeps on the path he is currently blazing

Alex Lewis - Great potential.  I think he will need what most rookies need.....time.  I would still give either Urschel or Jensen the nod right now at LG, but that's just me.

Ryan Jensen - Hard to argue with the results and also what he accomplished last year.  They need to let him settle into a role and stop ping-ponging him around.  He is a duck in water at Center.

Yanda will be backed up by Jensen if Jensen is in a backup roll, I believe.  I haven't seen Ducasse used at Right Guard, but that doesn't mean he hasn't.....I just haven't noticed to this point.

Wagner is consistent.  He looks very good and seems to me he is stronger this year.

It's still Zuttah over Jensen.  Zuttah and Yanda have left the field together all preseason.  Zuttah's job is safe right now.

Stanley - Couldn't even imagine him doing as well as he has so far.

Urschel - Harbs stated today that he's still the starting LG even though Lewis is playing well.

Zuttah - No reason at this time to believe he'll lose his position to Jensen or Urschel.

Yanda - Will go down as the 2nd best Ravens O-Lineman of all time.

Wagner - Hopefully he's back to his 2014 form.

He said it today after practice.

Of course you think your lineup is the best, that' why you posted it.  :D

There's no reason at all to replace zuttah with jensen. Zuttah is an above average center and is a natural center who has the mental aspect down pat and has rapport with Joe and the coaches and the other linemen. Jensen is still unproven and no more than an inconsistent mauler. Zuttah has a deathgrip on that starting job and until he gets hurt or old then nobody currently on the roster will bypass him.

However, if we want to be truly elite, I think center could be a dark horse first or 2nd round pick in our next draft if you wanna talk future.

Physicality wouldn't necessarily crack one of the top attributes I'd want out of a Center. A bit overrated in that regard.

Unproven?  Disagree.

By the way, how did the OLine perform while he was making calls for protections......that was on him.

No more than a mauler?  Pretty harsh.

Actually, what was said was that while Urschel is the expected starter, Lewis's play has given them something to think about.

He filled in at LG; Urschel was at C. I would imagine Urschel (the resident genius of the team) was the one making the calls.

I think they no more than we do based off what they see EVERY day in practice and hrs and hrs of game film.

Besides, w/ your lineup, that's 3 guys on Joe's blind side that have maybe 3 NFL starts combined.  Come on son!

Also, Zuttah has ran w/ the ones all camp and pre-season.  Why would he lose his spot now?

Here's a good write up on the oline from Sat's game. Thanks @Filmstudy

ducasse has intermittently been used in both guard positions moreso on the right side by my memory

As it has usually been. Urschel also tends to get the nod at guard if someone goes down.

Jensen is either the 7th or 8th man on the line, it's a toss up currently between him and Lewis in terms of depth chart

You're saying it's a toss up between Lewis and Jensen?

Because if you are, that's not even remotely true. Lewis was obviously the starting LG over Jensen in the absence of Urschel and the backup LT.

Urschel wasn't on the field vs. the Lions.....that was the game and situation I was referring to.   Jensen was playing Center as I am sure you know.

Sorry if I was unclear.......

well 757 said urschel is the starting guard as of now, and the starters being stanley, urschel, zuttah, yanda, and wagner, that leaves jensen as a backup G/C, and lewis as a backup G/T, if urschel goes down then lewis gets it, if zuttah goes down it depends, either the line gets shuffled or they just plug jensen in at C. Lewis would definitely be the higher priority guy, but they arent exactly far apart, theyre both swing backups and if someone goes down on the interior it really does become a toss up of: slide urschel to C and plug lewis at G? or leave the line as-is and plug in jensen at C?

its more a situational toss up.

ftr, im 100% for alex lewis as the STARTING guard, im just making assumptions based on harbaughs typical treatment of rookies versus guys with starting experience.

I don't think 757 was right in saying that Urschel is the starting guard. Harbaugh said Lewis has given them a lot to think about and I'd tend to agree. He's played almost as well as Stanley at LG with the starters.

First of all, before taking part in this debate, I want to repent for hating the Stanley pick when Goodell anouced it.

Ronnie I owe you ten years of apologies.

I'm pretty sure the line-up is set besides LG. Urshel seems to have a better mental grasp of the position while Lewis seems to be the better physical option.

Man do I wish we could combine them somehow. That would be an all-pro right there

True that is definitely what he did say.  I even quoted it directly in the training camp post. But if the starting position wasn't clear, I would think Harbs would state they're not sure who's going to start at LG. Granted him saying he's the "expected starter" is not a strong endorsement.  It's more of an endorsement than Lewis has received so far.
