Darren Waller

So what we do with him stresses me out. I feel like he could be a great tight end but coming in at the bottom of the depth chart like he is plus the suspension I just don't know if he will get a fair shot.

With Watson out for the year and no return dates on Pitta and M. Williams, Waller could easily find his spot on the team come week 5. If the season started tomorrow, only Gilmore and D. Brown would be available.

I hope so.

I got scared there for a moment.

He (Waller) looked pretty great last night, although I admit I didn't watch him every snap or anything like that.  He is big and fast - looks like a muscular NBAer.  I haven't seen many of these "projects" turn out well in the past, but Waller may just be a major exception.  I think he can be become a very very good TE, potentially explosive.

I am really curious what is up with Maxx though.

With the way our TE position is going I would actually put him on our 53 roster for the beginning of the season except of course for his suspension. He'd be a major asset in the redzone for not only his receiving ability for jump balls but also for his blocking( I'm assuming hes good since he played at Ga Tech.).

I would love to use him exactly like the saints used jimmy graham.  I actually think he's a little bigger and faster than graham was.  I think he's a willing blocker but I wouldn't count on him to set the edge.  Put him in the slot and let him work the middle of the field and I think he could be very useful.

Outside of the one drop that turned into a deflection for interception he has been great. I guess some fans have a hard time seeing around that because he's been a major breakout candidate but no one cares.

There's a lot to like based off of what he's done so far.  He's more of a mismatch than a traditional TE, but there's nothing wrong with that. He's shown plenty of flashes so far, and it sounds like it's been that way all throughout camp.  He has his downs, but it sounds like he always had a few plays everyday that made you realize what he can actually do.

Him and Butler both look great and probably are the favorite targets of preseason. I bet Butler makes the initial 53 man roster and then Waller will probably be added on week 5 when his suspension is cleared and there is more space on the roster (unfortunately from injuries)

Supposed to miss 4 weeks.

I'm certain we will keep Waller and he will have a place on the team. You know there will be growing pains transitioning from WR to TE. We featured him a lot, and I think that's because we wanted to see what he can really do. I think when we do stuff like that, it's to see what the guy can really do to test him, like Judon.

there has been some success with project tight ends. Larry Donnell will Tye. There are some others I'm forgetting.

Waller has too much upside to slip through Ravens roster. I can see him close to the bottom but on the roster somewhere. Pitta injuries dont really make him a reliable option long term. Gilmore is a great player when not injured and Maxx hasnt really wowed me honestly. Waller has the size and speed to be a serious nightmare and Im telling you now if we let him go, Saints, NE, and possibly SD will be more than happy to pick him up.

Antonio Gates (undrafted), Shannon Sharpe (7th round pick)
