Yeah l know Romo is hurt. If they do trade get a 3rd rounder at most not those 5 round later picks. If we trade l want a 2nd or 3rd rounder if if not no deal if l was Ozzie.

there won't be a trade for that high a pick - if at all - johnson will be cut in a few weeks and the rest of the league knows that too they just have to wait - if we get anything for johnson ill be surprised

Yep exactly. Johnson is not making through waivers something will probably pick him up.

1. Why are the Ravens so injury prone? at this point.... it cannot be bad luck bc we cannot be that much more unlucky then every other team in the NFL. I feel for Ben... SMH (we need to take a look at how we are training and preparing).

2. Dixon does look good- hope the injury doesn't set him back too much. He has a future here.

3. Loved to see Joe, Sizzle and company return and look good!

4. Harbs can complain about cutting the preseason down bc of injuries but he dont have to play starters ... that is his choice!

5. Waller is a player and I think that as unfortunate as losing Ben Watson is.... it may open a door for Waller down the road and he needs to be given opportunities!

I'm wondering if our enthusiasm for bigger muscles on the players means they are getting stronger than their tendons, which attach the muscles to the bones, can stand. That is what is happening in some of the cases like Watson's Achilles tear. His calf muscle overpowered the tendon that attaches it to his foot.

Dixon is our first string RB in the future. We got a good one with this kid. Lets not rush him back. We do have depth at the postion (and don't forget Jusyzck). Kudos to Mallet as well. He really has performed well when he is in.

Mallet has been solid. The Ravens have two starting QB's. If Joe goes down again it won't be a season ending event.

Agreed.

2 things to work on are TACKLING, and RED ZONE Offense, from play calling to execution. If we are going to do anything this year, no matter who lines up, tgese 2 things must improve

The one thing that stood out for me that this article doesn't mention is the play of the other quarterbacks. Both looked equally capable. They have got to find a way to hide Johnson. Letting him go would be a big mistake. I hope somebody tells Harbaugh that he has to let the backup guy play occasionally. There have been several opportunities in the past to get Joe out of the game, and out of the line of fire, but Harbaugh left him in.

I agree it would be nice to hang on to Johnson. Nice for the Ravens, that is. But it might be a little selfish of us. Johnson has played so well he deserves a chance to start on some other team that's hurting in the QB department. We'd like to hide him but would that be fair for him?

You're probably right. The thing that would make a trade possible would be if there were TWO teams in desperate need for a starting QB and no other available extra QB doing as well as Johnson at this time. With two teams going for one specific player the old saying "he who hesitates is lost" applies and the bidding war would begin. Doubt it will happen but it would be fun if it did.

Actually, an increase in Achilles injuries has been tied to steroid injections and antibiotic use, especially Cipro. That's why we're seeing more all across the league.

Risk factors

Factors that may increase your risk of Achilles tendon rupture include:

  • Age. The peak age for Achilles tendon rupture is 30 to 40.
  • Sex. Achilles tendon rupture is up to five times more likely to occur in men than in women.
  • Recreational sports. Achilles tendon injuries occur more often during sports that involve running, jumping, and sudden starts and stops — such as soccer, basketball and tennis.
  • Steroid injections. Doctors sometimes inject steroids into an ankle joint to reduce pain and inflammation. However, this medication can weaken nearby tendons and has been associated with Achilles tendon ruptures.
  • Certain antibiotics. Fluoroquinolone antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin (Cipro) or levofloxacin (Levaquin), increase the risk of Achilles tendon rupture.

The only way l could think of keep both backups unless Johnson fake a injury and then is put on IR. I don't know if it's legal to do that (LOL) but other than that it's only going to be one backup QB and that's Mallett. We could put Johnson on the practice squad but he might not make it through waivers.

Johnson has been in the league for 9 years and if I'm not mistaken he is not eligible for the PS anyway.

That makes zero sense. We couldn't get a 7th or even a udfa for him- teams know he's about to get cut and can get him for nothing. Mallet is another story..we could receive an offer for him but it likely wouldn't be much and not worth it IMO. If we could get a fifth and just keep johnson as the backup id consider it- but its probably still a bad idea. Keeping mallet means if Joe goes down the playbook  would stay relatively the same. But he will be a FA and may be gone next year anyway so it would be nice to get something for him while we can BC he might never be needed anyway. Roll of the dice I suppose. Then again after he leaves next year for a starting job ( I doubt we retain him) we will likely get a comp pick correct? If so that's the smart play regardless if a team like Dallas comes calling.

Plus in the NFL with the emphasis on offense, the speed has increased and with it the number of injuries including achilles. While it makes the game more exciting it also comes with costs.
