Ozzie and John have their work cut out for them.

Some difficult and tough decisions ahead. Some GOOD players are getting cut. :(

Well at least getting down to 75 should be easy. Its the 53 that's so hard.

A lot of times the 75 is the 53 minus the people you need to keep around to fill that 4th preseason game though so a LOT of the tough decisions are coming now.

You know how this goes. I watched on Hard Knocks. An Assistant coach knocks on your hotel room door and tells you bring your playbook. And he takes you to the head coach to deliver you the bad news. Its like the supervisor taking you to boss office and the boss fires you.

This is a cool way to do this, but it looks like you want to cut more than 15 (I count 27, including IR).

Part of the issue with these cuts is the team needs to figure out who to keep in order to get through Thursday's game with minimal chance of injury. Houston, some of the backup OL, Wilson, and others are more likely to be kept now to help accomplish.  I expect the Ravens will play Thursday with somehwere between 38 and 50 players (of 75) seeing action.

Likely to be later re-signed

But also will be open to sign with anyone else on the league. Very risky if they do want to keep him around.

Saw on BR that Elam is expected to be waived.

Yup I saw that.. I don't exactly understand the move. What are they gaining by doing this ? They could easily cut someone else its not like they got deep depth at safety

That's where the tough part comes in.  You'd have to think nearly every healthy DB is safe through the first round of cuts solely for the fact that they can play a whole game and save some others.

When I went to school it was 53 plus people for the 4th preseason game :P

Seems like The Ravens may just be comfortable with Webb,Weddle,Lewis and Levine at safety which is understandable . I don't know what's up with Kendrick Lewis because he hasn't played in any preseason games at all so far due to a injury and I thought he would atleast have to show something to the coaches after having a not so successful season last year.

Kendrick Lewis was not bad last year I do not understand why people think he was so bad. He is a solid player he won't make the difficult interceptions but he is a quality player.

Lewis isn't as bad as some on here think, but I definitely wouldn't call him a quality player. Maybe an average to above average backup.

He played better later on in the season but I wouldn't say he had a season he should have been proud of.

I see you keeping 7 WR's.....Kinda looks like you wanna keep Campanaro.

Honestly I just don't think he has done enough to warrant a roster spot.

I don't think we've seen much from him because he's being held out by the coaches because they want to protect him for the season. If he were more in doubt then he would have played a lot more in preseason 2 and 3 imo

He's the punt returner and there's not really much question about that.  It's been made clear that if he's healthy, he's on the team.

He's more. He definitely knows how to get open.

I mean, doubtful another team wants him.

i agree with u   , if they can find a kick returner from the deep RB postion , he's probably gone as well,

By waiving Elam, they can re-sign him later in the year. The risk is that you could potentially lose him to another team (I bet Teryl Austin would want him for the Lions), but the benefit is that you're not tying-up a a roster spot for a player who can't play for ~6 weeks, and you're not being forced into using your only IR-designated to return slot on him or simply lose him to IR for the season with no option to return.

There is no IR-DTR slot this year. You don't need to DTR in advance, you can activate any player off IR as long as you only do it once.

Right, but you don't have to use that distinction on him at any point if you simply waive him now.

He was very bad last year. I mean he wasn't Elam in 2014 bad or Michael huff bad, but it wasn't pretty. Kendrick Lewis is a high character, hard worker, and solid depth guy who can hold up for a few weeks if needed, he's not starting caliber at all.

Yep, looks like there will be plenty of candidates for that among players more valuable than Elam.

Yeah I got the part but my point was.. why do it now ? They can easily get to 75 without waiving Elam. There's plenty of camp bodies to cut. They could wait and see how Elams recovery is doing and maybe try the move a bit later.
