The good the bad and the ugly Lions version

198 posts in this topic

I'm not sure Detroit is the best litmus test but all things considered...a lot to like. General thoughts;

Joe appears a little boxey or stiff to me. Thought he looked more comfortable in the second drive and really made some nice throws. Got the ball out quickly.

Mallet is a guy who looks like an above average back up once he finds a rhythm. He can get spooked by pressure and bail early.

As I said last week, Brooks needs to wrap....quick. Thought he played poorly tonight.

Suggs looked great. Brent Urban proving to quality rotational player. Still think a veteran DE could be brought in.

Keenan Reynolds should not be allowed to field punts...really looks lost tracking the ball. Jernigan is infuriating...coach needs to get him straight.

Judon.....playing as if he doubts not for one second that he belongs here...really exciting.

Dixon injury is far more troubling than Watson. This is why we drafted Maxx and Crockett ( pitta stay healthy)..and we're good.

Poor tackling early on. Correa actually does a nice job setting the edge for his size but  He hasn't shown that he can get off blocks to this point at all .Not sure about him on teams but he may not even dress on Sunday.

Mosley? Anybody got anything on him?

Glad Joe was hit, QB's off of injury often have a fear based mental block that can only subside when they take a hit and get up from it.

Happy to get off the field quickly on defense - looked a lot better.

Young looked solid in place of Powers

When doing a head-to-head comparison with the Bengals performance vs Lions last we really look a cut above in all most every game stat (defense, offense, ST, etc.). It's still preseason, but that's a good thing. That's really what I needed to see and evaluate.

I know everybody loving butler but one play that stood out to me - was his catch on 3rd n about 7 - caught it but was tackled immediately- came up short n we went for it on 4th down first qtr - I didn't think he set it up well at the top of his route to create the separation for yac.

Who is butler competing with for snaps - intermediate, short stuff - competing with Steve smith, Aiken, camp, Wallace

i know everybody is saying we take 7 receivers but given our depth and options - I really don't think we need an extra player there - I think we would rather take another DB or LB, ochi flashed

I told you Ravens were gonna kill the lions. But Next week is challenging. The Saints are good im telling you now be prepared for defensive battle.

lolwut.

first of all, saints defense? second, its preseason game 4. not about a win, its a last ditch effort for bubble guys to earn a job.

I think Mike Wallace could be the best addition to the team this year.  He's really impressed me with his slant routes and willingness to go inside as well as being that speedster.  And most importantly Joe seems to really like him

Joe liking him is the most important aspect, it shows

Orr seems like he'll be another in a long line of UDFA middle linebackers that play great for the Ravens. Just hope he doesn't follow their lead of getting paid elsewhere and then playing kinda bad.

Stanley Pro Bowl LT

Promising, but still to early to tell. We haven't faced the 'elite' defenses, yet. That said, I'm still betting on him to possibly be in the conversation.

Week 4 of the preseason and you're making a prediction like it matters

Stanley can handle anybody . I haven't seen foot movement like his since Ogden .

Von Miller would consistently beat him . Not many others

I'll say again...(copy and paste) Promising, but still to early to tell. We haven't faced the 'elite' defenses, yet. That said, I'm still betting on him to possibly be in the conversation.

It could happen, but let the season begin and let them throw the 'real' complex schemes at him and let him do his thing. I've got a great feeling about him, but it's still too early... (If asked: Ogden might have said the same about himself, in the same position in his 1st preseason).

He faced an elite rusher/athlete and pushed him around

Just glad Dixon injury appears to be short term. Was super pumped about him since the draft, he's hit a set back but it looks like he'll be back in a few weeks.

We still haven't even seen Perriman or SSS this preseason. WR is looking stacked and I never dreamed I would say that as a Ravens fan. Mike Wallace was definitely a big get for this offense, I see him being our leading wr this year.

if stanley plays as well as he has so far this preseason, then von miller isnt beating him, NO speed rushers are beating him, he has been that good, also has been more powerful than advertised though still needs to work on it. khalil mack and dante fowler are the ones scaring me for this season, both are absurdly powerful and explosive edge rushers, they are the ones who i would envision giving stanley a fit, not the undersized guys who try to blow past, stanleys dropback, reaction time, and length and initial punch are absolutely elite looking so far and would probably wipe any speed rusher from the stat sheet.

he made light work of a top 3 edge rusher from last season, and detroit in general is no slouch across the front 4, so its not like he had no worries on the inside, he erased his man and locked down the gap on each shoulder with poise.

I'm afraid of Mack. Fowler needs to prove himself first

what ive seen of mack in training camp footage... oh boy, he looked good, now thats just training camp and all but if any first year player comes out and sets the league on fire id put my money on fowler.

Why we wait on Pro Bowl Picks at the End of the Season: 16 games of that, facing 16 different defensive schemes designed to trip-up the best of the best and 16 different opportunities to prove that you belong with a thousand possible outcomes. I think he can do it, but don't jinx it...please.

there is really nothing wrong with taking the evidence weve been given and making projections based off of said evidence.

honestly, thus far, there is absolutely ZERO reason to think stanley will be anything less than an absolute stud, and it shall remain that way until he gives us a reason, which he has not even come close to doing yet.

Never said it was wrong or Stanley isn't a complete stud. I said 'don't jinx it...please. Sometimes it takes more than evidence (especially before the season begins). It takes a whole body of evidence and a little luck even for studs.

Rookies are very, very rarely given the honor. I would love to see him do it, but more importantly - if he keeps ballin' like he has been I can careless about Pro Bowl Selections. He'll be elite to me regardless.

I don't think any LT in the league can consistently stiffle Von or Mack. It's more so about limiting their high impact plays, which can be done.

Still super impressed with Stanley, I think he ends up being better than Tunsil. Better technique and foot work, Tunsil relies too much on athleticism.

Stanley looks good. honestly I like him against guys like Von Miller and Mack. He's quick and athletic. What I worry about   is guys like McPhee and Watt. Powerful guy are what I see being Stanley's problem.

Wow this thread is unbelievable. You are trying to stack a rookie Stanley who isn't even close to Michael Oher in natural ability against the likes of Von Miller? That literally makes me LOL

Let me state the facts in real terms. No matter how we like to slice and dice it, yes we won the game by 3 touchdowns but the facts are , our first team looked ridiculous. 37 yards rushing? Wallace --35 yards, Forsette--got nothing, we have no TE, we got no sacks, we had no tackle for loss, we had virtually the same team we put out there last year. This is the new look NFL and we don't match up!!!
