[News] Benjamin Watson Suffers Torn Achilles

26 posts in this topic

Never want to see anyone get hurt but this is a blessing in disguise. All of the Tight Ends on our roster have better speed, size, and athleticism than this guy. It was a head scratching decision to pay what we did for him. I mean the guy is only 6-2, he is 35 (slow), and has only surpassed 500 yards in a season three times in his eleven year career.

Damn nobody touched him. It was weird. Hate to see a player go down for the whole year but man this gives Waller, Boyle and Brown a shot.

No one wanted to see this happen. Tight end will be riding on Pitta, Williams, and Gillmore until Waller gets back from suspension. Let's see if we pick up someone after the cuts to 75 happen.

I agree with you. It was a head scratching move to sign him when we already have good TE's on the roster. At the beginning, Ozzie probably wanted a veteran to help out Gillmore and Williams due for being Pitta being injured and might not play again but now having Pitta returning we really don't need Watson and if Pitta returned back to form that he wants was l wonder could we cut Watson next year. But l feel very bad for Watson though, first play at the line of scrimmage than got a torn achilles.

I simply cannot fathom this being a blessing. Gilmore has had his issues with staying healthy. Maxx seems to be rarely available and when he is, he seems like he's still very much in need of further development. We have no idea what we really have in Pitta and he's still in a position where he has a far greater chance than the average player of going out for the year in a flash. Watson was the clear starting TE. I can think of a lot of words that better describe that than a blessing.

Please l'm praying that Dixon is okay. I actually like him better than Forsett and he should be the starter running back. Anthony Levine Sr should start on the defense as well he's making plays and might be another Corey Graham.

I wonder can Butler and Mike Wallace switch thier numbers let Mike Wallace wear his number 17 while Butler wear number 12. Or if they cut Chris Matthews let Butler wear number 13. I want Mike Wallace to wear his number 17 back. Dixon looks good at number 30 but l would love him to wear like number 25.

Sheesh. Watson was the only TE on the team, that hasn't been injured this summer or hasn't been suspended. I wouldn't hold my breath on Pitta or Gilmore going the whole season, or even half a season without an injury. I hope not, but to think otherwise is insane. Just like thinking Romo will play a full season. By the way, where is Phelps? Good to see Helen Maroulis at the game. Maryland, good representation at the Olympics this year.

I hope Dixon is OK and can return at some point this season. Hopefully MRI comes back good. Give Houston the ball all of game 4. No need to put West or Allen out there.

That was one of the most pathetic examples of a career in a ravens uniform i have ever seen. he basically lines up for the first offensive snap of his ravens career, trips over his own feet before even taking one stride, and tears an achilles and is out for the year. He didnt even complete an offensive move. He lifted his foot off the ground, and his career is done. There is no way they are not releasing him after the season given the other players in development. wow.

This is the third Achilles injury in less than a calendar year. We have to start saying this isn't bad luck we are training these guys wrong. Figure this out between knee's and ankles no team has had more season ending injuries in the past 4 seasons than us.

These guys are pushing their limits.  We already hired a completely new training group after last year.  A torn achilles can happen to anyone by stepping off a curb wrong.  His burst off the line of scrimmage shows the push off and when he tore it.

Yea, and they gotta pay him a whole year's salary for five seconds of work. Would be nice if Pitta, Gilmore and Williams could stay healthy all year. FAT CHANCE. They've all been injured already this summer.

I don't think pathetic is a good word. Disappointing maybe.  Stuff like this happens.  We, as Ravens fans, should understand that.  Especially after last year.

Wallace seems happy with the Ravens. He sure seems to thrive with Flacco in there. I'm sure the number situation will settle after the cuts are made. If he wanted number 17, then he would have asked for it earlier in camp. On the other hand, Butler looked pretty good out there, too.

Cursed! The first play of the game and Ben Watson trips over his own feet, falls onto grass, is never touched and he tears his Achilles and done for the season. How does that happen??? I swear we are cursed!!!!!! Now that stupid fight by Pitta (fracturing his finger) makes me even more ticked off!!!!!!!!!!

The guy is 35 years old, so he's going to be more prone to injuries- I questioned why we even signed him, but I know Oz likes to get them older and cheaper... Regardless, it's definitely unfortunate that this happened to such a fine man. Just looking at his jersey number, I can't help to think that our misfortunes have occurred since Oz let Torrey Smith walk out the door. From now on, Ill refer our future misfortunes (like us not making the playoffs this year), the "Torrey Smith Curse" or TSC.

Ozzie signed him because they were unsure about Pitta and Gilmore was expected to have surgery on both shoulders and be out indefinitely. As it turns out, Pitta and Gilmore came back sooner than expected.
Based on that, I think Ozzie did the right thing in signing Watson. Just unfortunate what happened since he has been the only healthy TE throughout training camp and developed great chemistry with Joe.

We are still loaded at TE. We don't need to pick up someone.
Teams normally carry 3 TE's: for us that is Pitta, Gilmore and Williams.
After week 4 we have to find room for Waller. After week 10 we need to find room for Boyle.
So no need for anymore TE's.
