[News] Rookie Alex Lewis Has Chance To Earn Starting Left Guard Job

16 posts in this topic

Was it W.C. Fields who said there was a sucker born every day. Well, I guess that's me because I really believed Harbaugh when he said Urschel has a contusion and would be back soon. Now he hasn't played for two weeks and this will be the first bruise ever to keep a player out for a whole season. Following Harbaugh proclamation last year that Perriman was day to day for 365 days, now I am more worried about Urschel than I should be but with all the stupidity surrounding "injuries" while we are still in preseason shows just how eccentric coaches are.

The only way l see Alex Lewis have a chance of starting is either Urschel is not performing well and take the LG sport or either Urschel replace Zuttah as the C and have Alex Lewis play as LG. I also can see Alex Lewis play RT in the future when Ricky Wagner contract expires next year and if we can't afford him he could take that spot.

We did well during a deep playoff run with Urschel and Hurst on the left side in 2014, both rookies at the time. There is no reason Stanley and Lewis cannot do well and develop great chemistry from day 1 as rookies. Rick Wagner is mediocre to average, and is not going to demand top dollar. I can't imagine there would be a big market for a ok RT. If Urschel or Jensen can develop as a center, we would have a decent OL for several years. I can't see them keeping Zuttah beyond this year.

I hope Lewis works out. I think Urschel can step right in. He played well at guard and is our future at center. Hurst stinks. Putting him at LT will get Joe hurt again. Love the idea of Lewis and Urschel side by side, along with Stanley. Finally a number one worthy of the pick.

Saw the Stanley - Lewis combo back at the rookie practice and they looked really. really good. Opened big holes for the RB and absolutely dominated Judon.

I respectfully disagree about the Zuttah part. If it ain't broke then don't fix it! I think Zuttah is actually a bargain at around 4-5 mil a year. When healthy, C has never been a concern. Remember how we played musical chairs at Center after Birk retired? I don't want that again.

Now that Lewis has gotten the chance to play you can forget it. At 6'6 and 315 he will be our starting LG for years to come. He is a beast. I really think it will be a toss up as to whether the left or right side of our line is better. Yanda and Wagner are proven but I think Lewis and Stanley will perform equally as well. Regardless. this is a monster offensive line. They will be the key to a record setting Raven offense.
Don't tell anybody but when we put Gilmore, Pitta, Perrriman, Smith and Wallace on the field together it may be the best overall group of receivers in the NFL. Moore, Waller and Butler are exceedingly good backups. Flacco has never had it so good. They will pass first and set up the run for an incredible group of fast scat backs in Forsett, West and Dixon.
This offense should push 40 a game. With an above average defense the Ravens could be very tough to beat.
This Raven's team is deep and talented. If Harbaugh is half the coach he is given credit for being, they should soundly beat a lot of other teams. IMO, if they finish worse than 11-5 and don't win the division then there is something terribly wrong. IMO, they are the class of the AFC and should easily return to the Super Bowl.

Whoops..did I forget to mention Aiken? Yep. That's just proof how deep and talented we are at WR. If Flacco doesn't hit 5k yards I'll kiss my sister.....and that would be really horrible. This is the greatest opportunity that Trestman has ever had to shine. If he just stays out of the freaking way they will set records and he'll be considered a genius. The fact is, the talent level is so high he can only screw it up. Let Joe wing it..no defense can run with Wallace and Perriman and that leaves Smith on the slot corner...MISMATCH. Throw in Pitta and Gilmore and there is no defense in the league that can match up. I mean it is fgn ugly....then run the ball once they pull everybody into coverage,
We have never had an offense like this in the entire history of the Ravens. If Joe or John or Marc screws it up I may never watch football again.

Love the enthusiasm - definitely the potential to be the most talented group of skill players we've ever had - but idk about being the best group in the league, Joe easily topping 5k in yards (when hes yet to top 4k), and us pushing 40 pts/game is madness. Aint happening.

Last years top offenses averaged barely 30 pts/game and that was only 3 teams... after that the next best were right around 25 pts/game... and we're talking about GB, Steelers, Carolina, etc... who had very high powered offenses. We're not topping them by an average of 10 pts/game.

In fact, 40 pts/game has never been done. The 2013 record-setting Broncos averaged 36 pts/game and that was with Peyton hanging 5 TD games left and right.

Again, like to see others optimistic, but expecting the literally unachievable is only gonna disappoint you. We're not going to best the greatest offense ever by an average of 4pts/game with a ball control offense, built around the run, with a QB who has never been the prolific, stats type.

We're a well-rounded team, that wants to operate efficiently, control the clock on offense, avoid the big play on defense and force turn overs... and then when we have a lead we sit on it and try to grind the clock out by pounding the rock.

That's not a recipe for putting up huge numbers.... but thats not to say this Ravens team cant be VERY good, and the best offense we've ever had - which i think it easily will be (considering last year was our best O in scoring with mainly scrubs playing) - but some of the benchmarks you suggest are a little out there.

Rick Wagner is not mediocre to average. Yes, he played poorly last season after coming off a Lis Franc like Jimmy. But the season before he was Ranked the TOP right tackle, 11th overall tackle by PFF.

Your assessment of the market for RT is probably right, and that is fueled by that fact that this is the first season in many that there are no lefty starters at QB.

Hurst needs to be stopped from being used like a rag doll.

LOL on the kissing your sister :) Yes, you can't forget about Aiken, he is playing very well.
