None, but also the highest they've picked since then.

Nice public slam of the player. Great negotiating tactic there.

Still, no one can explain one thing to me.

The Chargers are actually willing to bump up his signing bonus to $17M (Fowler Jr. got $15M) and bump up his base salary so that he is the second highest paid rookie in the first year aside from Wentz. That means his salary is going to be a lot higher than the 300k Fowler Jr. got and he's going to be handsomely rewarded.

From what I'm understanding, your signing bonus is paid out every single week of the regular season, same as a game check, so he'll get his last installment in January. Then, the Chargers want to give him the rest in one fat check in March, two months later, or a month later after game checks if SD makes the Super Bowl. Why is that a big deal? He's probably going to get like $4M his rookie season after taxes, so he won't be hurting for money at any point. Why is it a big deal to wait until March?

It's a multitude of things from my understanding.  Originally, the Chargers wanted to defer 50% to next season, which was obviously a no go.  Their latest offer was reportedly to defer 15% to 2017, which isn't that much.  The highest deferment since the CBA for a top 5 pick is apparently 10%, so it's still out of principle.  It sounds like Bosa said he'd accept that if they dropped the offset language, but the Chargers refused to do that as well.  Bosa's stance all along has apparently been that he'll take deferment or offset language, not both.  The Chargers insist on having both.  I'm not sure if it's entirely about the money (his family is rich) as it is principle at this point.

He just seems like he's being egomaniacal at this point because the Chargers offered to up his salary and lower the deferment so that he's going to be making the second most cash this year, essentially making his signing bonus deferment non existent.

With the offset language, I really don't understand how Bosa expects to get that. 1. It sounds like he may not be confident enough in himself to stick around for his entire rookie contract, which would be uncharacteristic of a top three pick. That doesn't make sense to me. 2. It just makes sense from the Chargers perspective. Why pay a player who isn't even on your roster anymore? I don't understand how players expect to get that from a team.

On the same token, why should Bosa accept terms that no other player that's been drafted since the CBA has accepted?  I think that's where the holdup is.  In all reality, it's probably not too much Bosa would be missing out on money-wise.  I think it's the principle of getting his fair share compared to what everyone else has gotten.  Bosa definitely has his faults in this.  There's definitely an ego there, but at the same time, I can understand where he's coming from.  The Chargers are seemingly playing hardball for no apparent reason, which they have a history of doing.  I think it's easy to look on as an outsider and see that Bosa is passing up becoming a millionaire, but the other side of the coin is a billionaire fighting over $2M being paid now or next year, which would be the same cap hit either way.

I read it's something to do with their taxes and breaks or something or another as far as why they're waiting, but still- why does it matter if he gets it now or two months later? He's gonna get even more money now if he just waits two months. It really that big of a deal?

With the way the Chargers' defense has played, they probably realized that they had to just put pride aside and get him on the field.

I am soooooooooooooooooo glad we didn't get this guy... This guy is a train wreck.  He shows up late after not signing his deal.  Now he's got a hamstring.

"So he had a nagging hamstring injury. He missed last week. Hasn't even practiced in full pads yet. That is a major problem. Not gonna play until he practices in full pads maybe once or maybe more. It's not gonna be Joey Bosa this week -- the hope is for Week 3. But even that's not guaranteed."

Totally agree! And you know his teammates are fed up too.

The one thing I can say, and we'll see as the season goes on, is that the Baltimore Ravens have always lived by "The Team" philosophy.  No real prima dona's.  Weddle is a prime example.  And I think Mike Wallace has too...  We shall see.  But not even Ray and Ed were like that.  They still focused on "The Team".

So has this guy played at all ?
Has he lived up to the hype ?

I don't think I have heard his name once.

No - his current stats consist of one number, repeated in all columns - 0

You have to wonder how much of this is result in the contract talks.  Maybe if he never held out, he doesn't mess up his hamstring, etc, etc....

And this is the guy a lot of people were hoping to get....blech.

I was one of them.

AGAIN, thank God I don't work for the RAVENS.

Seriously though, I can't help but wonder how much of a hole he is digging for himself.  I wonder how long before we find out if he an NFL great or not, if ever....

Hey don't feel bad; a few years ago I wanted us to draft Mike Adams with our 1st. Oops

I don't think Bosa ever had the potential to be more than a pretty good player, maybe even a pro bowl or two.

So in Bosa's debut, he goes against the raiders o-line that shut us down. Will be interested to see how he does

I certainly don't expect much after seeing them against us. Although, I will be really pissed if they do find a way to get to Carr.

Considering the fact that the guy missed the entire off season due to agent / franchise talks about his contract, and forced to play a role he never did in college as a rookie & already has 2 sacks...

I don't understand the hate towards the guy?  I think he's playing as good as they had expected with all things being considered.
