The good, the not so good pre-season game 2

331 posts in this topic

The Ones Defense, no pass rush, weak coverage by Wright and Powers, same ol bend but dont break broken philosophy playing 10 yards off the ball....I hope Sizzle and Doom add some fear to opposing qb's... the good is our Rooks....home run draft class, the future looks bright...Judon, Dixon, Tavon, Canady, Correa, Stanley, Alex his backup, I love the additions.... I hope Pees has a more aggresive mindset for the regular season, because I would love to see what Coach Frazier would do as DC with these defensive chess pieces if given the chance

I really fear that if Ochi goes to the PS, he'll be snatched up quickly.

well if hes good enough to be on another team 53 so be it right now he's not in the best 53 for the Ravens

While our secondary is improved with Weddle , it definitely looks like our corners is a huge problem area . It's hard to gauge the pass rush without Suggs & Doom playing . Without them , it stinks too .

I just fear that some team may have wanted him during undrafted free agency and are just waiting for the Ravens to put him on PS. That's what I meant.

-Judon looks like what we thought we were getting with Upshaw

-Safeties are solid and hopefully Pees can use them to mask some of our deficiencies at CB

-Dixon and West are the future. West just needs to get smarter with his running, you can tell he's overthinking but my sense is he's trying to impress. Once his roster spot and status on the team are solidified I think he'll settle down.

-Finally hit on a WR with Moore. Light bulb seems to have come on for Butler in game situations as well.

The key this season is to control the clock with our run game because I'm afraid our corners are gonna get torched like last season .

Loved the body slam tackle by Elam.

Judon is a beast and I hope a keeper.

Feeling a lot better about the running game with Stanley Dixon and West making their presence felt.

Interesting to see who gets the back up qb spot.

Liked what I saw in Canady for first time on field.

What happened to Wallace? Was he ever targeted? Don't recall.

 Forssett should be worried.

Camp makes the team even if it's only on K/R and P/R duties.

FYI:  For those of you who were watching the NFL Network and lost the game who don't live in the MD. area and couldn't pick it up locally, it will be replayed on the NFL Network on Tuesday at 4 to 7 AM, set ya DVR's!

Nfl is doing 1 week of free game pass as well.

He was there, but I don't think he was targeted. He could've been, but I'm not too sure. He'll be targeted once Flacco comes back.

Chris Moore looked VERY GOOD. I wonder if he can return.

Can't see him returning, but I agree he looks like something special. Very good routes.

I came here to say I really like Chris Moore

Late-round rookie Antonio Brown in his second preseason game: 2 receptions for 12 yards.

Late-round rookie Chris Moore in his second preseason game: 3 receptions for 20 yards.

Watch out AFCN.

I didn't think he would look this good this soon .

Very polished fundamentals for a rookie

I knew he'd be fine in the pass game, even with the potential to get even better, but like I say I thought it'd take a year or two in the pros to get a bit more punch in the run game and he's doing better than I thought he would at this stage.

Technique-wise there's been a lot to love for a while. Notre Dame is quietly becoming a great OL school.

i dont think so - he's put nothing on film worth other teams putting on their 53 and youd think hed do the sensible thing and stick around on baltimore's ps rather than another team's because hell know the system

Missed the game unfortunately. Please tell me how did Jimmy Smith and Matt Elam play?

They didn't really throw Jimmy's way but he did help force a fumble. Elam was amongst the best performers on defense tonight.

I think we are just overvaluing our own players (again). If a team really valued him so much, they had like multiple options to get him. They could have signed him as a UDFA as well, or they could have simply drafted him.

Would be interested to see if there's ever been a case where a team poached an UDFA off our PS in the first year. Its pretty rare that we get poached to begin with, and they're almost always draft picks.

Plus, I'm pretty sure that almost all or even all of the players who were "poached" from our PS by other teams didn't amount to anything elsewhere.

We discussed this in another topic a few weeks back, and I believe historically, this notion of other teams actually poaching good players from our PS is basically non-existent historically.

Glad to hear it. I'm rooting hard for Elam to turn it around.

Elam looks like an entirely new player and one capable of starting if something were to happen to Weddle or Webb

I'm happy Elam is finally settled down and playing his football; hopefully, he can continue where he left off......

PS: Elam is a very good person off the field as well, so best wish for his football career.....

yeah and he's probably smart enough to take a look at the Ravens pass rushers... not a lot of young guys so he should stick 1 year on the PS and make the 53 this season if there are injuries or work his way up

The first team didnt do too much deep, thats where I expect Wallace to really make his impact.  All the underneath stuff Aiken and SS will get the load of

Forreal. He was awesome. His routes were great and had the discipline to get out of bounds rather than go for the yards. I really think he could be a big deal.

I was being a little sarcastic about the Antonio Brown comparison, but I agree. His football intelligence was great to see, even stuff like diving on the dropped pass in case it was ruled a fumble as the announcer pointed out. It was a small thing, but as you say it's great to see a WR paying attention to stuff like that. It's nice to think we may have finally taken a late-round WR who amounts to more than washing out of the league after two years on the phantom IR.

I think pees is on a real short leash, harbaugh was calling out the defence last season. If we're healthy n don't bring it - pees is done, half the reason we brought in Frazier I think

Well yeah I wouldn't go as far as saying he's going to be as good as Antonio brown. I will say I think he is showing he might be better than any receiver we have drafted. His routes are on point and gets good separation and has the smarts. His hands to me are all that need to be completely validated to me. I honestly completely dismissed picking him in the draft, but he's got me excited.

Ok let's slow it down on Chris Moore. I didn't see the game, and I'm one of his biggest supporters, but it is so premature to consider him possibly the best wr we've ever drafted, and yes I know how bad our history is with drafting wr's... But really, if we got a guy who was better than torrey in the 4th, hell if we got a guy better than Mark Clayton in the 4th, it would be a hell of a steal, and it's definitely too early to even speculate on that.

That said, I'm excited about him too. He seems to have what our other receivers have lacked, ball skills.
