The good, the not so good pre-season game 2

I dont see this being the end of Pitta's career. Hes not getting cut, and he'll be back soon.

They've waited this long, they're not going to walk away now over a finger. I think if this was regular season, Pitta would be able to suit up and play. Tape it to a Popsicle stick and get out there.

Harbaugh said yesterday that Pitta can't be out there because doctors told him if he hits it again, he could need a screw placed... which is not a short recovery.

No question he'll get his shot when ready.

That sounds funnier than it should....

Agree, although I'm not sure he'd be able to play yet, but I imagine he'll be back within the next 7-10 days.

Thanx,

But I'm not much interested in Cap Discussions.  They are labored. Any Team can make room for any Player in  regard to Cap.  The Steelers do it all the time.

My view on Cap is that it must be rescinded for the game to be completely enjoyable. When it is rescinded we will see who the good GM's are and  who they are not. I also believe rosters need expanded by at least 10 players and I believe 12 would be a better number with the injuries and concern for player well being. If our roster was 65, I  might understand retaining Elam.

This makes no sense.  If there is no cap,  we turn into the MLB where owners can offer any contracts they want,  making teams with a higher bankroll able to sign whoever.   It wouldn't take the talent of the gm completely out of the game,  but it would make it a hell of a lot easier for the spending teams to look better.  Takes more talent to do more with less,  than more with more...

Whatever they pay Elam is too much, because his roster spot is valuable and it strains credibility to say, we have nothing better and can't release him. Every time he is on the field there is jeopardy of losing the game. He can't play the position in the NFL.

I'm sorry but clearly you don't know what you're talking about. I watch soccer in Ligue 1 (french Championship if you will) and you don't see how blessed you are with the salary cap, where every team has a shot at being elite one day.

Except for the Browns. They're doomed.

That Jensen play on the goal line was god awful. Didn't even look like he made an effort. If he holds His ground even a little bit Dixon strolls in easily for the TD. Plays like that are the difference in winning and losing games. He straight up got pancaked- ugliest play of the game in my eyes. Gotta clean stuff like that up. I imagine he got clowned for that in the film room. Wasn't even against starters...

Mike Preston has been hyping Jensen as a tough guy and he is definitely strong and chippy but he got dominated on that play. It was an embarrassment. I think he can rebound but man...

Yeah I like Jenson and i thought and still think he has a lot of promise but plays like that just can't happen. It almost looked like he was on his heels or somethin. I dont know if he was confused on the snap count and just got caught off guard or what but to be totally pancaked like that is inexcusable. Cost us an easy TD. Hopefully will be a good learning moment..better now than the regular season that's for sure.

Looks like he was stepping right and the D-lineman came in from his left on a hard push.  Inexcusable?  Why?  Every player gets beat.....every. single. one.  The key is not to get beat like that very often.  Interceptions just can't happen.  Fumbles just can't happen.  Muffed punts just can't happen.  Dropped passes just can't happen..penalties..etc. etc. ad nauseam.  They do and in this case, he was beaten.

Funny how the aggression he showed got that same player that beat him off balance and upset enough to take a swing at him, and got us 15 yrds that extended a drive.  He'll give out more of those than he'll get, is my bet!!

Go back and look at the backside pursuit of the two LB's coming off the left side of the line.  Who did they beat?  That play was absolutely doomed regardless of Jensen getting pancaked.  They were going to get there long before the RB hit the LOS.

Check the backside pursuit of the two LB's.  No way he makes the EZ even if Jensen holds up.  He was moving to his right and got smashed from his left. It happens.  Don't think the guy goes out there and takes plays off.  Always downfield looking for someone to clean up.  Not his style.

Hello, this is the post game recap thread, not a salary cap thread.  Don't hijack.

Last "nice" warning. Knock it off.

I agree with this comment.  Offensive line play in particular is all about minimizing failure rate over a lot of individual trials.  A punt returner, by juxtaposition, can be cut for fumbling once, because there are many fewer trials.

Unfortunately for Jensen, he made other mistakes Saturday among 37 total snaps (a little less than 65% of a normal game).

Obviously Harbs was upset about the QBs running for yards and we start the season off with two prolific, speedy QBs. I bet he and the coaches are hammering that point.

Yeah  that's gonna be quite the test. We've never seemed to be too good at containing mobile qbs. One reason it would be nice to keep josh around as long as possible.

Yea our gap/edge discipline was awful. We were too worried about getting down field and got sucked right out of the play losing contain.

Luck is athletic but no where near as dynamic or explosive as Tyrod. He'll gash us if we're that sloppy/undisciplined week 1..

i have faith they'll get it cleaned up though. Sizzle and Doom should really help.

Plus we know Tyrod better than Tyrod knows Tyrod. Our D practiced against him for 4 years. And RG3s career became derailed because of us. We completely overwhelmed him and literally took him out of the game. We'll be able to again.

True but Tyrod could also knows how to exploit some of our players... and RG3 has the ever-creative Hue Jackson as his coach, Hue even got Andy Dalton to have success (including running) against us. Dalton has run for more attempts against us than any other team and scored 4 of his 14 career rushing TDs against us. It has been an issue for years, as Harbaugh alluded to.

That's a big reason why I think the team wanted to get faster and more athletic on the defense.  Whether we actually accomplished that is a huge question mark, but the effort is there to try to counteract these types of issues.

Kirk cousins almost single handedly beat us. Rg3 did not have a good game that week and I got worried when he got hurt because I KNEW cousins was gonna give us trouble.

Watching the rerun, and I'm looking at webb, and I think we have ourselves a nice little tandem at safety. Neither is the strong or the free but they're both strong in coverage and excellent tacklers so the labling doesn't matter, and.both are obviously very heady and instinctive.

I don't think enough is being made of the improvement of our safety play, in 2012 ed reed was on his last legs and pollard was a liability in space, but that tandem still played a big part in our SB season, and I think this tandem will be far better, and our pass rush has a chance to be equal if not slightly better. If judon can play half as well with/against starters and if jernigan comes on strong then we Will have a nice little squad.

The key here is still health and chemistry, I think our starting units are good enough to make a run and we have depth that could separate us from a lot of the league late in the year, but we will need our playmakers and im not yet sold that we can stay healthy, and of course you need chemistry to.win and that's yet to be seen.

Where is the "beast" Correa? He's been in 5 games, has one tackle and a pass defended. With Suggs and Dumervil getting beat up and not being able to play you think this would be a perfect time to get him some game action behind Z. Smith and Judon. You also think you might see him a bit because Mosley was out as well. I haven't read any injury issues with him so what's the reason why he's not being deployed?

People were getting on my case about what I saw out of him in preseason which was not much. If he was all that he'd be on the field.

So, all that just to pat yourself on the back? Wouldn't you rather have been wrong so far about him?
