Considering there's a decent number of guys on offense who won't be playing this weekend or probably at all in the Preseason, that's likely to be the case regardless.

Just not sure the reward outweighs the risk at this point. He's a 9th year player... I'm not concerned about the reps or the "rust" of playing in an actual game.

Neither am I... If you are preparing against Suggs, Weddle, J. Smith, etc. every day in practice I think he will prepared going into his 9th season. I wouldn't be surprised if Pitta (even though I would like to see him play), Flacco, or S. Smith don't play...

What I am worried about though is Forsett looked garbage as one of our veterans... Hopefully it is just rust for him... He hasn't been a starter for long anywhere.

As far as I know, Pitta hasn't practiced in about three weeks do the finger injury, so you would think he'd certainly have to return to practice this week for a shot at playing Saturday.

To be honest, if he doesn't return soon, I think he's facing an uphill battle to make the team. I think we've all just assumed he would, but he's not practicing and we've got plenty of depth at that position. Still personally consider any production we get out of him this year to be a bonus.

I disagree with this premise.  I've gone to a few Ravens practices and during live 11 on 11 drills, the DEF noticeably pulls up and never finish executing their pass rush b/c they don't (and shouldn't) get too close to Joe. I personally feel that he needs to go against a LIVE DEF in order for him to truly recognize the speed of the game again.  He hasn't seen live action since Nov.

I think he makes the team after he showed himself bouncing back. He is one of the few players who can get open consistantly on this team. I wouldn't be surprised if he was 3rd on the depth chart going into the season but I think he carves out a big role if not a starter. It would be nice to see him play but I don't think it is happening in any preseason game.

Personally, I don't see how Pitta doesn't make the team based off what I've seen so far from the other TEs.  I didn't realize it until Sat's game but Gillmore is slow. Even if Pitta doesn't play vs DET, I still see him as the #2 TE behind Watson week 1.

It depends on when they clear him for full practice. I just don't see that happening this week.

Wouldn't suspect he'd be ready by Saturday, but possibly by the 4th game.

Maybe ... I hope not. Personally, I think the guy could use the work and experience. It so often seems like when we do that, the guy we IR never really comes back and can contribute. I think Canady is playing pretty well so far and would like to see him grow. Our CB corps isn't exactly all what you'd call rock solid, so any potential help he could bring later in the season, will be worth the wait. Hopefully this is just going to be a rest for a week type thing.

butler came back well...

The way Harbs was discussing the   pitta situation and harping on how absurd it was I just didnt get the vibe hes about to get cut. Esp after talking about how him and Joe need to get their timing down and what not. Im sure others might have perceived those comments differently but I didn't get the impression that they are going to let him go. It would make sense though and I'd hate to see him on the roster stunt the growth of crock and maxx but his rapport with Joe is just priceless and one clutch catch could be  the difference in us winning or losing a game or two. And one game could be the difference in making the playoffs or even winning the division.

If he can get back by game 4 and  show that he can still get that separation and take some hits then he will make the 53. Trestman is going to be using these tight ends a lot and four guys are needed. We may even keep four active on game day because I've heard him mention triple and even four tight end sets.

If he's injured, he would likely be put on IR instead. You aren't allowed to cut injured players without some sort of settlement at least.

Do agree that its looking less and less likely that Pitta ever plays a snap on this team again. If he spends the year on IR, there's no way we keep him next season with a $7.7M cap hit and a $5.5M salary.

He does carry $4.4M in dead money with him in the future, so regardless of whether we cut him now or next offseason, he's going to count that much against the 2017 cap.

Come on, people, the "Pitta situation" is being discussed in at least 3 other threads.  Please drop it here since this thread is supposed to be about our upcoming game and Pitta won't be playing.

I really really hope Jernigan takes it up a notch. One wonders if his success in his rookie year was having suggs/dooms/ngata and mcphee all with him and making it overwhelming and he would just pick up the scraps..

If we still had Mcphee i'd have 0 worries about this pass rush :( He just always seemed to collapse the middle. Urban has shown nothing other than an ability to bat a few passes and don't get me started on carl davis. Jernigan has to take the step up or this pass rush will be awful.

I hope Perriman plays this weekend. I really want to see him play.

Been waiting for so long. And I really, really, really want us to have a #1 type guy that can do it all and routinely beat double coverage, and open everything up for everyone else. I just want to see glimpses. Shoot, im excited to see him in a uniform.

Just announced that Joe will play vs Detroit.  It would be cool if January Joe shows up all year.

I think that if our offensive line plays up to its potential that Joe will have his first 4,000+ yard season. We have soooooo many weapons. It's going to be fun.

Plus, we have the same offensive coordinator for a change.

With Joe playing in this game and it being the "game plan" game, i think Trestman will open up the offense much more early on. In the first 2 games, it's been a heavy emphasis on the run early, but with Joe, Trestman well be able to run that spread quick release offense that he wants to run. This is not Kubiak's offense anymore and it can't to run as such. Let's get the most out of all the weapons this offense has. The speed of Wallace, Perriman and Moore. The sure handed yac potential of SSS, Aiken and Butler. The physical mismatches of Watson and Gilmore. The in space ability of Dixon and Buck out of the backfield. Juice being a swiss army knife, I want to see it all.

Now of course all of this won't happen in this game and it shouldn't, but I would like to see some of this stuff happening and getting this 1st team offense some confidence and momentum heading into week one.

Dont be so sure of yourself. If he gets cleared for contact for even 1 practice this week i think he plays. Harbs said if he can play he will, and i believe that.

If they want him ready for week 1 hes going to have to take some snaps. Maybe not extensive but i think he'll get a few in this weekend.

I also recall everyone telling me that theres no way he'd be back this week when i set his return date at today.

Wasn't Perriman in full pads yesterday and finish his full practice? I'm sure the coaches (and definitely he, himself) want to see what he can do.

I agree.  While obviously it remains to be seen if he will play this weekend, I wouldn't rule it out.  I think it would be great if they could even get a few plays for him with Flacco throwing it to him to see if they can start to form a connection

Please lord just let the football gods be kind to us this year.Atleast let us make it to the regular season with all of our starters. I just want to see perriman make one catch from Flacco in live action. The crowd will love it.

If anybody takes a cheap shot at joes knees I'm personally running on the feild to spit in the face of the culprit.
