[News] Timmy Jernigan Has Matured, Ready To Realize Potential

6 posts in this topic

Here's hoping Jernigan can push through to that next level. I loved his motor at times but some arrant miscues at times tempered my expectations. Sounds like the mental side of his game has caught up.

If this guy can perform the way that everyone thought he might from the start, we will be getting back to a Ravens Defense. If Timmy steps up and balls out next to BWILL, look out opposing offenses

He was mocked as a first rounder but he had a dilute (not dirty) urine test at the combine causing him to drop. Players in training drink a ton of water, same thing that people trying to beat a drug or PED test do. Since he has not failed a test in 3 years I tend to believe it was training related. So, as a ranked first rounder, expectations should be high for him and it is great he is finally meeting those expectations. Jerny, BWill, Darth Sizz, Doom, CJ, and Judon on the field at the same time will put some heat on the opposing QB. Pressure like that will make our corners look like Pro-Bowlers.

I hope he matures mentally and stops generating dumb penalties, often related to hitting someone late. Hard to like someone like that.

I may be in the minority here but I actually like the nastyness of Dlinemen. Sometimes opposing QBs just hold on to the ball waaay too long with absolutely no fear of getting their wins knocked out of them. In that case, you gotta put a licking on him just to keep him honest. The idea is to send a message early on to the QB (go through your first read and second then throw it away or you will feel it if you move on to your third)

That said, there's a fine line between nasty, dirty, and stupid. 1- don't intend to injure (going low or landing on a QB) that's dirty 2- don't take 2 steps and lunge after the throw is off 3- know when to be nasty (first and 10 from their own 20 in the first quarter is nasty) vs (3rd and 10 on our 40 in the 4th quarter is just dumb)

i don't think Jernigan is dirty or dumb. It's just a matter of a young inexperienced guy trying to be nast and getting frustrated at the wrong times. I hope he's learned from his mistakes and continues to grow as he has been for the past 2 years.
