As much as John Harbaugh would like to run the ball better, this is not Trestman blue print. He's a passing oriented guy. He coached in MTL for a few years where I was living at the time and he's a very good pass game coordinator but he's no OC in my mind. He could be a great OC for some teams who focus on the passing game but this is not the AFC North.

I've been saying this a few times when the Ravens hired him, he's a VERY VERY VERY bright man. Hard worker a bit like a mad scientist but he's pass first type of guy. I said it at the time, the Ravens should try to bring him to be the Passing Game coach and try to bring Kyle Shanahan to be the OC/Run game. Anyway maybe the run game will be better with better O-Line on the field right now its pretty ugly

Not sure I get the AFC North reference. It may have USED to be a run heavy division, but is far from that now. Even in the Kubiak offense in 2014, which is basically the exact style that Shanahan runs, we were still a 55/45 pass/run ratio.

Trestman's profile and resume would obviously grant him a better job than just being a passing game coach (there really isn't such a thing in the NFL that much these days), and Shanahan's offenses are very hit or miss. Tend to lean way too heavily towards a single, high quality receiver in an offense, and we don't really have that. He gets mixed reviews everywhere he goes.

Elam hasn't been out there and got some first team reps. I think he secured his roster spot

He also plays special teams

This has nothing to do with that penalty, just a question: Is levine a lock for the roster because of special teams, or could the Ravens cut Levine and keep Elam and Brooks?

They could, but you'd have to expect Elam/Brooks to be better in ST than him in order to make that choice, which seems unlikely.

Either one of those guys is basically the 4th or 5th safety, and those kinds of players better be very good at ST to make the roster, since that's going to be their primary role.

Yeah, I'm thinking he gets last safety. Levine bumps Brown out of last lb.

He's our backup SS. I don't think his job was ever really at risk.

Don't tell that to the Brooks fans

And he threw up the 25 with his fingers after the play in honor of Tray Walker.

I didn't catch that. That was fantastic of him.

Although Josh Johnson can run, he doesn't slide well.  He always seems to be going down head first.  Kind of bizarre for a running QB.

O there's no question coming into camp his job was at risk. We really don't have designated SS/FS in this type of defensive scheme. If Brooks had outplayed him, which it doesn't appear that he has, he very easily could have been cut. Good chance we carry no more than 5 safeties, and maybe only 4.

Heading into camp, most assume that Weddle, Webb and Lewis were the only locks in the safety battle. Shifting Levine to more of a hybrid role may have helped Elam a bit, but I think he's clearly ahead of Brooks, who I don't expect to make the team at this point.

Not so sure Lewis is a lock. He has been worse than both Elam and Brooks

Think the FO likes him, and if they are looking for more of a center-fielder type safety role, he's more experienced in that role than the other two.

Frankly, the idea of Brooks as a starter at this point is absolutely terrifying. I trust Lewis more, though not by a lot. Second half of the season, like most of the secondary, he really wasn't that bad. Wasn't good, but not horrendous.

I can't remember us ever having such a leaky defense in crunch time when Ray Lewis and Ed Reed were playing or maybe its just me...

For some reason if we can't prevent teams from coming back and beating us when we are playing defense, I don't see us being very successful.
