And? That doesn't mean they couldn't cut him if they wanted to.

There is a cost factor.  That's all I'm sayin.

Haven't we been using Davis as slot CB? I don't have this on TV ... relying on the radio.

We have some but I like Young and Price in the slot but then what about Wright and I'm liking Canady but don't see him as a slot guy

Josh Johnson is certainly doing well, but remember that he's 30 years old and has 10 previous stints with other teams.

If he's playing better than Mallett, what's your point?

I mean I'm no Ryan Mallett backer, but I'm perplexed as to how he's all of the sudden been passed by Josh Johnson on the depth chart by some, considering how respectable Mallett was in REAL games last season.

Gotta be honest I never was a Butler fan in his first few years. But man that kid showed a LOT of improvements. Consistency, better catch radius, better use of his hands. Engram doing some fine work. Will be hard to cut if he gets cut he will be a new team Aiken

no but they wont cut him because he played well enough against starters whereas josh johnson is pulling apart backup defensive players

I'm not suggesting he will be the backup quarterback, but he's showing moxie, poise, and delivering the ball very quickly.

I think that's the biggest thing to me- he's letting the ball go quickly and decisively.

Still doesn't mean he can't be cut though, especially with JJ throwing dimes and just executed a 2 minute drill pretty flawlessly ending with a TD.

JJ is definitely making this a real competition at backup QB, that is for sure!  I kind of like it, lol.

It's pretty known what he is at this point.  Definitely encouraged as it gives us options, but it's not like Mallett has done poorly in preseason action so far.  There always seems to be an overreaction to QB play in the preseason.

I love the word "moxie".

Actually, there's not. He doesn't have a guaranteed contract.

Has no cap hit this season if he doesn't make the team. Cap savings of $1.5M, excluding Rule of 51 adjustment.

We have depth..bascially our ''not so good'' is better than other teams ''not so good''

problem is that our ''Good'' isnt as good as other teams ''good''.

yeah but I see a lot of inconsistency. Throwing the ball off and the WRs balling him out. He's been under pressure on 1 plays : incomplete. This is vanilla defense where the Cover 1-Cover 2- Cover 4 and Cover 4 are easy to find out. Coaches wanna test their players in 1 on 1 and in some easy schemes to see them making plays or fail. I doubt J. Johnson would be as effective as Mallet playing a NFL caliber defense with pass rushers in his gut all game

Does playing better for two preseason games immediately warrant him getting the job over somebody who has proven to do better in real games?

I expect us to take this game over from here on out. Colts are horribly thin.

As do I

Respectable? More like highly erratic

I think Johnson is looking good so far.

Run D is performing. We're getting pressure up front - love the knockdowns on the ball.

Forgot to say last week, really am glad to see Pees down on the field. I do believe that him being in the booth played some part in our defensive issues. That said, seeing the same old weaknesses. Can't get off the field, giving up the big plays.

Yeah I mean, he looks good.  I'm not completely ruling him out of course, but he's been around long enough that he should be picking apart a third team defense.

It's a preseason game thread. :tmnt:

Sure, but then again, Joe Flacco is typically highly erratic.

He exceeded just about anybodies expectations last season when he took over the job. For me, he earned a full season as our backup. Certainly don't think a couple of preseason games where Josh was better as nearly enough of a reason to make a change there.
