[News] Could Steve Smith Or Ladarius Webb Be Punt Returner?

34 posts in this topic

If they give Reynolds the job, it'll last for one punt and one fumble. If Camp stays healthy, the job is his and Reynolds might not make the team. He was a late-round pick for a reason, guys. He's a player without a position.

Definitely think the job is Camp's if he stays healthy, unless Reynolds drastically improves over the next few weeks (which I doubt). “We have those guys in the bullpen, so to speak, but we’d like to find another returner,” Special Teams Coordinator Jerry Rosburg said. In other words, the Ravens don't want to have to use SSS or Webb, but will if they don't have another option. I definitely see Webb doing it before SSS as he has done it more recently and SSS is coming off a nasty achilles tear. I don't see the Ravens going outside the roster to pick up a return specialist...I think they really want to keep that roster spot for a viable WR/RB/TE, etc.

We already routinely use Webb, but only when we know the punt is going to go near or inside the 20 yard line and Webb is almost guaranteed to call for a fair catch. The team clearly trusts his ability to cleanly field the ball and that's the last place you need a muff. SSS, coming off that injury is going to be highly unlikely to be involved.

Camp - should he be able to stay healthy - is probably going to be the preferred choice. I think he has a much better chance of getting on the field on the offense than Reynolds and it is nice to have guys that can do more than just STs. I still worry a bit about Reynolds being sure handed enough. Turnovers on ST kill, so you really just can't have that happen.

Both are my thoughts exactly.

Please no, SSS is coming off a serious injury and i don't want him to get hurt from PR duty, and Webb keeping him healthy for a full season is going to be tough enough....Camp cuts will produce a valid PR if the guys we have don't step up.....Heck, give Jacoby a call....

Devin Hester is available.
