[News] Game Recap: Ravens 22, Panthers 19

13 posts in this topic

Takeaways after 1 preseason game...
A loaded RB group is a good problem. West,Dixon,Allen,Forsett.
QB pressures&Sacks, Z.Smith,Carter,Judon..
All making plays around the Qb or on the qb

Negatives, Linebackers not overly impressive..and not getting a chance to see K.Correa at ILBr with Mosley disappointing... leaving him at De/Olbr mostly dumb.
Let this guy play ILBr in preseason game 2..if he can be a Junior Seau type..from ILBr position you have 2franchise cornerstones in mosley/Correa for next decade.

But otherwise nothing really stuck out other then RBs&few pass rushers

I was concerned when I saw how easily the taller Panther receivers caught passes over our shorter defenders during their first drive. Will this be a trend when the regular season begins?

We got the best depths of RB's in the NFL. All of them are starting RB material. West and Dixon were great last night and boy Dixon can cut and make misses. Buck Allen was great too. Young passrushers was a good plus. Za'Darius Smith did very well including Carter so there were many positives.

The NFL is definitely a league that will look for weaknesses and if a team finds something that works against a certain team, you can bet other teams will try to copy that. Unless Wright can find a way to play taller then look for teams to try to go with size mismatches on him. I mean he was right there on the guy on two passes but the guys made the catch simply because they were taller than him and played taller on the play.

Stop chugging the kool aid buddy. I rather have 1 stud RB than 4 mediocre RBs like we seem to have. West's 2.8YPC and Allen's 1YPC yesterday was nothing to rave about. Our defence still has no punch. We still look like a 6-10 / 7-9 team at best.

I was a little puzzled by the penalty the Panthers got on the interception return for a TD that was called back for "illegal substitution on #1." There were no replays of what happened. Well, #1 is Cam Newton and I would think he of all people would know he's not going into the game, especially at such a weird time. Without seeing what happened or the reporters saying anything I was left wondering. Apparently this is what happened.

He celebrated and walked onto the field while doing so and the refs flagged him for it. Good for them! Ron Rivera apparently wasn't thrilled about it. Cam Newton, who I must admit I am not very fond of for the reason that I think he's just too arrogant and all about "me" and the whole running his mouth and acting like he's the best thing on Earth when things are going well for him, but then runs away and finally has the cat get his tongue (panthers ha ha) when he loses, had this to say about it.

Newton doesn't plan to make the same mistake when the games count.

"You live and you learn," he said. "...It happened. We all learned something as a team. We're moving forward."

No Cam, you're the one that got flagged for the stupid penalty, not your team. You did that. You. Period. So hopefully you learned something from that.

Considering West had two goal line carries, he didn't have much room to rack up his YPC stats.

KC looked pretty good on the outside, with a couple of QB hits and he really stood up the TE when they tried a sweep to his side. I was hoping to see more of Ochi...perhaps they are trying to hide him.

Just stahp... You clearly didn't watch the game. Allen was awful and didn't do much with his carries but West looked like Le'Veon Bell half of his carries.

What the heck are you talking about? We got good sets of Rb's. We do have one thing in common and that is the defense due to the lack of play in the secondary. I'll let them pass the first preseason game to get the rust off by playing football again let's hope they improve the second game.

2 things good 2 things bad.

* Defensive line continued to dominate. Early on we allowed some conversions on 4&1 but the panthers didn't have any runs over 10 yards, we crashed the backfield numerous times, and they couldn't run in the red zone.

* Pass-rush looked great. Carter, Correa, Smith, and Judon were constantly getting pressure on the QB

* Secondary still needs work. It was surprising to me to see Powers struggle, I thought he was the interception machine in camp and did good, but now there's reports that he hasn't been having a great camp and he played weak last night.

* O line needs to provide better running lanes. I think too many times West and Dixon had to rely on pure athleticism and will power to make something out of nothing. Pass block was good, but run blocking could've been better

I see all this talk about Ravens good running backs. That's nice but running backs become decoys when your secondary is giving up touchdowns and your playing from behind. 3rd place.
