[News] Michael Campanaro Misses Practices With 'Little Strains'

30 posts in this topic

Campanaro isn't going to make this team and it is a shame. He is a local talent and has the ability to be successful but his small frame doesn't allow the wear and tear of an NFL season. In time he will make it with someone and do well for a couple of years and we will wish we had him, but we need him now and he just can't get on the field. There are too many quality players on this team now to let one go to keep a spot for someone who just can't stay healthy over 3 full NFL seasons.

If Camp could stay healthy he could be one of the best slot receivers in the league. He has great hands and is very evasive.

I am so sick of seeing headline after headline about how this guy is now out or sidelined with some new injury. And I'm even more sick of Harbaugh talking about how hard he works and how frustrated he is. We are frustrated with him holding a roster spot hostage. IDC how good he is, what good is he if he is never on the field?

Even if he makes the team what is the realistic over/under for how long he will be healthy? Under 9-18. Over 10-2.

The thing is he is really really good, but....if he can stay on the field, it doesn't help anyone no matter how good he is. I hope he can come back strong and stay on the field, he could be a difference maker if he does. GO RAVENS! 25

I am just gonna toss this out there with nothing backing this up. Camp keeps getting all these muscle pulls and ligament strains and tendon pulls and strains and all this soft tissue stuff. I am hardly in shape and I keep fairly active in a lot of sports. I don't train all off season to play them. I only had one bad muscle pull my entire life and that was a quad strain grade 2. It was pretty nasty and took about a full month for me to be able to run around again with no lingering issues.

Now, when somebody takes *supplements* to work out and get bigger and stronger they do indeed get a little bigger and stronger. Sometimes these new bigger muscles are too much for the tendons and ligaments to support and they tend to break down. Extended and heavy use causes joints to break down as well.

Camp should be shadowed by a personal trainer everywhere he goes and when Camp isn't practicing he should be getting stretched out during all his off time. Camp sits down to dinner, trainer is there stretching out his calves. Camp goes to sleep, he's hooked up to a Pliates machine.

It is a shame because you see the talent there, but if you can't stay on the field you won't help anyone. This just opened the door wider for Reynolds who is coming on at just the right time.

I'm willing to bet that Camp plays a lot harder than you do. maybe that's his problem...he plays TOO hard.

This is a solid post. You impressed me:-) Camp looks fairly balanced as an athlete. I would like to view a full workout session he accomplishes and see how much he is being stretched. Also, I believe most football players believe it is key to have a very strong core. Your Pilates comment knocks that out of the park.

You can't make that statement because I actually get on the field and play, because Camp can't actually get on the field he can't possibly play harder than me. You have to actually play first.

He said he focused on bulking up for the NFL in his first year because he felt he would need to do that to endure the pounding on the NFL game. This whole off season he was working on flexibility, I think we was even doing Yoga and other things including Pilates. He thought he didn't focus on flexibility enough and that's why he kept pulling things.

Another thing that can cause tendon and cramp issues are electrolyte imbalances or lacking certain nutrition. Perhaps he should be meeting with a nutritionist if he already isn't. Get him on a Zinc, Magnesium, and Potassium IV.

If you've seen Camp in shorts you know why he can't stay healthy. A 5' 8" guy that weighs 170 lbs isn't going to make it in the NFL- just like a 6' 5" 195lb guy can't play C in the NBA no matter how much training he has. I dominated in High School football in Texas - but was out muscled & out-sized in college. I never had any kind of injuries until I hit college and it ended my football career. Had nothing to do with my PT - players were just too big.

Talented guy but just too small for the NFL

It is what it is. We all know he's talented, coach and the whole team knows he's talented, but the best ability is availability and if he's not on the field and is always hurt then the best place for him to be is the PS. We need guys who we can count on, and if we can't count on him then he can't be on the team.

No big surprise here. He lasted all of a week. Please cut him loose to another club who has the patience to deal with his 2 healthy weeks of the season and IR him. 3 years is too long to wait for a guy to come around to even be able to be active. Smitty, Butler or a TE can fill the slot routes fine.

He can't get through training camp. How can he get through a regular season game? He has never stayed healthy now going into the 3rd yr.

Harbaugh just came out and said he's not gonna hold WR's with "potential"......they are gonna have to make plays in the preseason.  You know what, other than Wallace and banged up Steve Smith all we have is potential.  Harbaugh can say the most quizzical things at times.

Whats that Italian tradition in the mafia when the Don kisses the guy that's gonna get whacked called?   Here's Harbs "kiss of death" to Canpanaro....“Michael Campanaro is one of my favorite guys,” Harbaugh said. “I love the guy because his work ethic is so outstanding and his attitude is just outstanding. Now he needs to get out there and play. He’s working in the training room to get himself back.”

Camp has one of the most awkward ways of moving and breaking off his path that I've ever seen.  He digs and pounds and doesn't make much headway.  He's got to go.

Don't know about the skills but his spot is too valuable. First name off the cut lips.

As long as camp makes it back in time to play in atleast 2 preseason games and stays healthy he will make the team. It will be so glaringly obvious how much better he is than Reynolds in preseason that they wont even be able to justify it. I'm calling it now- Reynolds muffs atleast 2 punts and camp fields everything cleanly. We'll try to stash Reynolds on the PS...he's just not ready and a position change of that caliber is just too diffiucult in that amount of time. When camp was on the feilld he was runnin circles around these guys and making Reynolds look like a chump. He was outperforming everybody at the slot position and the kr/PR position. Availability is a huge question though and will have to be something that Harbs will have to weigh.

Campanaro misses practice again today and they're not even wearing pads and helmets.  That tells me he's not playing in the 1st pre-season game.

I'm pretty positive he's making this team if he's healthy and makes it through preseason game 3.  Campanaro for 10 games is FAR more valuable than any other guy we have under him for 14 or 16 games.  We'll carry 6 (or 7) WR's for a reason, and probably another 1 or 2 on the PS and we'll almost never have more than 3 WR's on the field at once.

Damnit. I knew it was pretty much inevitable but in the back of my mind I just kept holding out hope he would get past it. He's got so much potential abd without him we have to rely on the rookie Reynolds to be the kick/punt returner and that scares me. Ofcourse theres clay who a lot of ppl seem to be forgetting but hard to justify a roster spot for just a return specialist. Campanaro just shows so much promise and I trust him with the ball to make smart decisions. I'm still holding on to a glimmer of hope he'll make it back for atleast 2 preseason games, lights it up and makes the roster. Which Ofcourse Is still risky if he goes down after a few  weeks and we lose another player off waivers. Maybe clay or Reynolds will end up with a phantom injury or something. Heck I don't know. Just glad I don't have to make these decisions.

Ummmm the one he's had for 2 years and have yet to stay healthy half of a season. Keep up with me now....

I like Campy and hopes he gets well soon! Maybe he's trying too hard to impress showing them what he brings to the table! Gotta protect our investments from themselves! Lol
