[News] Late For Work 8/8: Reaction To Ravens' First Official Depth Chart

34 posts in this topic

The only position I am not 100% sold on is Defensive end. Im not sure we have the Guy . Also, How has Zuttah looked in practice coming off an injury. Haven't heard much. Last year there was a lot of talk around Carl Davis. NO updates on him. DId he stack his offseason.

Carl Davis, what are you up to. Personally I wouldn't mind seeing him get some reps at end, though it looks like we don't have another legit back up NT. I just really hope Elam doesn't make this team let alone be a back up. Brooks is a better and cheaper option. I won't even get started on Elam's missed tackles, esp. at crucial times. A "box" safety that can't tackle....LOL! actually it's not funny at all. haha. Also hoping Aiken is the number 4/5 WR. Behind SSS, Wallace, and Perriman. And splitting time with Camp. Aiken is a good number 3 and great 4, but nothing else. Also hoping to see KC on the field about 100% of the time. Whether it's at MLB, OLB, or Rush End. Everyone is getting excited in a hurry, and I think it's warranted, but KC might be one of those defensive dogs we've been trying to draft for a while. If BWILL, Sizzlingdoom, Jimmy, Mosely, and Weddle can hold things down around him....we should be able to let KC off leash to just go get the ball or QB regardless of anything. Interesting mix of Veterans and young players on this team. Not much between. CANT WAIT!!!!!

SInce the first official depth chart was released, I figured I would post a prediction for 53 man roster, assuming everyone is healthy (even though I know that will never happen

QB (2)-Flacco, Mallett or Johnson...QB is pretty straightforward...I expect Mallett to be the backup, but you never know if Johnson can outplay him for the job

RB (4)-Forsett, Allen, Dixon, West...Forsett, Allen, and Dixon are pretty much locks and by all reports, West is playing too well to be left off

FB (1)-Juszczyk

TE (4)-Watson, Pitta, Gillmore, Williams--Just can't see us parting with any of these guys unless someone blows us away with a trade offer (which I don't see happening)

WR (7)-SSS, Aiken, Wallace, Moore, Campanaro, 2 out of 4 of Perriman, Butler, Reynolds, Matthews--So many options, I think we find a way to keep 7 (I put Perriman on the last group because until he is off PUP list, I assume he may start season there...no way he doesn't make roster)

OL (8)-Stanley, Urschel, Zuttah, Yanda, Wagner, Lewis, Jensen, Ducasse, Wesley, or Hurst---I think Ducasse, Wesley, and Hurst are fighting for the last spot (and maybe some other surprise guy)

DL-(7)-Jernigan, Williams, Guy, Urban, KLM, Davis, Henry--Battles here are for playing time.

LB (8)-Suggs, Dumerville, Mosley, Orr, Correa, Mclellan, ZSmith, Judon or Ochi---Can't s see us finding a way to keep Judon and Ochi on 53 man roster...I think one of them makes it and the other is practice squad bound if he clears waivers...I just can't see Arthur Brown beating these other guys out.

CB (5)-JSmith, Wright, Davis, Powers, Young--Don't see how we keep any other CBs if these 5 are healthy.

S (4)-Weddle, Webb, Levine, Brooks or Elam--I see the battle for the last spot being between Brooks and Elam (although Levine isn't a lock either)

LS-Cox

I actually think, and it's been mentioned that Weddle has had a huge impact on Elam. There has to be something there for them to give him the shots he has had. Not sayin, but just sayin..... I am very anxious to see how these guys stack up this year. Let's just get Perriman on the field and see what he's got. THAT bothers me more than the Matt Elam thing.

This Perriman thing is really getting frustrating. They can't possibly expect fans to believe that this guy will ever play for us let alone live up to 1st ROUND expectations.

I think he's trying to say all of the PUP guys EXCEPT for Perriman are at least listed on the depth chart.

Granted its probably an oversight, but yeah everyone is listed but Perriman.

Things I'm worried about:

Running game, since we lost Ray Rice we really haven't done anything to get a TRUE 1st string RB to compliment Flacco.

Unity of our offensive line, with the absence of Osemele

Defense fighting TOGETHER and attacking the football!!

Lets be honest Ravens fans. Our RB position is up in the air. We know that none of these RB's are capable of making huge plays on their own, on a consistent bases. With that being said this season can be a hit or miss for our running game.

That's what concerns me the most. We have a few "prity good" RBs but we can't call any one of them "really good". I wouldn't be surprised if Trestman just gives up on the runing game. Then we're doomed...

Pardon me? Suggs, Smith etc. are all on the chart... Perriman isn't.

I think our running backs are more than just "prity good". If our offensive line does its job our running backs will be GRRRRRRRREAT!

Dixon will become the every down back in a few years because he is dominant as a receiver out of the backfield. Buck Allen is also solid though. It's crazy that we have 3 young backs that can start (Allen, West, Dixon). I think we will let Forsett's contract expire this year and the young guys will take over. That will probably mean Dixon and Allen get more reps in the 2nd Half of the season.

The pre-season games will weed out the depth chart, it's when you go up against another team, is when you can tell if a player looks as good in games, as he does in practice going up against our own guys and knowing the plays....

Listed at the bottom of all of the depth charts.  May as well not even be considered at this point.  I agree with 757.  Probably a mistake, but nonetheless, not really a huge deal.

This list of players and the order that they appear will change drastically these next couple of weeks.

Well, I would think theres a difference being at the bottom of the depth chart (obviously for injury reasons) and being completely left off the chart...

Let's not get too deep into it though, it's obviously just a mistake.

There are going to be some really tough cuts at WR, TE, and/or RB. They usually keep 6 WRs, 3 TEs, and 3 RBs (not counting FB). But they have 6 standout WRs (Steve, Aiken, Wallace, Camp, Perriman, Chris Moore), 4 TEs (Watson, Pitta, Gillmore, Maxx), and 4 RBs (Forsett, West, Buck Allen, Dixon). Can't wait to see how it all plays out, literally.

Some of the TE options have helped make that easier on us because we don't have to decide on Nick Boyle until week 11 or Darren Waller until week 5. To me Boyle is expendable because you already have a very good blocker in Gillmore who can also catch. Waller is one I'd like to see us keep just because of the potential. He is eligible for the PS, not sure if he clears waivers though.

I bet to Permian it would be. ;)

What's amazing to me is that Kyle P. Barber expressed surprise that Ben Watson is ahead of Maxx Williams on the depth chart. Aren't 't these people sports journalists, and ought to know more than the average fan?

really though. Watson should be our most reliable and maybe best tight end this year

I hope it works to where all those players make the team.

no doubt. people that are listed first string right now like Albert McClellan might not even make the team

Love the KC pick and with Monroe retiring the Stanely pick looks excellent as of now. This fourth round though.......they all look like players that could start next year in my opinion. I don't know what's going to happen on the outside opposite Jimmy this year, but after getting a chance to show himself, I expect Tavon to man the slot all year. Wouldn't be surprised to see him return some kicks too. Henry might be what we though TimmyJ would be right away
