I was looking forward to just getting some pad popping itches scratched today. Nope. Oh well, I am glad they canceled it because I don't want to see people getting hurt because of a poorly conditioned field. So as I understand it the painted surfaces, primarily the giant shield logo is part of the field that "froze solid?"

And the Ravens are doing away with their huge shield on their new grass turf in favor of a smaller primary logo raven head instead. The endzones are relatively paint free as well. I thought there was some player safety stuff involved with that decision.

It does seem like the people in charge dropped the ball on this game. The date for the game has been set for a while now and for the field to be in such bad shape that the game was actually cancelled just shows that the ground crew / people in charge of the NFL hall of fame game did not do their job. This could have been avoided with a little preparation. A lot of people traveled a ways to see that game.

Clearly Harbs pushed those players too hard in practice, while Decosta was too incompetent to know the field was too bad to play on to begin with and Ozzie was too old and out of touch to draft players good enough to play on unsafe field conditions....oh wait this wasn't the Ravens. Ok

No serious just poking some fun, i'm in need of some real football and yes i consider preseason real. I love to see young guys fighting for their careers despite how sloppy the play gets.

On another note, does anyone else find it funny that on the day after Favre entered the HOF, fans were left in suspense of whether a game would be played or not? It seems like it was about 5 years straight of Will Favre play or Won't he. I think it's fitting that the HOF took on the same storyline.

I wonder what will happen the year Ray gets inducted.

Clearly a blackout..right? I mean what else could it be. Or maybe the other guys getting inducted will be so nervous that Ray has to give a per ceremony pump up speech. What time is it? Fame Time.

Time to ban Turf on all open or retractable roof stadiums

Whoever gave me negative point doest understand what artificial turf does to a game. Artificial turf causes injuries and messes the game up. Why you think the Ravens installed real grass now?

I heard that Brady and Belichick were seen exiting the stadium with heaters and some unidentifiable aerosol can that may or may not have hardened the paint.

Well, the colts were playing. This may not be too far from the truth.

Hate artificial turf. It was a real pain to play on, literally.

I went to a hall of fame game. It was the first year of the Texans v rookie Jeremy shockey giants. It really is pretty cool. Basically watching an nfl game at a small high school.

They are pulling turf for rec league teams and HS teams.  I was field level in Sept when my youngest son tried to play, FHS had put down the field that Summer, it smelled funny and was hotter then hades.  Edit to add this was 5 years ago.

I think what most people don't realize is there's a thick layer of concrete under it all. That hurts to get hit on and it's bad on the joints when you're running for extended periods of time.

Remember the old Steelers stadium? playing on that is like playing on the parking lot

Having walked on the field at M&T numerous times even sat on the field for movie night twice, I can assure you, that there is quite a bit of something between that concrete and the turf.

I'm sure there is, but grass is always a more forgiving surface.

I have been on the field-- side lines-- it's like sorta a sponge and the pellets fly which is pretty cool looking but the thoughts of inhaling the little pellets, or them getting in eyes, ears scrapes -- I don't like it.

I wonder in 20 years in the future we will find out these causes the creeping crud and your skin falls off and it causes cancer.  The underground pipes to keep the field from turning to a skating rink are there, if they can keep the grass grown between gates B and D after November on because the angle of the sum.

If the NFL tried to play the game, indeed there would have been a serious injury that would have cost the Colts or Packers dearly come regular season. Remember last year's HOF game? It was the HOF game last year that started the Kicking woes for the Steelers as they loss their starting Kicker who tore his ACL on a Kickoff and we saw how that plagued them early on in the season. So imagine how losing Luck, Rodgers, even Jordy Nelson who is coming back from a torn ACL and him getting re-injured due to the poor field conditions for the season?

Get some new field on it and have it ready for next year.

I think these exhibition games should be saved for post-season haha... maybe they'll make it a flag football game next year?

Another idea 2 Preseason games in Europe,Australia and in Japan. And 2 preseason games in the states 1 home 1 road

But Europe has got the International Series Games, because of that attendance at the pre-season games would be low. NFL didn#t really think when sending regular season games across

They had a preseason game in Sweden, and Minnesota was playing in it so the majority of fans rooted for the Vikings, of course.  And they've played once in Australia where the Aussie rules players thought they were wimps with all the padding and helmets.

In 2001 the Ravens and the Eagles had to cancel a preseason game at the Vet due to the bad turf.  Went to a Philies July 4th game and they let us on the field to watch the post game fireworks.  It felt like they put it on top of asphalt.

I've been pointing out that this is precisely how a majority of concussions occur. What many people don't realize is that it isn't always the initial hit that causes them. It is the rebound after your head bounces off the turf and then bangs down on it again. It is that abrupt change of direction that causes your brain to smash into one side of your skull and then the other. Your brain essentially floats in a cushion of fluid. For a fun little experiment take a bottle that you can fit ice cubes in. Put a few in there, fill about halfway with water. Jerk the bottle one way and then jerk it back in the opposite direction and listen to the carnage. This is your brain on turf.

With HOF game cancelled will NFL give fans their money back?

Yes, that was announced and reported yesterday.

I heard Josh Scobee kicked on that turf in last years Hall of Fame Game and messed up his quad muscles and he tried to kick though it, but he was cut after the game at Heinz Field against the Ravens, so in a way it was a cheap victory, but with all the injuries, I'll take whatever they give me.

NFL: Lawsuit planned by fans who missed HOF game

Several fans who traveled to Canton, Ohio, for the Hall of Fame game that was canceled on Sunday night because of poor field conditions are planning to sue the NFL and the hall.

Attorney Michael Avenatti, who represented ticket holders for the 2011 Super Bowl who wound up without seats in Dallas, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that no fewer than 20 individuals have approached him about a class-action lawsuit. He said his firm has fielded another 10 calls about seeking further reimbursements, including travel expenses.

Avenatti said his clients are from a variety of states, including Wisconsin and Indiana, who came to see the Packers play the Colts.

"We have been approached by no fewer than 20 individuals who traveled to the game to participate and be ready to enjoy the game," he said. "And unfortunately they did not have the opportunity to enjoy the game, and as a result lost a significant amount of money."
