Here's something that may improve your thinking about play calling: http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2015/09/jim_harbaughs_unique_play_call.html

That's a cute article but, this happens all the time in the NFL. Play calls may not involve the position coaches as much at the NFL level but, there is a lot of communication happening between the head coach, coordinator and asst. coach in the booth every play.

The Ravens are indeed 5-4, however, this thread is about the Ravens Projected Win-Loss Record 2016 - my record is 6-3 (see first entry).  The win over Pittsburgh was pivotal in marching to the playoffs.  A win against Dallas continues the Ravens' upward vector.

Apologies. Didn't know you were talking you're personal record.

Here's how I see our remaining schedule:

Vs. Browns--On paper we should dominate, but Browns always play us tough.  I have been concerned about this game since the beginning because of that and the fact that it is a short week after the physical battle with the Steelers.  However, I have to believe the Ravens gut out a close "ugly" win here  I give Ravens a 75% chance to win this one.

@ Cowboys--very tough game, but we match up well.  Their main strength is their running game and our strength is stopping the run.  I give the Ravens a 50% chance to win this one.

Vs. Bengals-Always a tough game-Cincy seems to have our number, but they are struggling this year.  I think this is a close game, but I give a slight edge to the Ravens being at home. I give the Ravens a 55% chance to win this one.

Vs. Dolphins--see comments about Cowboys game being a good matchup, with Dolphins not being as good all around.  Slight edge to the Ravens.  I give the Ravens a 60% chance to win this one.

@ Patriots--As much as I hate the Patriots, they clearly appear to be the best team in the NFL.  I would LOVE to see the upset, but I don't realistically see it.  I give the Ravens a 25% chance to win this one.

Vs. Eagles-Wentz has cooled off and Eagles are a far different team on road vs. at home.  We are very fortunate to draw them as a home game.  I think the Ravens pull this one out.  I give the Ravens a 65% chance to win this one.

@ Steelers--Tough battle and both teams are likely to be playing for their seasons.  I would LOVE a sweep of the Steelers, but I think the Steelers are going to find a way to will this win out at home.  I give the Ravens a 40% chance to win this one.

@ Bengals--Bengals have our number.  Hard to predict at this point because who know what each team is playing for at this point.  Are playoffs/division on the line for either or both of these teams.  Unfortunately, the Bengals have been our kryptonite,so I give them the edge in this one at home.  I give the Ravens a 40% chance to win this one.

So-as of now, we are 4-4.  I give us the edge in 4 of our games left, meaning 8-8.  Cowboys game is a 50/50 and I think some others are close.  I think 10-6 clearly wins the divsion and 9-7 gives us a shot.  It would be REALLY helpful if Ravens could win 3 of the 4 remaining division games, but that is never an easy task to go 5-1 in this division.

We all know this team plays all close games and has very little margin for error.  We have shown we are capable of winning (and losing) every game,so we are very hard to predict.  I can see this team going anywhere from 7-9 to 11-5, most likely 8-8 to 10-6, giving us fans plenty of heart attacks along the way as I expect to be right on the bubble of the playoffs and this division all the way to the very end.

OK-we took care of business vs. Cleveland (and Dallas helped us out by beating Steelers--and I'm really hoping the Giants can knock down Cincy tonight as well)  Sticking with my thoughts above for the remaining games.  If we win our remaining home games Vs. Bengals, Vs. Dolphins, and vs. Eagles), that now puts us at 8 wins.  Dallas I see as a 50/50 game.  Don't see us beating Patriots (at least not until January)  I have a gut feeling that we are going to need to win one of those final 2 games @ Steelers and @Bengals to win the division.  I can't see the Steelers finishing worse than 9-7 and I have a feeling we are going to need to go 5-1 in division to have shot a tiebreaker.  Also, not sleeping on Cincy either--they have had a brutal schedule so far, so they could make a late run as well.

Bottom line, we know this team is impossible to predict because they are capable of winning and losing every game.  I can realistically see the Ravens finishing anywhere from 7-9 to 10-6.  10-6 gives us a GREAT shot at the playoffs.  9-7 gives us an OK shot.

The Ravens are in hitting mode; if they correct the holding problem - they beat Dallas.

Game 10: 6-4. If there is such a thing as a "good loss" the Ravens earned it.  The Ravens played well on both sides of the football with just a few mental penalty errors by their center; otherwise, the Ravens looked good against the highest rated Tier-one team in the NFL.  Ravens will make adjustments moving forward.

Ravens have never been more hungry and ready to handle Cincinnati; make no mistake about it.  Smart game calling WILL result in a win.  A loss against Cincinnati is unacceptable at home by players, coaches, and fans.   Dead cats go to the dump!

Game 11: 6-5. The Ravens' blocked passes and team football against Bengals demonstrated they can muster.  No letting up on the gas pedal from here on out.  Ravens’ coaches must stop calling dead plays like handing off to the running back out of the shot-gun.

Well, I was wrong about the outcomes score wise/analysis wise, but 7-2 isn't bad in the slightest. Have us losing to Dallas but anything is possible.

I was right about this. Wrong about cinci. 8-3. Hell yeah

This is one play I don't understand why it hasn't been ripped out of the playbook.  It's awful.  Joe works best from under center anyways.

Yessssss. I freaking hate that shotgun draw. It has resulted in zero yards 80% of the time ..gained us fewer than 4 yards 5% of the time and actually lost us yards 15% of the time. It makes no sense how they keep going back to it after so much failure... Must be working in practice or something. Please just stop. The rb is unable to get any momentum and its just so predictable you can almost read joes posture right away. Scrap it!!

That's a bold move cotton. Let's see if it pays off

So I'll take a stab at it

Miami-W

Coming off of two bad losses. We're going to be pissed off, and will be going against a bad defense.

Here we go. I think we win. Even their rushing attack is good now, our run defense is great, I believe their oline is banged up, including Pouncey so we might be able to get interior pressure, and outside of the front 7 their defense isn't that good. I'm worried about Landry and Parker but I think we're the better team tbh. Even without Jimmy I think we pull out the win. Doesn't help that Tannehil isn't that good.

I hope Wallace GOES OFF against one of his former teams.

He certainly did the last time he played a former team:

Week 9 vs. Steelers:  4 receptions, 124 yards, including a 95 yard TD

I'll take 2 more of those please...this Sunday and on Christmas! :)

at this point its lookin like Parker will most likely not be suitin up. Hasn't practiced yet this week.

I'm thinking Wallace does go off-i smell a multiple td game from him... along with perriman adding in a big play or two.

The Ravens would be wise not to let Miami jump out to a fast start.  The Ravens' defense needs to tag Miami's quarterback early.  Expect quick passes and quick bursts from the Dolphins.  The Ravens are projected to win this game, but it will not be easy.  Expect the three-T's to go Ravens way: Turnovers, Touchdowns, and Tucker-Touches.  Joe will deliver the leather lunches on time.

When has a team ever had a game plan to let the team get off to a fast start?

Ravens are on track for a projected 9-7 season, but can they exceed expectations?  In the stock market world analysts use the term "Animal" for gut feeling.  My animal feeling is the Ravens eat fish today and continue to march forward to 9-7 record or possibly better season.  One game at a time - no need to borrow worry about next games.  Only the moments made on the gridiron today in front of a sellout home crowd matters.

That's a bold move cotton. Let's see if it pays off

So I'll take a stab at it

Buffalo-W. Their offense isn't that good, Tyrod isn't that good of a QB. They have a pretty meh oline. McCoy won't be able to run around. Sammy Watkins is an issue, but with a new improved defense I think we pull out a win. Even if Flacco is pressured to hell.

Cleveland-W. They're the Browns

Jacksonville-W. We're in for a slugfest here. Even on the road, we match up decently. They may have a great defense, but potentially so do we. Their WR group is deemed a problem, but we have a ton of speed that'll be hard to combat. But at the end of the day, I think we come out with W.

Oakland-L. Trap Game. Derek Carr is a great QB and now he's got a good oline, along with a very good WR and RB corps, and an unstoppable monster on defense named Mack. This is the first week we truly start overreacting and going "DAMN YOU RONNIE STANLEY" for getting beat by a monster that most cannot contain.

Redskins-W. We're at home, after a loss.. They're going to die.

Wrong

NYG-W. We cannot contain ODB. They've got a good dline with Harrison, JPP, and Hawkins. They've got good corners. But they do have a weakness. We got the TEs and they can't cover them. The TEs will kill them. Their oline is not as good, and neither is their running game. We pull out an upset here.

This was Changed to an L. Got it right

NYJ-L. Our interior gets destroyed here. Williams, Wilkerson, Richarson are licking their chops and they've got Revis to take out SSR. Flacco gets beaten up.

This was changed to a W. Got it wrong.

PIT-W.

We're coming off a loss, are at home, and it's against our arch rival. We blow them out in hilarious fashion. Especially since that defense is horrendous.

CLE-W. They're the Browns. They'll be the laughing stock of the NFL until proven otherwise.

Dallas-L

Trap game. Romo is a great QB with a good WR Corp and an oline that can make the best dline look bad. Defense will improve as by then they'll have some of their suspended players back.

Cinci-L

Tyler Eifert and AJ Green are both impossible to cover. They have an elite defense. Even at home, they're too much to handle.

Wrong

Miami-W

Coming off of two bad losses. We're going to be pissed off, and will be going against a bad defense.

NE- L

Slugfest. We almost always bring it to the Patriots. Gronk is the most unstoppable player in the league, but their are ways to get to Brady. Our defense has new talent and speed now. We have ways of providing interior pressure now and a much better secondary. But still they've got a good front 7 and Tom Brady with that unstoppable weapon. We meet again in the playoffs.

But the season could go either way.

12

9-3. I'll take that. I hope to be 9-4 next monday

There were other threads like this in the past and my prediction then was 10-6 before the season even started. It will be a tough go of it for the team to do this, but it is still possible. Even if they lose against NE and run the table afterward that would give them 10-6 and they still would win the division (because they'd win against Bengals and Steelers again).

Monday's game against the Patriots is not a must win - in fact it doesn't matter if the Ravens win or lose.  Next week's game at home will be a win against the Eagles, but the BIG game is Christmas late afternoon in Pittsburgh.  Typically a team takes one game at a time, and Ravens take this approach normally, but there is no sense in either team risking top players for a "it doesn't matter outcome" game.  Expect status quo football for most of the game and maybe a touchdown or two, but not much more.  In the end the home team wins, but in the playoffs, the Patriots will face a more intense Ravens team.  The Ravens' cage door will be unlocked for the playoffs and starting with the Pittsburgh game.

No. this game matters.

If we win this one and Pitt drops one against the Bills or Bengals then it's huge for us. All we'd have to do is win 1 of our final two games.

If we beat NE and Philly and the Steelers lose to both the Bills and Bengals then the Steelers game doesn't matter at all. Division already locked up.

When were in a tie for the division lead with only 4 games left, to say any game doesn't matter is absolutely ridiculous.

Assuming they pick Carson Wentz to start Pees is going to dial up the bltizes. The front 7 has a ton of talent, but outside the safeties the secondary doesn't really scare me.

Something is wrong with the upcoming Philadelphia game - can't put my finger on it, but the Eagles beat the Steelers and currently everyone is writing this game off as a win for the Ravens.  There is a bad vibe in the air.  This might be the end of the season for the Ravens, but I hope not.

Feeling much better about the Ravens now and see a wholesome NFL home victory by the players, coaches, and fans.  Ravens take care of business today - the playoff march continues in full spirit!
