Ravens "fan Site" Stealing Pictures

11 posts in this topic

Anyone who has posted Baltimore Ravens related pictures to their Flickr account may want to take note of this.

I was informed by the owner of the "Baltimore Ravens" group over on Flickr that there is a website called baltimoreravensfansite.com that is taking pictures that Flickr users have posted, and are posting it on their own site with no accreditation. To top it off, the site is filled with ads as well, which I am sure that many folks who posted their pictures to Flickr do not want. From what we are thinking, the creator of the site is using a script that is just grabbing all pictures tagged "Baltimore Ravens" or similar and posting it to his site. There's all sorts of other sports teams listed as well, so we're not the only victims.

So if you're a flickr user and have posted pictures to your flickr account or the Baltimore Ravens group there, you might want to check and see if your pictures have been stolen as well. I am going through and taking down the URL of my pictures, and also posting the following comment under each one, feel free to use it

This photo has been downloaded from Flickr and posted without permission of, or accreditation to the photographer. Please remove it immediately. It is marked as
i get my pics from google haha
Who doesn't ;)

My issue though is if someone wants to use my pics, they need to ask me first, and if I give permission, they need to credit me.

Oh, great. I've got over 800 photos from the Ravens @ Rams game in the preseason in that Flickr group.

I release mine under the creative commons attribution license, so if it's up there, I just ask for credit. Ideally, I'd like a linkback to my personal site for SEO reasons, but eh, whatchagonnado?

Here are my favorite photos from that preseason game: Ravens @ Rams - St. Louis, Missouri
I use Kodak gallery and have over 1000 for this year, if they are Password protected can they grab them?
If I were to take an educated guess, I would say no because I assume they can only see them if they have the password. I don't know if they are hitting the Kodak galleries, but they are definitely hitting Flickr users.

However, I would do a few searches of the site to be sure. It looks like they're using the same title you give the picture. So far I have found two of mine, and the photo title was copied as well.

This is what I get for letting anyone be able to see my photos I guess, despite the big fat copyright marker below it.

This is why I never put pictures of my kids on the internet. You really have to be careful about those kind of things!
