Who are you looking for in PS week 1?

65 posts in this topic

All of us have our players we are personally excited to see in preseason and we will be dead focused on them in the game.

Besides the obvious Ronnie stanley, I will be laser focused on kamalei correa, I've been hyping him maybe more than anyone on these boards, id like to be proven right :)

After that, ill have my eye on ZDS, buck allen, maxx, and aiken. Both guys who we need to make a big time leap this year and guys who have given me no reason to think they won't.

I am looking forward to see if Mike Wallace and Chris Moore can establish a vertical passing attack with Flacco. I want to see if Terrance West can continue his strong play. I want to see how Stanley handles the Panthers pass rush.

On defense I want see who amongst ZDS, Correa, Zudon and Ochi can provide some pass rush. I want to see  Eric Weddle be a leader in our defensive backfield.

Honestly I am anxious to see the Ravens play football, each and every one of them.

Really excited to see Zadarius. I think he's gonna have a breakout year and continue where he left off at the end of last year.

Correa obviously... sounds like hes been playing fast, physical and getting to the ball all TC. Interested to see how he looks at ILB in a live game situation, and also see what he has as a pass rusher coming off the edge. Also, want to see him in coverage. He's been making plays and it would be awesome to have an ILB that can effectively run with slot receivers, TEs and backs down the seam.

Willie Henry intrigues me. Havent heard much about him at all, but i feel like hes a guy thats going to shine more in the games than he does at practice. Want to see that burst and strength off the line. Along the same lines I want to see Jernigan and Urban. We have the talent to really generate pressure from the interior - looking forward to seeing if all the offseason hype translates to the field.

With Suggs and Doom not playing, itll be cool to see a lot of Ochi and Judon. They should get tons of reps, so we'll get a healthy dose of these guys. If they can manufacture pressure itll go a long way to getting our pass rush back on track. Even if only for a couple snaps per game, if we've got a 5-6 man rotation that can all bring the heat, we can be really dangerous and just wear teams down.

I picked Onwuasor early on as my favorite UDFA to make the team, so i want to see if the physicality and athleticism translates at the NFL level. Would be nice to have a Kam Chancellor type of roaming enforcer. Not saying i expect or could even imagine him playing to that level... just having a guy that fits a similar role.

The secondary in general. We prob wont see much of it, but interested to see how Weddle/Webb work together on the back end. Want to see what the hype around Sheldon Price is and if we've found a legit 3rd guy on the outside. Also want to see Young, Canady and Davis to see if any of the 3 can be real contributors this year.

And finally - the weapons. Even if only briefly i want to see Joe and his guys on the same page. I want to see a healthy Camp getting open across the middle and working between zones. I want to see Pitta make a play. The developing chemistry between Flacco and Wallace. Lets see if Maxx has taken the next step to force himself to steal some opportunities from the other guys. Lets see if Reynolds has even a distant chance at making this roster (early reports arent good). And lets see if when the lights come on, does West still look the best.

Also really excited that we should see a healthy dose of Dixon in the back field. Forsett probably wont play much. Buck/West will get a ton of carries with the 2nd unit most likely... and I imagine Dixon will be the work horse of the 3rd unit.

Yea.... so basically everything.

I won't go for a specific player, but I want to see a playmaker on either side of the ball.  Someone that has the ball in their hands and is a threat to take it to the house every single time, or someone on the other side of the ball that can pick it off at any moment and instill fear in the opposing QB.  We've been missing a game changer for a couple of years now, and I hope someone steps up and takes that role for us.  We need some explosion.

My moneys on Wallace/Camp and Powers/Webb.

But since its PS game 1, we probably wont see a ton of them. So in terms of the guys we'll see a lot of I think Reynolds is actually going to show up as a receiver on game day and make a bunch of plays in space, and i think Tavon Young is going to open some eyes. He just seems like one of those guys that really turns it on once the lights get their brightest. And, hes reportedly been playing well in practice as is - so if he can take it to another level in the games, hes going to really impress.

Another guy - Sheldon Price - i dont think hes going to be a big interception guy, but i think hes going to turn some heads for those who know what to look for. Nothing too flashy, but he looked really really solid to me. Always in good position, playing good technique. I think he's just going to completely erase 2nd/3rd string receivers. He may not show up much on TV bc i dont think backup or 3rd QBs are going to want to test him.

Mostly all of the rookies and free agent additions.  We pretty much already know what the other guys offer.

Rookies: Really interested in seeing what Tavon Young and Correa can do.  They're both getting A LOT of good press.

Vets: Interested in seeing how Weddle helps the secondary and if Wallace can be an offensive threat.

One thing to consider, Flacco may not even play during the pre-season. We'll probably have to wait until the 1st game before we get an

idea what our offense truly looks like.

Curious to see how many picks Mallett throws, because it doesn't sound like camp has been to kind to him so far.

You're far too kind with your description.  From what I've read, he's basically stinking up the joint.

I imagine we'll play flacco like the eagles played Bradford last year.

Take a decent amount of snaps but get him out of there If things get rough

One thing is for sure, the drastic difference of our offense being healthy/injured is insane.  We could field SSR, Wallace, BP, Aiken, and Camp which could be a dangerous WR group...pretty excited for that.

The guy I want to see the most is Onwuasor, no doubt. Basically I'll put m attention on the LB corp, see how Correa, Mosley and Orr fare.

I've always been a ZDS supporter, so I'll watch a little bit but I'll be surprised if he doesn't perform.

On offense I'll watch basically everything, from Stanley to 5, from the RBs to the WRs.

I like the fact that we play the Panthers. Should be a good test for our o-line (mostly watching Ron). On the other hand, I want to see if our d-line can apply any pressure on their o-line as well. On defense, I'm paying close attention to Shareece Wright. I'm interested to see which Shareece will we get: the one @ SF or the one in the games afterwards.

I will be looking at Brent Urban, Carl Davis and Willie Henry. I want to see them make some plays because I feel like they can all step up and start if needed, but I'd like to see some early proof of that.

I am looking for players not named Elvis Dumervil and Terrell Suggs to show any flashes of pass rush ability. I am also looking to see which players can consistently make plays. The team needs to find a consistent player like Steve Smith to make plays or this team is in a world of hurt. I am also seeing if the offense can effectively run the ball with a whole new left side of the offensive line.

I'm curious about Trestmans playcalling. The Ravens offense put up alot of yards passing, but was also prone to turnovers and scored little. Now the offense has more speed and Trestman has more experience with the playbook. I'm really curious how this will play out.

I'm hoping to see consistency between starters and 2nd and 3rd teams. Our second tier players did not fare well last preseason and our lack of talented depth compared to all four opponents was apparent early and proved an indicator.

How we run block, how effective we are stopping the run.

In advance, I ask a one day ban on the first person who says, " preseason

Doesn't matter".

Also, since I've begun...it annoys me to hear local radio types poo poo the preseason. I don't get where anyone who covers the team would find it uninteresting.

Bronson Kaufusi

Ronnie Stanley or Kamalei Correa.

I need to see personally how Stanley is doing.

I'm also looking forward to watching the most explosive and versatile player we've drafted since ???

Will Breshad be back? If so, him.

This is my answer too.
Followed by Wallace.  If we can stretch the field this season, it dramatically increases our odds of marching down the field.

this is another one, we have a 3 man front that COULD be so good that we dont even need much edge rush, but then again theyre all unprovens so they could also be a total dud across the board. but say we field a 3-4 pass rush package, davis could be an ideal rushing NT being powerful enough to man up on the interior but slim enough to shoot gaps, henry and jernigan are similarly explosive and powerful interior rushers, and urban has quick feet and great length, it could be really solid, best potential we've had there in a while, but it needs to be legit.

a ton of talk about how pissed the team is about 5-11, I'll be looking that fire and passion despite a lot of vets missing.

As for a player to watch i'll be looking at Price. Jimmy sat out the last portion of practice today and Price took over for him. The Ravens clearly like him and he's performed well thus far, now i wanna see it translate to game action. I expect him to get a ton of reps.

I'll also be watching the Return battle. It's not as important as it used to be but having a dynamic guy to set your offense up with decent position after a punt is huge.

Ya know....

I am kinda excited to watch Matt Elam too. He is fighting for not only his job, but his career. I expect him to go all in, as they say.

Yeah man, this group has me on the edge of my seat. It feels like it could be among the best 3 man fronts I've ever seen, but as they say the proof is in the pudding, but the pudding hasn't been put out yet so we shall see

As far as the best 3 man fronts I can remember are Trevor pryce kelly Gregg and haloti ngata when pryce first got here. Also Kiesel, Casey Hampton and Aaron smith was another really good one. I think Brandon Williams is a better nose than Hampton or Gregg so it comes down to Jernigan and whoever claims that other spot. I'm hoping its urban and he can stay healthy

I know I was a bit silly with my first post here, but allow me to answer realistically.

There are some front runners for sure I will be watching, namely those guys that got selected up in the top half of our draft. Unfortunately one of them is probably not going to suit up for us this year most likely.

I've got a pretty good idea of what our starters should be capable of, so now I am looking at depth. I am looking at those 2nd and 3rd string guys to see who is really pushing it and making a good case for them that they deserve the spot over somebody else.

CBS: Tavon Young and Maurice Canaday: There are a lot of names on the roster at this position and the 1,2, and 3 spots seem to be spoken for with J. Smith, S. Wright, and J. Powers. I can see the Ravens going easily with 6 corners and we already have names like Will Davis and Kyle Arrington on the roster. I could see a scenario where Arrington is dropped because he'd really not cost us much and I can also see Young making the PS.

S: Back ups. Elam probably has one designated to him and Brooks probably has the other if both are healthy, but I would really like to see if some other guys that are experimenting in at dime LB'er can make an impact. Levine will probably make it, but what about Onwuasor?

WR: Reynolds: I know he's a long shot and he's having a rough camp, but I want to see that shiftiness on the field and see if he's as dangerous in space as the Ravens think he might be. If I see that I can overlook the dropsies and all for now and hope he gets a year to hone his craft on the PS. Obviously Moore when he's healthy. And to some extent Mike Wallace, can he actually be a versatile and go to target?

TE: Pitta, Waller, Brown: I think I already know what to expect from Gillmore, Maxx, and Watson. I want to see how well Pitta holds up and how well he's moving around. If he's even close to anything like he was prior to the hip injuries, wow. I want to see just how well Brown and Waller look as converted TE's. Can either of them actually block at all? Are they really size/speed mismatches? I know it will be a tough numbers game, but I think the Ravens will do all they can to keep Waller on the roster.

OL: I want to see what Alex Lewis looks like in game time. I want to see what some of these guys that were UDFA's look like that have been getting some hype: Matt Skura, Anthony Fabiano, and yeah, Nembot to an extent. I know he's supposed to be really raw, but does he have "it?" Does Urschel REALLY take the starting LG job, or does Jensen outplay him?

DL: Urban, KLM, Henry, Pierce, Judon, Z.Smith...all of them. Who's got the juice? The starting spots are spoken for, but who will compete to get an extensive amount of back up reps?

LB: Ochi, Onwuasor, and how does Correa look as a rusher and possible MLB? Does Arthur Brown even show up on the radar?

RB: Just how good does West look? How about Kenneth Dixon?

So yeah, not one real specific thing, just looking at all of the guys getting hype to see who might actually be real.

Guy deserves the other spot unless somebody really comes to take it away from him. All he does is make plays.

I'll give you Kelly Gregg, he was a plucky over-achiever who really played well for us. I don't think he's better than Hampton yet.

Starters: Lawrence Guy, Brandon Williams, Timmy Jernigan.

I have a couple players I'll be watching. Za'Darius Smith first and foremost. He will play a big part in determining whether this defense will be elite or just average. He's my prediction for breakout player this year so he will have my attention for the most part.

Second player is Tavon Young. His college gametape reminds me so much of a young healthy Lardarius Webb. And with all the praises he's getting in camp, he's another one to watch.

Last one I'll be paying attention to the most is Patrick Onwuasor. I don't know why but I have a good feeling about him at LB. Ravens have lacked athleticism for so long. Plus he plays with a mean streak which is something else the Ravens have lacked for a while.

"Peanut" is listed at 6'0'' and 217lbs. which would make him a very light LB. Still he could be versatile enough to play some back up safety, dime LB, and of course special teams.
