You are correct in a sense, but broken bones can vary in how they actually broke. A clean break is the best case you can hope for in all situations, or next best is a compound fracture which is multiple clean breaks, then there is the fragmented fractures where the bone has broken in many small pieces kinda like glass shattering. I know about this topic since my brother broke his leg when he was younger and the doctor was knowledgeable and shared the info.

All that being said, depending on the type of break he sustained and add in the fact the location is the ankle and requires a lot of functional strength to hold up to the rigors of NFL life, a season gone is not so far fetched. The other half is that he will most likely be healed before the seasons end but then you gotten figure time in to re-strengthen the muscle since he won't be using them for several months. That really does not leave much room for getting back for some game time.

The smart approach is to say do not rush back and potentially risk re-injury, as they have so far indicated. There is no pressing need for him to be rushing back either as two others who dealt with similar issues will now be in the running for those reps, Urban and Lewis-Moore who have show play making ability, plus they still have Guy who has been a very solid and dependable player.

You're right, hopefully it is a clean break. Would be great if he could at least get some reps in this year.

I agree its better to break a bone (with area and critical condition considered) than a ligament tear. I played basketball when I had Brown hair and the sprain/ligament damage is a very difficult recovery. The one important factor is he will have the sports specialist doctors.

smh, c'mon injury gods go bug the steelers, bengals and brady

I think they did. It was just our turn. I hope he recovers quickly. The Ravens will be fine.

Yeah...The other teams should get their share! It is amazing how durable Brady is. Due to the short dump passes and his O line he succeeds......

This is really a bad break for the Ravens. With Suggs and Dumervil out with injuries, Kaufusi had a chance to get plenty of reps before they return. Missing a rookie season will set him back. Let's just hope that he is ready for next season. Meanwhile, it's next man up.

It was the curse of Ngata. Look what number Kaufusi is wearing.

Guys, really? I didn't seriously mean this. Look at the OP I was referring too. It was asking about Voodoo. Curse...I wasn't trying to make fun of Kaufusi's injury. I think it is terrible. Obviously the team had high expectations of him drafting him in the third round. I wasn't so convinced he'd make an impact this season, but then again I am a bit skeptical of any rookie until I see them actually on the field playing real games. It just seemed the comments for him were that he wasn't strong enough and he was rigid, especially in the lower body. Being how long and tall he is, leverage would be key and that all starts with your foundation. I am certain he would have made the team and he would have gotten reps. Now he loses all that vital experience. All he can do now is heal up and then work out like a warrior in the gym and come back stronger for next season. Hate seeing guys go down on any team.

This could be a blessing in disguise. He's got two guys ahead of him and might not even of made the 53 man roster. Now he's safely tucked away instead of on the practice squad and no team can snatch him up. He'll get healthy, spend time learning the system and be back next year. Looking forward to seeing what he can do next season.

You honestly think somebody can break their ankle and be back playing within a few months?

Yes. Three months is all it takes to fully heal unless you have other issues. But I'm in favor of sitting him out the entire year. He's not a need and this protects him from being claimed if he wound up on the practice squad.

I'm not worried we have a bunch of DE/OLB on the team, and honestly i think OCHI and JUDON are both better anyway. But regardless, I hope he heals well and gets healthy soon.

Ravens seem to have too many season ending injuries before the season actually starts. Another injury to the line and suddenly it's thin. I hope we don't continue to have injuries.

Yeah if it's a typical ancle break then the cast comes off in 3-5 weeks and 2-4 weeks of rehab after that your good to go. This gives me an indication that he's going under the knife and maybe some screws or rods will be inserted. I hope I'm wrong.

Just a thought, but since it's mostly rookies who seem to be getting the most banged up from our workouts and training; that maybe we should tweak it a bit for them. You know, not expect so much, bring em into the physical curriculum more slowly. Again, just a thought.

Just a reminder of how Draftek panned the pick of Kaufusi.   "Ozzie keeps chopping away at needs while finding incredible value. We have previously pegged Kaufusi as a potential target in Rd2, and now he falls to Baltimore at #70. He's raw, but he is a hard working, exceedingly talented force playing in the opponent's backfield. It has been some time since resources were devoted to improving the youth of the Baltimore edge, but the 2016 Draft has proven fruitful already with Correa-Kaufusi bound to terrorize opposing quarterbacks for years to come. Grade: A".  His loss will be someone else's gain.  I still would rather having him in there getting game experience.  If we stash him on the injured reserve, then we will save a slot for him to return to when he's healed and up to game speed.

Willie Henry, you're up. Urban or Guy might start game 1 but that'll change real quick. Henry is a beast as is only going to get better and better. What a fourth round!

Honestly, who starts on the D-Line is not much of a concern these days.  They get rotated out so much, they all get a good amount of snaps.  Like I always told my kids, if you're in at the end of a close game, that's what really matters.
