The cornerback said he’s still knocking some rust off of his surgically-repaired foot in training camp, but feels like he can run, jump and cut again. Wide receiver Kamar Aiken notices the difference.

Jimmy is by far the most important player on this D. Please take your time back and play it safe whenever you can. It's no secret that Jimmy is a fragile player and it's absolutely no secret that his injury is one of the most unpredictable ones. Please play it safe. We would like to have Jimmy for week one. But more importantly, we have no chance without Jimmy come playoffs.

I agree with this. Jimmy Smith will be the key for the improvement of the secondary. Sure it will be nice to have improved safety play, but if your #1 corner is being toasted routinely, that's not going to help. Jimmy isn't fragile. He's been pretty healthy up until this lisfranc. And that is one of the most brutal injuries to recover from. If you don't know what it is, please look it up. Then you will understand what is so tough about it. It has ended guys' careers in the past.

If Jimmy is Healthy, and Suggs is even 90%, we have a top 5 D this year. Easy. So many beautiful pieces on D. What an addition Weddle was. If ravens fans aren't familiar with his play and ability, they will be after week 1. Interested to see what Webby does at FS

Your right, maybe labeling Jimmy as fragile is a bit harsh but the reality is that Jimmy only played a full season twice. He's battled all kinds of injuries and I commend him for grinding through them and playing if he can. I'm no doctor, but I do know enough about lisfranc injuries. They are horrible and unpredictable to say the least. That's why I was holding my breath all of last year and hope that he plays it safe.

On another note. I feel comfortable with Webb and Weddle back there. Brooks, Lewis, and Elam are perhaps the best backups in the league and one of them should emerge this year in case of Webb going down. We'll be fine, but if Jimmy isn't 100 percent then it's gonna be a loooong year. Look at the list of #1 WRs were facing this year.

I don't even see Jimmy as the most important player in the secondary.  I like Jimmy really I do, but when it comes to the actual execution of the secondary, I think Weddle's role is more important than Jimmy's. Weddle is making the calls to get Jimmy and others in position to make plays.

Weddle and Mosley are obviously vital parts to this D because theyll make all the calls and adjustments. But if Jimmy doesn't show up then there are no adjustments to make. If we can't slow down the opponents #1 WR then we're just gonna play 2 deep safeties all game every game. If Jimmy shows up then we can see some magic. Diguised blitzes and overloads on the line. safeties in the box or meaning up vs TEs. None of this is possible if you have to double team the best receiver on a regular basis.

We face jGordon, ajGreen, a.Brown twice. S.Watkins, A.Cooper, Hurns, o.Beckham, b. Marshall, d.jackson, d.bryant. I think we need our shutdown corner to step up.

If Jimmy doesn't show up, put someone in that can do the job.  From the reports I've read from camp so far, Jimmy is struggling even though he's completely healthy. I don't know if it's mental, physical or a combo of both.  But if there's someone out playing him in camp/pre-season at some point you're gonna have to sit Jimmy down until he returns to form.

I wish it was that simple. I just listed 13 of the best WRs in the NFL that the Ravens will face this upcoming season. They can go for 10 catches 150 yards and 2 TDs against just about any corner. Those 13 guys would put Revis in a pickle every once in a while. That's why we need J Smith to play like a top 10 CB. It's not fair to expect S.Wright, W.Davis, or Piwers to regularly hold these guys to under 100 yards.

It may not be fair, but that's what they're paid to do if called on.
