Seahawks could cut WR Sidney Rice. Why didn't Ravens wait until they cut him and then grab him

Cause he's been retired for like 3 years?

I knew this Trent Richardson project was a waste.. he didn't make it on two other teams, why would he have made it on our team... I think him getting a look only had to do with Oz and his connection to Bama/ Saban

"The Ravens took a shot on the former Alabama star this offseason after he dropped about 20 pounds and re-committed himself to the game. But Richardson was unable to carve out a spot for himself among a crowded group of running backs, and the Ravens have decided to stick with young players like fourth-round pick Kenneth Dixon, Terrance West, Buck Allen and Lorenzo Taliaferro. They also boast former Pro Bowler Justin Forsett."

I would tend to think it is hard to carve out a spot for yourself when you are injured. I mean, you might as well say the same about Taliafero. He's failing to carve out a spot for himself because he can't get on the field.

I think it was an attempt to reach out to a guy that may have needed a little hope. Did you read the comments he made after the Ravens gave him a shot? Guy was depressed. I just hope he can keep things in perspective. He worked very hard to get into shape and the Ravens would have given him a shot to earn a spot on this team.

It wasn't a waste to take on a complete no risk kick of the tires on a former first round pick. If there is a chance you think the guy can help you, you kick the tires. Teams do this all the time.

oh well. good luck to you. really surprised rice has not been given a shot by anyone yet.

No shock at all to me. PR nightmare, coming off a terrible season, is 29 going on 30, would cost more than a rookie.

The Ravens also waived RB Terrence MaGee. Chuck Jacobs has been with the organization before and is a known quantity. Don't think he's more than a camp body at this point.

I knew he wasn't going to make the team. The problem though is how come Ozzie and Harbaugh didn't? The only beneficial thing in this move is from a humanitarian standpoint - giving him an opportunity to try and jump start his career.

Sometimes you take a shot when there's low risk involved. You talk like signing him hurt us somehow. A potentially high talent at a low price. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. It didn't work out, so now we cut him loose. We have lost nothing.

if one of our guys gets hurt, i could see him coming back, just right now they feel he won;t be ready for a few weeks, and we can't afford to lose that time on a player who isn't ready....never say never....

Need to cut perriman too

I was going to write the exact same thing. Perriman needs to go. Hasn't seen an NFL field since being drafted in the first round 2 years ago

If everyone thought like you, Justin Forsett would never have been on the team

I agree. Even though Rice and his wife were young and toxic together(she spat/he punched) the people don't see it that way. All they see is a bad guy and that would be a PR nightmare. Especially after the "return your Ray Rice jersey" day they had.

What's wrong with giving it a try? It didn't work out but sometimes you have to take the chance, sometimes they pay off.

I said it when the Ravens drafted them, wasted number one picks, Elam and Perriman. The first a so called safety who cant cover anyone and always seems lost as well as misses tackles. Who the hell was watching this guy and decided he was a number one pick? Perriman, aka The Ghost. Takes up a roster spot, never plays, always mysteriously injured. All they talk about is his speed. Speed isn't worth a crap is you can't catch a football. No wonder the Ravens sank to new lows last year. With draft picks like these, someone should be fired.

Glad some of you fans aren't our GM...the guy hasn't even been on our squad for two years and you just want to cut him? Crazy talk, man...do you know how many productive, if not star players started out their careers with injuries? Obviously not, or you would realize these things happen, and you have to roll with it instead of panicking and jumping ship. Lighten up and give the guy a chance before beating him down.
