[News] Ravens Changing M&T Bank Stadium Field Paint

36 posts in this topic

This is a really bad change. Horrible. I'd be willing to bet that a good majority of ravens fans like the shield the best. I'm OK with the endzones but it feels bland, a shield on the Baltimore side and a bird on the ravens side would look pretty epic.

I think they could have had the shield at mid-field and Baltimore at one end and Ravens with the Ravens logo on both sides of it. The shield is very unique. And this would incorporate every thing.

Guys - don't over-think it.  Shield in the middle, purple endzones with the Raven's Head Logo and the "Baltimore Ravens" wordmark.

Please...

Why are we going away from the shield? That is a more symbolic and 'prominent representation' of the 'proud heritage' of Baltimore than literally just the word "Baltimore".

Don't like it.

I think I would have liked to see the shield in some capacity, maybe bookending the "RAVENS" endzone? I don't miss the shield at midfield. The reason why is that it took up a huge amount of real estate and it got messed up way too easily during the games. Since the Ravens wear a lot of white on their jerseys now you would see the white getting stained with all kinds of the various paints of the shield.

I think the reason for the change is that; unlike turf, grass sod that gets chewed up is not so easily matched up in color when repaired, especially in winter. So the idea was to reduce the bright colors....now, I just pulled that from my back side, but it sounded good huh? lol, don't worry the field will look awesome for the AFC championship game this year :) GO RAVENS!

GMTA, that was my first thought as well was the sod, and limiting the area to a smaller sod zone that would obviously need more attention/repair due to its constant use.  It would make the turn around much faster too and possibly less expensive than having to repair a larger zone of sod.

That said it is a very simple, clean look...very classic!   :baltimore-ravens:

Maybe changing the field look helps change the mojo too, lol.  Go Ravens!   :18_1_301:

I would go as far to say as it may be a tiny bit related to player safety as well. Paint is a bit more slick than grass, especially when it gets wet. So I think you and the person you replied to and I were all sort of on the same page with our comments.

It is going to slow the game down a bit, natural grass plays slower than turf. Another thing you can do with natural grass is kind of tailor it to your needs. The Orioles used to do a lot of manipulation on their infield by letting the grass grow tall when Cal Ripken was the SS so that the field would play slower.

If you have a team that is blessed with a lot of speed, let the grass grow a bit longer and slow them down a bit. Think they won't be that drastic with stuff? This is football, and anything that can help you get an edge, you do.

Baltimore is a little long to fit across the endzone. It would look much nicer if both sides said Ravens.

They could spell it out like my Grandma used to pronounce it and can still be heard in some of the towns dialects, "Balmer." There ya go, length issue solved.

I miss my Grandma, she was an ornery thing she was. Balmer O's hun, maryland blue crabs, and a Natty Boh' and my grandma was a happy camper. She loved her Colts too. She never got to see us get a new team.

Even though you just pulled it out, it makes more sense than anything I could reason - thanks

My first thought after reading that post was b-more but anyway as others had said, the shield was nice but a simplistic design would be much easier to maintain

Glad to see "Baltimore" back on the field. I liked the shield though. Always like to see that Maryland flag incorporated. Its not bad though, its clean. I just hope it doesn't look chewed up come winter, like Pittsburgh.

I mean I love the look of our previous look. Written Ravens with the head Logo in both end zones and then our classic secondary Shield logo I loved in the middle of our field. Sad to see them simplify it. I mean I think most fans would agree with me that the shield was a better way to show that the Baltimore heritage and looked great. I mean one of the greatest memories was when Ray Lewis did his winning formation dance on or near the Baltimore and Maryland flag shield logo! Great memory. Bring the shield Back I say.

Bring the Shield back to mid-field!

Reminds me of the "new" coke debacle... Why change something classic and great for the sake of change?

The shield was great...Too bad.

The shield is way better... More symbolic than the Raven logo. I almost hope they revamp up the Raven logo because it has always been kind of bland. The shield was everything on M&T's field.

Our prayers, and emails, have been answered. The bird head is on the field, anybody that thinks the shield is cool, ain't. That was the dumbest logo in the league. Period.
