The single biggest difference with this years roster, at least so far, is the increase in depth at most positions. This bodes well when you consider opposing teams can't just rely on taking one or two guys out of the game plan to be effective. Success is going to come by committee and there are very few schemes this personnel group cannot run with the current talent. I would really love to see Trestman find ways to get all his weapons involved in games early on to get everyone in sync and keep defenses guessing. Especially establishing the run game. The bootleg game and being able to confidently close out tight games in the 4th quarter are critical element to being contender. At halftime adjust to exploit the kinks in the armor. Defensively, the Ravens should be able to be more aggressive with a retooled and deeper secondary. The injection of youth at pass rushing positions will only benefit vets like Suggs and Doom and keep them fresh deep into the season.

This Onwuasor guy apparenty understands perfectly how an UDFA should attack the camp - his only opportunity to make it into the NFL :)

I know camp drops don't necessarily mean thing for receivers and TE's since Torrey was reported to drop an awful lot of catchable passes during his rookie camp - and then we all remeber his first three "real" NFL catches in St. Louis - and what followed...

Well... if we could only survive the camp and pre-season - and then the season - without a lot of key injuries... that would be nice.

There is having depth and then there is having effective depth. If either Dumervil or Suggs goes down again it is questionable that we have guys to step in again. We don't know what Correa will really bring yet, Z. Smith showed some flashes and we can only hope he can improve. the front three really didn't do a whole lot as far as sacks go. Williams is a run stuffer and he's gotten close to some sacks, Lawrence Guy was actually the leader in sacks on the DL and I think he had 4.5? Canty didn't play the whole season, Carl Davis didn't show a lot, and Jernigan needs to step it up. Jernigan has been making really dumb penalties on third and longs to extend drives for the opposition. The improvement in the secondary I think is legitimate and hinges on the health of Jimmy Smith and whether or not S. Wright is for real. If those two things are checkmarks, then the secondary should be a lot better than it was, but the main thing that will help is a good pass rush.

We've got some pieces on offense if they all stay healthy. There are some question marks here as well though. Don't know what you have in Perriman or if he will even play. I don't like to doubt Steve Smith Sr., but he's coming back from an awful lot at an advanced age. Mike Wallace admits he lost a step, so has he lost more than that, or was it a bad match up with weaker armed QB's that was the issue? The O-Line is also a legitimate question with Stanley at LT and possibly Urschel at LG. Not saying it is hopeless, but we do have some questions. If these players are all solid, then yes, this is a good team on paper. There is talent there. I've stated in other threads if this team is relatively healthy at key positions I think they are a 10-6 team that can make the playoffs.

There's a reason why teams don't generally try a FG of 60+ yards and that is usually because you first need the kicker with the leg to do it. The second big reason is that you need a bit more of a runway to get the momentum for the kick. The protection breaks down and you're more apt to get a blocked kick because you also have to keep the trajectory low.
